Title: ******* Two rare videos from an 1969 italian movie
Post by Jeep on Jun 11th, 2008 at 8:44am
First to all, thanks to my buddy Franck to find all these rarities !
(I've got the whole movie, but these two extracts are on a new japanese DVDr bootleg).

These two clips come from an italian movie "Umano non Umano", directed by Mario Schifano, showed at the Venezia Festival in 1969, but only released in 1971.

Very experimental movie  !
The parts with the Glimmer Twins were shot in Roma in 1969.
Anita Pallenberg was a co-producer of the movie.

First video, a Jagger lipsynch on Street Fighting Man, with a nice pink suit:

Second video, Keith tries to play on a Moog synthetizer, very experimental too ! :

Hey Jeep, these are both fantastic videos, thanks!

I think this explains to me better than any argument why most people seem to think rock 'n' roll is something for younger people - just look at them! They weren't afraid to experiment and try things out... I wonder what the Glimmers would think if they were asked to comment on these videos today.   :areyoufuckingserious

I'm a little confused as to how I didn't know of this movie or footage. You think you have a period covered and then something like this turns up! Keith and the synth is odd, but the Jagger bit is a little odd to. The 1960's, eh?

Great videos Jeep, I left a message there. Is the music in the Keith video real or added as a background music?

It's hard to answer... :-?
This is the original sound from the movie, with the heartbeats at the beginning and the end.
Is there a Moog specialist on this board ?

BTW, the clip with Mick lipsynching on SFM risks to be censored by ABKCO I guess...

Going by ABKCOs behaviour to VoodooChile and his silent movie of Hendrix/Stones 1969; your Keith video will also be removed by those sleazeballs

I guess this should be early 70 in Italy, where Mick , Anita and Keith spent vacations after the 69 American tour.

Well it says it was shown at the 1969 Venice Film Festival, so it would probably have been shot in late 1968/early 1969 by my reckoning, because :

1) Mick and Keith wrote 'Midnight Rambler' on holiday in Positano, Italy - and the first recordings of that song date from February 1969.

2) Marianne left Jagger for Schifano during the Stones '69 American tour - they were reconciled around Christmas 1969. I'd be surprised if Jagger would have had much to do with Schifano after that.

3) In early 1969 "Street Fighting Man" was the lead cut from the Stones recently released album. Would have made sense for them to be doing some promotional work around that song at that time - not a year later, by which time they had released 'Let It Bleed'.

4) Jagger used a moog synthesizer when recording the music for Kenneth Anger's film "Invocation of My Demon Brother" in November 1968

Gazza, you are right, the film seems to have been release in 1969, so no question about it.

1) don't get the connection here with Midnight Rambler.
2) I dont think that Mick care about it, he was occupied fucking Anita   :o
3) the song was really hot and Schifano want it for sure in his movie as well  ;)
4) Keith took the opurtunite when Mick was out and hope nobody was looking..  ;D

I hope someday the Stones will release a large collection that they create themselves like the Beatles Anthology that way everyone will get to see gems like these. Someday..... :howefun

1) Just trying to provide a timeline as to when Mick and Keith were in Italy
2) LOL. True, although the 'Performance' movie was shot in mid 1968. Marianne has also mentioned that Mick was ready to physically fight Schifano for her. Maybe his ego was hurt more than anything.
3) Who would blame him.
4) Probably!

Me too, but the two problems I would see would be that :

a) after all the fuss we've made over it down the years , would it live up to the hype?

and

b) would you trust them to make a good job of it, bearing in mind the slapdash, half arsed way theyve approached some projects in recent years? I dont think Mick cares about it too much and would lose interest pretty quickly. The only Stone past or present capable of overseeing such a venture is Bill Wyman.

Bill Wyman is the perfect candidate for this roll , yes indeed, he proved it with his own book, it'is really good.

I would love to see more "70-71" Stones around, the 71 UK tour is really a big gap apart from Coventry, Leeds and Marquee Club.
