Title: Biggest Bang? Post by amyjared on Jun 6th, 2008 at 12:27pm
Sorry if this has been already discussed, but I tried to find it and couldn't. I've been seeing this 4 dvd set on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/4-DVD-BOX-SET-THE-ROLLING-STONES-BIGGEST-BANG-Concert_W0QQitemZ320258251818QQihZ011QQcategoryZ617QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem And wondering if anyone has it, has seen it, knows whether it's worth it or not. Thanks for any help! |

It's worth $9.99-20 to watch once or twice. The whole thing was poorly put together and got nowhere near the amount of TV time as Four Flicks for me.

Even $20 is a steal. It cost about four times that amount in Europe. $20 for about 8-9 hours of the Stones on DVD? What is there to debate? Not as great as Four Flicks because it doesnt work as well as a concept, but Keith's performance of "Learning the Game" from Austin is worth the price of the package on it's own. |

the way things are going these days 10 dollars might not be such a piss in the bucket, but i say go ahead and make the investment even if it is just for the 5 block argintena set. this i like the best.
i come and go with it these days, but it is never far away. yes, go for it....buy it. :wtf2 |

Same as the concept behind many of the shows on the tour when they would play small, medium and large sized shows in the same city, which is what they did in about a dozen cities. Three different types of shows - theatre (Paris), arena (new York) and stadium (London) - with three setlists of considerable variety. the ABB tour basically had the same type of show regardless of the size of venue - so there isnt really the variety to justify four discs. Its a good DVD and the price of the package in North America is pretty much for nothing, but of the two Four Flicks is superior. For me, its the most essential product the Stones have released in the last quarter century. |

the theater paris show is impossible to watch under any circumstances. the camera just wizzes around way to much. the clarity of the picture throughout is oustanding |

I way prefer Biggest bang. Flicks is ok. the Paris & MSG shows are ok, but i find myself utterly bored to death by the Twickenham show. That stage was easily their dullest stadium set up.
I cant recall, but i think biggest bang cost about $50 here. I do know 4 flicks was around $80, which was still a ok deal for what you got, but i got it cheaper anyway. |

Biggest Bang is awesome, especially the Rio show. Even though the set list was hit heavy the band was really on fire. Part of me wishes Scorsese had filmed that show instead.

It's amazing how much we do get to see these days. How many years did we go w/o getting to see live performances except on grainy bootlegs?

Four Flicks I think the stadium show is excellently filmed and edited. It's tough to watch Paris, I wish we had the option for just 1 camera at the rear of the venue on the full stage but I don't usually look at the TV when I watch that. At least the overdubs synch up properly unlike Austin.
And the Biggest Bang documentary totally blows. It has some good footage here and there like Argentina but it plays like a bad late night infomercial. |

Theres probably a reason for that. Ronnie was so off his face they probably wanted to keep his on-screen time to the bare minimum. |

Plenty of eyewitnesses reported it at the time (Angiegirl and Mathijs definitely did from memory) to the extent where Jagger quite visibly went over to the sound guys after a few songs and ordered them to turn him down in the mix. Maybe he sobered up as things progressed - he's certainly not on camera that much in the released DVD as he would be expected to be. Perhaps there was a bit of "post production" done. |

i'm presuming his pre-tour drying out period(as alluded to on the Tip Of The Tongue doc) had ended by this time then :areyoufuckingserious |
