It's curious that the stats show "Great Britain" instead of "United Kingdom" so I'm not sure if Northern Ireland is included HERE as Great Britain, as far as I know the Great Britain is England, Wales and Scotland while the United Kingdom is the Great Britain plus Northern Ireland.

It is also confusing that we have and entry as "European Country" with the European Union flag while at the same time we have many countries from Europe that are also part of the European Union

Great Britain again apart from Europe?? :Youmakeagrownmancrylikejoey

Of course Northern Ireland is included in Great Britain and is part of Europe.
The Republic of Ireland is part of Europe but is independant from the UK since declared on 24th April 1916 .

1. a monarchy in northwestern Europe occupying most of the British Isles; divided into England and Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland
(synonym) United Kingdom, UK, GB, Britain, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Someone's been reading wikipedia...LOL...the Free State (still part of the Empire) didnt come into being until after the Anglo-Irish treaty in December 1921, and only became a full republic in its own right in 1949. Irish politicians were still being elected to Westminster up to and including 1918 before they set up their own breakaway Irish parliament in early 1919.

So Great Britain and United Kingdom is the same?

Great Britain: England, Scotland and Wales
United Kingdom: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

BTW, I never mentioned Ireland as parte of either GB or UK

Yeah sure - thats what wikipedia is very good for.... lol.
would you've known by heart the date when independence was declared?
it took a long long while to get it settled though - didn't want to quote the whole wiki.

Youre correct on the 'declaration' which was made at the start of the Easter Rising (24/4/16) but obviously that was a unilateral declaration and wasnt recognised officially. I wouldnt have known the date "by heart" (although as I've a uni degree in history and politics, I'd obviously have known it was on Easter Monday) , but then again I dont exactly 'commemorate' it myself!

You're right on the whole thing taking a while to get settled..theres a lot of declarations and key dates around that time and many of them not recognised as 'official' by everyone. Fascinating period of history, though.

Joey....I was in Dublin last week and a taxi driver told me the best pub to go to in town was the Brazen Head! When I burst out laughing he asked me did I know it or something - I told him that I didnt but I had a mate who goes there all the time, but when I told him that it was a pub in Nebraska, he looked at me as if I was retarded!
