The most rock solid rumours this year so far are for the following dates

May 17 Dublin - Croke Park (this would probably be the opening night of the tour)

June 19 & 23 London - Twickenham Stadium

Applications have definitely been made for licenses for concerts on those three dates, although its not confirmed for which artist (but you can take it to the bank that its for the Stones...)

Croke Park is far from a sure thing IMO. The local residents are very strict about only permitting three shows per year and those three slots have already been taken (2 for Taylor Swift and one for Michael Buble). About three or four years ago, the promoters added and sold out three extra Garth Brooks shows once an original pair had sold out before applying for a licence, which was then refused after resident's objections. Brooks refused to cancel the extra dates and all five ended up being pulled (thats 400,000 tickets!)

If Aiken Promotions have any foresight, I'd like to think they have the Aviva Stadium in mind for a back-up if the application fails. It holds 30,000 less people, but at over 50,000 its still big enough for a Stones gig and has held major concerts in recent years since it was redeveloped (Madonna, ACDC, Rihanna, etc).

I believe theres also an issue with the number of shows that Twickenham can stage and theyve already announced two Eminem dates there in mid-July.  However, the promoter has specifically asked for two extra dates to be allowed. I'd guess that those shows are more likely to go ahead ok.

Expect to hear something regarding both applications in the next 2-3 weeks.

The fact that they were looking to play in Sunderland suggests there'll be a couple of shows in the north of England. Newcastle's St James Park would be the most obvious alternative to that one but I'd expect something for the Lancashire/Yorkshire area as well - Manchester has certainly been rumoured.

I hope you dont mind, Edith - but I changed the thread title as it might be a good idea to keep these sort of stories together ahead of a tour confirmation.

Yeah, its actually a bit closer to Belfast (100 miles).

Might do that show as a Lucky Dip, if they're going to be available. I think the chances of an upgrade in a stadium that can hold 80,000 would be quite decent. Plus, for only the third time in 51 shows, I could actually get there and home again on the same night.

I'd say were still probably a couple of weeks away from an official announcement as those Croke Park and Twickenham licence applications have to go through,  but in addition to whats been mentioned previously, theres now talk of a show in Edinburgh at Murrayfield Stadium and at St Marys Stadium in Southampton (the latter is a small stadium - maybe about 30,000) and only about 70 miles south of Twickenham).

And the possibility of something else for London in May - probably after Dublin.  Not much availability then in terms of stadiums, so maybe something indoors? Would make sense as I really cant see how the Stones ticket prices could see them being able to play the much rumoured 10-12 shows in the UK if theyre playing only stadiums.

Intriguingly, it also seems they were lined up to play a show at the football stadium in Lyon, France on June 26 - but the club president claims theyve been outbid for a show on the same date elsewhere - he believes its at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille.

https://www.radioscoop.com/infos/les-rolling-stones-a-lyon-un-rendez-vous-manque...

So if THAT is correct, then a) the projected Twickenham shows would not be the last dates of the tour and b) we can all have a party at Egon's house.

It seems like a lot of shows in your neck of the woods Gazza! Get as many Lucky Dips as you possibly can. If you want to buy pit instead, you can always sell these in a heartbeat. Secondly, once in the door if your seats suck sit somewhere open and if someone approaches just act stupid. Warning! It can be dangerous, I was thrown out and beat up once at an AC/DC concert. The other hundred times I had no problem.

It is beginning to smell like a new album is on its way, which may bode well for a slightly more extended tour beyond the dates above. I just can't see them not flogging something to go with these dates.

I am looking forward to these dates more than almost any for the past 10 years. Interesting things happen when Mick and Keith are together in England for extended periods. Blue and Lonesome comes to mind.

Great advice!

Thanks but I wont be going to that many.  The days of me going to 5-10 shows a tour are long gone.

They're not really in my neck of the woods as each show apart from Dublin requires a flight and a night in a hotel. If I lived in England, I'd lucky dip a few gigs as expenses would be relatively minimal but each gig I go to on the mainland will cost me about £300 BEFORE I even buy a ticket.

What are they charging for a pit ticket these days anyway -
£500 - 600? There's no way on earth I'd spend that to see anyone. Even the Stones in their prime.

