RS Bootleg from Hamberg Germany, ABB tour. right now MISS YOU, and the crowd is clapping their hands and yelling. Captures the live feeling since there is a slight echo in the recording.

First line MICK sings is 'Yeah I've been waiting in the hall, waiting for your call and the phone rings'. He goofed up the lyrics! The first line is supposed to be "I've been holding out so long, I been sleeping all alone'
AHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE THESE LITTLE INCONSISTANCIES! It makes me smile and say I LOVE THESE GUYS! They can pull it off any fvcking way they play the songs!

Also got a package from Throw Rag a few weeks ago with an advance CD of their new CD "Second Place" (out June 10) and their first CD "Tee Tot." I didn't pay much attention because obviously I already had it. Then I saw it on a release schedule for a different label and looked a little closer and noticed it has 2 bonus tracks so that CD just got a little better.

The garage bands of the 60's, "Nuggets" box set, you don't hear music like this anymore, The  psychedelic late 60's, Mouse's "A Public Execution" is a direct steal on Dylan, if fact he imitates his singing, & the music sounds like a Dylan song I can't put my finger on.

I am so totally hooked on this weird Stonesy Dutch album from 1970 called RAINMAN, put together principally by Frank Nuyens from the great Q65.

It's sorta like the Kinks-meets-Beggar's Banquet (without the lyrical genius of either).  Gorgeous laid back rock and roll with a psychey edge.

Highly recommended to Stones-Heads.  And heads in general.

on the "head" tip, I also just discovered how great parts of the Eire Apparent record are.  They were Irish, I think, and Hendrix produced their only LP.  The first three tracks absolutely rule.

And speaking of Curtis Mayfield, I am hooked on the Impressions' album Ridin' High at the moment.  Gorgeous mid 60s soul.

Mayfield/Impressions fans are also directed to the Van Dykes' Tellin' it Like It Is, a swell Texas album that cops the Impressions' sound to a t,with great songs to match.

Currently on the turntable:  Muddy Waters:  Just to be with you

to bad big brown lost, but it was a good move on the jockeys part to ease off on him knowing he wasn't going to win.  i enjoyed the race all the same

I don't know about the next Mick Jagger. But yeah he had a pretty good voice for a 9yr old. Future American Idol maybe....Bummer Big Brown lost. He didn't look good from the start. At least he didn't break a leg though. So maybe they will run him in the Travers and Breeders Cup.....That's The Way it ought to be. It's also what I'm listening to at the moment.

I recently bought this disc at one of those discount stores which has been in my car player ever since. cost $2.00. a live set of Jerry Lee Lewis called "Killer Contry". there is an official JLL release with that name but this is not it. Apart from the track list there is no information on the sleeve.

It's a little hard to date but  one lyrical reference in "39 and Holding" puts it in the 80's (as do the electric piano sounds)anyway it is awesome - You win Again , Cold Cold Heart, Mexicali Rose, i can't stop loving you, what made milwaukee famous  - his authority and command is incredible/insurmountable/unquestionable. a loveable arrogance that has a killer streak (that is for real - he shoots recalcitrant bass players they say) lurking just beneath the surface

funny how he continually name checks himself throughout ("poor ol' Jerry Lee") as well as putting the names of the writers in to the words of their songs Don Gibson , Gene Autrey

anyway its great to find a treasure like this as I had never heard much of this type of his stuff, all the more so  to get it for next to nothing.

I will have to check You Tube for that session he did with keith

Sad Gratefuldeadmusic. Yes, it actually exists. Listen to American Beauty.

When the woman you love who said she'd stay with you forever tells you that she is indeed going to join the Navy for four years... well, my only other alternative is Neil Young's "Doom Trilogy," and that just might make me kill myself at this point.

Me, I've been mellow of late.  Discovered Liege & Leaf by Fairport Convention (voted by What the Folk magazine as the greatest folk album ever), and Static in the Attic, mellow Stones outs from the late 70s.  Contains an interesting half-done version of Fool To Cry I like better than the final.  Fewer words.

What a band!  I recently got the entire discography and finally started listening to them, in order.  The first three albums were stunningly awesome and, yes, Eddie Hazel's solo on 'Maggot Brain' is perhaps the best in all of rock.  I listened to "America Eats Its Young" last night and will probably play it the rest of the weekend before moving on to the fifth album.  However, as I type this, I have "Chinese Democracy" going again.  Axl Rose and George Clinton should do an album together!

Weird, I kind of like the new one a little better so far.  If his live show includes nuggets like Sway I might have to get out to the 930 show on 3/1.  Speakin' of the pedal steel, how's your Fender playin'?

I love playin my baby. Its got such a sweet, sweet sound. But you have to watch out or it'll play you. Its serious intonation nation!

