There are not 3 good tracks on the album.

I think "Had It with you" is just great, an unappreciated gem.  I also like Dirty Work a lot.

You can just feel the tension that was in the studio throughout the album.   :thatwassmart :keithpunky

Sleep Tonight
One Hit (To the Body)

After that, I'm struggling to find a VERY good song. Theres a few good ones, a couple that are OK and a couple of steaming toids.... ("Hold Back" is a contender for the most unlistenable song theyve ever put out)

At a push, I'd say "Fight" (only the crappy drumming brings it down) and "Too Rude".

DW is one of the few Stones albums where the outtakes are often better. the production on the released album is crappier as well.

Man, I don't even have Dirty Work, never bought it, never will... I don't even want to download it for free...
I like One Hit though, but the rest of it??  :pukey
Dirty Work makes ABB sound like a masterpiece.

Too Rude by Keith on "Live at Hollywood Paladium" is wonderful too. But it has nothing to do with Dirty Work.

(Edit : on a positive note I got to say that Dirty Work is still better than "Goddess in the doorway"...) :blankfriggingstare1

We must be running out of things to talk about!

With that said, Harlem Shuffle is my favorite on the album. It was my introduction to the band.

In second place is the Chuck Berry-ish Had It With You.

3rd place is One Hit to the Body.  I have no idea why Jimmy Page was on it, in the studio, or anywhere near a Stones session given Keith's dislike for Led Zeppelin, but I guess you can like someone as a person and hate everything they release as an artist.

It was a long slumber for us (so it seemed) after this came out.  Three entire years with no new Stones albums went by until Steel Wheels in 89.

Dirty Work haters can :kissmyass .

Marko is right on, the three best songs on Dirty Work are the three best post-Tattoo You Stones songs.  He even has them right, if not in the right order.

Had It
Dirty Work
One Hit

Masterpieces all.  Great lyrics, brutal guitars, evil stanking decayed rotten vibe on a Sticky level of evil stank.

after that, merely great:

Sleep Tonight
Harlem Shuffle
Hold Back

merely really damn good:

Fight
Too Rude

good songs fucked by 80s production and arrangements:

Winning Ugly
Back to Zero

too sad and touching to be believed:

Key to the Highway

obligatory genius outtake that should have been a b-side:

Strictly Memphis

WHAT A GREAT GODDAMN RECORD!

Had it with you should be performed on stage I tell you that!
:blankfriggingstare1

IMHO there are good ideas on the record but the production ruins the party.
The 80's clunckers (back to zero sounds like a keyboard demo,Winning Ugly is their all time worst song) are very embarrasing too.
Sleep tonight is another All About You.
:funny

I like the reggae Keef, the idea of raging guitars (which may be Keef answer to Mick's wedding with pop music??), Dirty Work and One Hit.

To be decent, I won 't talke about the Stones look and Micks fantastic mullet :aimama

On the Dirty Work song, the guitar solo where Keith n' Ronnie mesh, just for only 2 or 3 seconds, is the best since a long time.

I forget the seconds where it is but it's like a whole different album w/ those 3 seconds.

Durring that time it seems the band found the weave, but then lost it.

Still great album.

Dirty Work
Fight
Had IWY.

Winning Ugly

I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people think. It's better than Voodoo Lounge or Bridges To Babylon imho. [smiley=embarassed.gif]

My favourite Stones record of all time...this is where it all began for me...I still love it to death, always have, and always will like it, love it, yes I do...my first Stones experience at age 15...never looked back...it rocks like a mother...even the 12" singles, esp. One Hit London Mix and and Winning Ugly NY Mix...shows just how much Ron Wood could contribute in terms of songwriting, creating riffs, and otherwise everywhere else...I could write 50-page essays on this stuff.

Harlem Shuffle
Sleep Tonight

Dirty Work is a GREAT FUCKING ALBUM. Everything but Jagger's two jerk-off tunes (Back to Zero, Winning Ugly) are excellent. I'm not even kidding.

If I have to choose, I'll go with One Hit, Dirty Work, and... hmm... I'll go with Hold Back. But that excludes Fight, Had It With You, Sleep Tonight, and Stu's boogie. Which is unfortunate.

Let somebody do the dirty work
Find some fucker, find some jerk
AAAAAWWWWGGGGHHHHH, do it AAAAWWWWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL for FREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

I listened to the album yesterday in honor of this thread and it was just relentless, start to finish.  Moved like a runaway train.  Ten songs about hate and nastiness and rudeness and things falling to pieces, ending with two amazing "I hate you" songs from Mick to Keith and Keith to Mick.   And then a dead guy plays the blues for a dead band.  Fucking wow.  It is true that it's probably the ugliest record these ugly, ugly people ever recorded, but, to paraphrase an old saying, it's so ugly it's beautiful.  The greatest band breakup record this side of Mott the Hoople's Brain Capers, which it sorta resembles.

When you shake hands you got to hold it so long

There's a dead cat on the line

I can pretty much guarantee that i wont play this ever again.

Mainly, because i only have the LP version and no longer have a turntable.

If some one gave me a gold plated ultra rare autographed cd delivered by Brooke Burke i still would not play it.

In this order:

Had it with You
Too Rude
Sleep Tonight

I give "Had it" priority as an original.  "Too Rude" was fantastic there and on the first Keith European tour.

"Sleep Tonight is a wee bit overproduced, but in a style familiar from the dense production on the "It's Only R'n'R" album.  I like the echo, but I can imagine it stripped down, at the end of side 2 of "Talk is Cheap."  In the "All About You" slot.

Winning Ugly is a hideous song, like the worst of Mick's solo originals, and would sound awful on a Mick album as well.

True testament to "Had it with You":  I deejayed a large outdoor party/band concert in the summer just after Dirty Work came out.  When I played "Had it," some Punk kids came up to my rig and asked me what Stones album it was from.  They really liked it, and were...oddly disappointed when I said, "Their new one."  You interpret.  Only old guys came up to compliment me on odd singles from The Kinks Kronikles, like "She's Got Everything."

I have played HIWY "out" with similar result.  People seem to think you've 'tricked' them into liking a later Stones cut or something.  It really fucks w/their view of the universe.  Happily, no one can even see you pulling out the LP since it is conveniently housed on the flip side of Harlem Shuffle.
