I think this would apply in Keith's case.

and put it out belatedly at that - a full year after they recorded it - by which time they'd finally figured out that a new record wasnt worth devoting time to).

Lol ..well not true. It was damn well late being as they recorded it in friggin December. By May the album had already been mixed. The record did not come until .. Christmas lol?

The but as it turns out .. and from Don Was's comments.. there were a a few options on the table. A double album with blues tracks (covers) with other being the new stuff. As one of em. The new songs were not ready as a unit (still arent enirely I dont think.

So they decided to sort of just put out The blues thing as its own product ..since it was done all together.. since it was great stuff .. and since they still were not finished and decided on the direction of the new material.

That is why it came out a year later. It could of came out that summer but it certainly isnt a summer type sounding album and as well the record compamy wanted to put it out as a sort of Christmas special .. MINUS any christmas content thank GOOOOOOODNESS hehe.

So while it took long (and ...uh ...er...still IS ...) they didnt give up on the album .. they just sort of put it aside for a while and didn't focus on it. They did resume sessions again a good three or four times since working on the new stuff.

... I kno .. I kno .. believe me I kno ...Like... your question is my question ...when ARE THEY going to focus on it.....? Hmmmmmmmmmm?  Roll Eyes

They are acting like they are 30 years old and have all the time in the world. I wanted them to take their time with this one.. and not put it out until it was truly optimal but.. they have like zero urgency.

Havent they done three tours since they started on this thing in 2015 counting the UK?

While we're waiting for the new album, do you think they can get together for a weekend and record another blues album in the meantime?

Rush release it.
Would make a lot of fans happy!

Chuck interview for Australian radio, recorded in Marseille last week

Mostly about the European tour but he seems to think a new album is more likely to be around next spring

DEAR ROLLING STONES-TYPE MEN:

WHY NOT PUT OUT A ROLLING STONES-TYPE RECORD LIKE YOU USED TO --

  • SIX COVERS

  • FOUR ORIGINALS

THIS USED TO WORK REAL GREAT & SELL A LOT

MAYBE YOU COULD PUT DIFFERENT SONGS ON THE ENGLISH-TYPE RECORD.  THIS WOULD SELL LOTS MORE & YOU USED TO DO THIS TOO.

Alexis Petridis in The Guardian:

Voodoo Lounge (1994): More stripped down and straightforward than its predecessor, Steel Wheels, this isn’t a bad album, exactly, but it sounds as if hard work was involved, the product of craft rather than inspiration: tough coming from a band that, at their best, made it all seem effortless. Also, it feels as if it goes on for about six weeks.
