Bite the Big Apple: New Rolling Stones book focusing on band’s connection to NYC due in June

A new book about The Rolling Stones‘ colorful connection to and history with the Big Apple will be published this summer. Can’t Give It Away on Seventh Avenue: The Rolling Stones and New York City, which will be released June 25.

Written by Christopher McKittrick, Can’t Give It Away on Seventh Avenue: The Rolling Stones and New York City follows the British rock legends’ relationship with New York City, from their arrival at JFK Airport in 1964 to begin their first U.S. tour, to playing at packed arenas like Madison Square Garden by the end of the decade, and on to the present day.  Along the way, it looks at the cultural impact The Stones had on New York, and in turn how the city influenced the band and its music.

In an interview with BestClassicBands.com, McKittrick explains what inspired him to focus on The Stones’ association with New York.

“There’s more Rolling Stones history in New York City than any other city in America and, I would argue, any other city in the world,” the author notes. “The Stones have played virtually every venue of note in New York as a group or with their solo bands, and so many of their concert tours have kicked off with major publicity events in New York. [Mick] Jagger, [Keith] Richards and [Ronnie] Wood all lived in New York for a time and became part of the social scene, and Charlie Watts’ boyhood dream was to be a New York City jazz drummer.

Appropriately, the book’s title comes from the 1978 Stones song “Shattered,” an homage to the seediness of New York during that decade. You can order Can’t Give It Away on Seventh Avenue now at PostHillPress.com.