Neil Young week will be next week for me. Going to see him in Dublin Sunday and then London next weekend for the double header with bruce on successive days.

Do you have the rehearsal DVD of that Palais Royale show where they're going through the songs in the empty club? Great stuff.

I got your pm a while back by the way. I havent forgotten about it, but I'm a bit too busy at the minute and it'll be a couple of weeks before I get time to do anything.

Doing a bit of household work so taking a break from mastering the vast archive of recordings.

Ministry's Land Of Rape And Honey was my wake up music.

Been listening to the re-issue of the first Circus Of Power album about twice a day.

Got the limited edition Melanie C at the Hard Rock DVD yesterday but if I knew she was THAT pregnant when doing the show I might have passed.

Kelli Ali's Rocking Horse has been the 2nd disc in the CD player but it's way too weird and mellow to listen to anytime except right before bed so hearing the first notes are enough to get up and put something else in. I don't know where the case is so it's staying there. I really want to hear Psychic Cat but I think I left it at my mom's.

Jack White is such a blessing for my old rock and roll ass.

Not only can the guy play drums but more importantly ,to me anyway, he knows how to record drums.

If there is a God or for that matter a Satan this guy would produce the next Stones record.

Has he ever done anything remotely shitty?

If there is a God or for that matter a Satan this guy would produce the next Stones record.

Has he ever done anything remotely shitty?

I saw their London gig (with Ade) at the Forum three weeks ago. Even though I was well back from the stage, my head throbbed for hours afterwards it was so fucking loud. They were pretty good although the sound could have been better.

i didn't care too much for his collaboration with Alicia Keys on the recent James Bond theme, but really
i'm being churlish to mention that.
Jack White is the guvnor of 'The New Breed'. Genius.

Incident on 57th Street - Milan Nov 28,2007......I really didn't truely appreciate this song when I had the chance to hear it live in San Jose on the Magic tour. I have since come to realize it's beloved place among Springsteen fans and looking back realize how lucky I was to get this nugget that night. I'm still discovering early Bruce stuff I didn't know about. It's like finding a whole new band almost. Yeah I got the Fever bad. Now if I can only figure out how to see about 25 shows in a row. :willya

Johny Winter's first album, which kicks off with I'm Yours and I'm Hers.  Brings to mind why the Stones would open their first concert in three years (Hyde Park, of course) with an obscure cover by an unknown blues player from Texas.  Perhaps because it was a favorite of Brian's?  I've read he loved Creedence in the months before his death, but nothing specific about this.

That clip posted on the Bruce thread a few months ago of Mike Ness singing 'Bad Luck' with Springsteen in LA single handedly encouraged me to check out Social Distortion's back catalogue and Ness' solo work.

I'd heard about them, but they're pretty unknown over here so it was all pretty new to me. Been absolutely blown away by how terrific a lot of their stuff is. On the ipod this morning,  SD's "Somewhere between Heaven & Hell" and Ness' solo album of covers "Under The Influences"

Thank you, Bruce for the tip - as Keith Richards put it,' the greatest thing a musician can have on his tombstone is "I passed it on"'. Another example of how an endorsement from or loose association with some of your favourite acts can turn you on to some other great music.

Europe 72, which I rarely play now because so many Dick's Picks cover that tour (personal favorite, Copenhagen from 4-14, which was my 8th birthday).

Anyway this is a great fucking album except 1) it's too long and 2) I can't help thinking how good a studio album with its new songs would have been.

Yes, if you include the best bits from "Garcia" and Ace, as well as Bertha and Wharf Rat from Skull & Roses on top of the Europe 72 tracks there could have been a studio followup that even surpassed American Beauty. (edit: well, maybe not.)

I'm listening to the new John Mayall called Tough.  The old geezer's still got it at 76.  It's a new band too.  Fairly typical, but highly recommended.

Unbroken Chain (Grateful Dead)

Lyrics: Bobby Petersen
Music: Phil Lesh

Blue light rain, whoa, unbroken chain
Looking for familiar faces in an empty window pane
Listening for the secret, searching for the sound
But I could only hear the preacher and the baying of his hounds

Willow sky, whoa, I walk and wonder why
They say love your brother but you will catch it when you try
Roll you down the line boy, drop you for a loss
Ride out on a cold railroad and nail you to a cross

November and more as I wait for the score
They're telling me forgiveness is the key to every door
A slow winter day, a night like forever
Sink like a stone, float like a feather

Lilac rain, unbroken chain
Song of the Saw-Whet owl
Out on the mountain it'll drive you insane
Listening to the winds howl

Unbroken chain of sorrow and pearls
Unbroken chain of sky and sea
Unbroken chain of the western wind
Unbroken chain of you and me
