Title: Paul Newman has lung cancer

Just heard Paul Newman has lung cancer.  That is a real shame for a unique actor.  Hope it is curable.

I always liked most of his movies. But I don't think he crossed the rubicon into really great acting, even though Cool Hand Luke was close.

Was in the papers over here at the weekend. Word is that its not curable, unfortunately.

Officially they're still denying it, though - he said he was recently being treated for ..hair loss and athlete's foot....  :whydontcha

One of the best actors of our time.  Pull through Paul, you are one of the best.

I think there's only really been three great actors in my lifetime.

Daniel Day Lewis - his role in The Name of the Father really tore me up. Probablty the most talented actor that's ever existed.

Edward G Robinson - underrated because his films are so old. But boy cculd he deliver a line when he had to.

Michael Caine- If only for his role in ZULU. .....imo one o the top 10 films ever made.

Actors and actresses don't generally impress me, but Paul Newman is out of this world great.  Some of the finest performances ever.  Even if he was a Hollywood commie who hated us for our freedoms because of Birkenstocks with cumbayah and all the high gas prices just because of Clinton!  Fuck that!  Fuck!  Goddamit!

"what we've got here....is failure to communicate."

That's really too bad. Cancer is such a lousy way to die. :(

Bummer, this is the first time I've heard that. I'm not a particularly big movie buff. But thier has always been a certain kind of "cool" about Paul Newman and his acting....Having lost my mother and  stepfather to lung cancer,I'm all too aware of how nasty it is. Best wishes Paul.

I don't think cancer can even survive in Keiths body!

Too Tough for Cancer!

Heard the rumor and read that his Publicist did not confirm or deny.
What strikes me is that Paul Newman is 83 years old!!!! Our heroes are getting old. Guess I am too.

Great Actor.
Great Humanitarian (millions of dollars to charity from Newman's Own without much fanfare)

And when do you see a Hollywood couple (Paul/Joanne Woodward) who survive 50 years of marriage?

Best wishes, Mr Newman.

LJ.

He's 80. The disease travels slowly at that age. I wish him the best in his battle.

I've always loved Paul's movies....and his loving, 50 year marriage---a true testament in turbulent Hollywood! I do hope that the treatment he is receiving gives him many more years of life....

An incredible talent.  Here he is in what many critics call the finest moment ever captured on film in American cinematic history.

:wtf2

Yeah, and that Brando was a real clown, wasn't he?

Newman, unlike so many stars and actors nowadays, can act as if he doesn't give a shit for an Academy Award (and he doesn't; ha). Robert Duvall is a good comparison; stars who don't act, they just "are there", on the screen. One thing, though, Newman got better and better with time, more and more natural, just "breathing" on the screen (like Sean Connery told Christian Slater, as an advice for perfoming a role on film: "just breathe").

This recent event is a shame. Hud has cancer. Hope he beats it.

Holden:  Yes, cancer is pretty bad way to go.  A friend of mine has terminal
cancer now.  It's very sad indeed.  My prayers are with you Paul
             and your family.