Even if I had that sort of money to throw around, I'd sooner give it to a homeless person as a point of principle. Honestly.

I plan to Lucky Dip Dublin and see if I can get home the same night and maybe go to the final Twickenham show with a mid-priced ticket.

Things look to be shaping up something like this

May 17 Dublin Croke Park (subject to licence approval)

late May London (indoor shows, maybe 2-3. I note the 02 is free May 21-25 and May 29-30. The 02 is owned by AEG, who also promote the Stones....so..I could be totally off the mark with this one, but a few indoor gigs in an AEG owned venue is the only way I can see the Stones sustaining a UK tour of 10-11 shows

June 2 & 5 Manchester -  Old Trafford Football Stadium or Etihad Stadium

Then a two week gap in which I'd expect around 3 more  shows. I'd expect two of those to be in Edinburgh (Murrayfield Stadium) and Cardiff (Principality Stadium) (going by this story from a Welsh news source this morning - https://www.walesonline.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/rolling-stones-looki...)

And the other one? There have been rumours of a show in Southampton (St Marys Stadium - a smaller venue of about 30,000). Although Southampton is only an hour south of London.

June 19 & 23 London Twickenham Stadium (there have definitely been licences applied for for these shows)

Also strong rumours of a small number of shows outside the British Isles. as Marseille is rumoured for June 26, I'd expect any of those to take place after June 23.  Theres also been strong indications in recent days of a concert for Warsaw, Poland.

Lucky Dips would be the only way I would go to any shows at this point..unless extremely local to me and then maybe the normally low tier price or the parking lot lottery.

The thought that a non-VIP full price ticket can actually exceed the cost of a RT flight NYC-DUB ($450+tax) or a 3 night hotel stay ($400-$600) is just laughable to me. Imagine...a concert ticket actually can nearly double the price of a trip

"I can afford a return  flight to Europe...or a concert ticket...but I cant swing both"... Let's go get drunk

Unfortunately, for Stones concert trips - gone are the days when both the flight and accommodation cost more than the ticket.

The only way I'm flying to see the Stones is if they announce some indoor shows. I've been to Twickenham twice, its a terrible venue with very limited transportation. The trains stop running before the show ends. Instead of adding extra trains to accommodate the crowds as they do in NY, they hang you out to dry. Cops on horseback herding the crowd away is not a fun way to end a long day.

I'd take our cops method of crowd control over yours anyday! Grin

The shows have to end by 10.30.  There are trains long after that. To say they stop before the show ends simply isnt true. Check the schedule.

Twickenham is outside London so the transport could be better - especially at the minute as there is a lot of building work going on. From memory, they supplied extra buses after the Stones shows I attended there to transport people back into town.

40 minute walk gets you back to Richmond which has a tube service into London well after midnight and always has done.

I'd recommend staying in or around Richmond, Kingston or Twickenham for the show(s).  I've done that each time theyve played there. Cheaper and less hassle and easy connection to central London if you want to do any touristy stuff on non-show days.

Some speculation it will be called the No Stopping tour.  Why not just the Don't Stop tour as that is one of their song titles?

Saw the Stones there in  early June1999. A bloody cold show!

Fine stadium though - as good as you'll get for a gig of that size in Scotland.  Its likely to be the choice of venue for a Stones show this year as opposed to Glasgow (which has three similar sized stadia)

The walk back into the city centre (Princes Street) is about 40-45 minutes but you should also be able to get accommodation nearer the venue.

Edinburgh is a great city to visit though. Whilst smaller than Glasgow, theres more to see and do in it.

If "No Stopping" is the name of the tour ( and all signs are pointing to YES)...then it is ripe for some ironic event to come about...I do not like this tour name...the previous 14 on Fire and Ole were gems...even Zip Code was passable (in spite of the fact that they played Canada where they dont have Zip Codes)...

A big No Stopping sign by a bus stop looks more like a street sign directing traffic not to stop there, so I wonder if most people don't get the connection to the Rolling Stones since there is no mention of them in the sign.

