Mick Jagger branded a hypocrite after preaching about the planet then travelling by private jet

Rolling Stones fans take to social media to criticise frontman Mick Jagger for preaching on climate change shortly after touring the world on a Stones-liveried Boeing 767

One fan said "No offence Mick but when was the last time you hopped on a bus?"

Rolling Stone fans have branded Mick Jagger a hypocrite after he preached on climate change weeks after touring the world by private plane.

The frontman said “We need to do everything we can to protect our planet and humanity” after worldwide protests on Friday.


But on social media fans pointed out that the band travel in their Rolling Stones-liveried Boeing 767 to their gigs while on tour.

The three-leg tour started in 2017 and has seen 45 shows in Europe and North America.

Fan Colin Gage said: “No offence Mick when was last time you hopped on a bus mate?”

Another fan said: “Flies the earth three times a week, performs on stages that are transported across the globe by hundreds of steeltrucks and that consume enough to power a block of houses for over a year. Big Stones fan here, but this is hypocritical.”

Dr Lucy Gilliam, the aviation and shipping officer from the campaign group Transport and Environment, said private planes were “definitely the fastest way to fry the planet”.


She said it was important that celebrities spoke up, but they needed to examine their own carbon footprints carefully.

She said: “We need system change and individual behaviour change.

“Celebrities have a platform to reach people but studies show that people will take on message more if they behaviour that aligns with message.

“And if behaviour doesn’t align with message then easier to ignore.

“So while I don’t like shaming people and not sure that helps behaviour change, I do think that celebrities need to reflect on their lifestyle.”