Oh you mean our cops in the USA carry weapons and commonly practice police brutality? Its a way of life here, and I meant no disrespect by mentioning being herded out by cops on horseback to the train station but there not enough trains to accommodate the crowd so we had to walk a very long distance and honestly I don't remember how I got back to London but it wasn't easy or fun. Staying close to the venue is a very good idea for Twickers.

https://iorr.org/tour18/

The latest IORR rumoured tour dates thread suggests that there is only likely to be one show at Twickenham - which suggests that the Stones are only going to be allowed a permit for one show there instead of two (which was always going to be an issue  as I think they only allow three shows there a year and Eminem has already booked two of them). The 23rd June show is now more likely to be in Berlin.

Intriguingly, no venue listed for the projected May 22 & 25 dates in London.  The Olympic Stadium has been mooted as a possible venue for those shows - but can the Stones sustain 3 stadium shows in London when theyre also going to be playing other dates within two hours drive of London ?

Even more intriguingly, the 02 Arena (as mentioned above) is free on those two dates.

I saw a "No Stopping" sign here in Dublin today. Tried to upload the picture but couldn't. Anyway, do you guys have a rough idea of how much these tickets could cost? I need to plan the kidney-selling thing. Cheers.

They'll probably vary considerably - I'd expect the Lucky Dip tickets to be pretty cheap but the top priced tickets to be about 6 or 7 times as much.

They might also vary depending on what city youre going to. London will probably be the most expensive or have a higher % of tickets in the pricier categories,

And if they play the 02 Arena, I dont even want to think about it.....

Four or five shows on the continent after the UK leg, most likely.  Have said it all along that anyone who thinks the Stones could sell 14-15 stadium shows in the UK at current prices is delusional.  Thats the equivalent of about 70 stadium shows in the US.

One thing that does strike me though that - even disregarding the name of the tour - the fact that its going to be ending somewhere in eastern Europe convinces me that they intend to do more shows beyond summer 2018.  If they were going to wrap things up this summer - as I figured might be the case - then ending at Twickenham - literally 3 miles up the road from the Crawdaddy in Richmond, where the legend REALLY began, would have been a very apt place to finish.

No offence to the people of Poland, but I dont think the Rolling Stones are intending to end their touring career in a stadium in Warsaw.

Thanks Gazza. By the way, this is interesting. This was published in Irish Times two hours ago. People living nearby Croke Park don't want a fourth concert there this year (the article doesn't say what artist/band could it be though):

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/croke-park-local-residents-oppose...

"Residents living near Croke Park in Dublin are to hold a public meeting opposing more concerts being held in the stadium.

The Clonliffe and Croke Park Area Residents’ Association, which represents those living within an area around the stadium that is cordoned-off for such events, are opposed to a proposed fourth concert being held this year.

Pat Gates, chairman of the group, said three concerts is the maximum number allowed under planning permission granted by An Bord Pleanála.

Aiken Promotions has applied to Dublin City Council for an outdoor event licence for a concert in Croke Park on May 17th."

Yes, as I mentioned at the start of this thread, a show at Croke Park is not a sure thing for that reason.

However, they did allow four concerts in 2009, so theres a precedent.  Having it on a weekday makes it even more of an issue than it should be.

I think it'll go ahead at that stadium though. Hopefully Aikens have had the foresight to look into using the Aviva Stadium as a back up just in case.  It'd be pretty embarrassing if the planned first show of the tour gets pulled.

We should know more in the next few days re a tour announcement.

A nice stadium at about 32K less attendance wise for a concert

Been ages since I’ve posted in here! Hope you’re all well!

Apologies if I’ve kissed this but rumours are the Murrayfield show is June 9 which is great as it’s a saturday! Easier to get a babayaitter now just need to get a ticket!

You could walk from Murrayfield to Princes Street in about 20 minutes I’d say. There’s now a tram route and a stop right outside Murrayfield. In All honesty it’s really central so if folk are coming up you shouldn’t have a problem getting somewhere nearby to stay.

Ed Sheeran is doing Hampden this summer so they might want to be using a different venue. I think someone mentioned Celtic Park and Ibrox in Glasgow but they’re rarely used for concerts.

I’ve been to a few concerts at Murrayfield from REM to Oasis. Standard big stadium venue to be honest. Plenty of bars within walking or stumbling distance!

And either that being June and in Scotland expect it to rain!

Edinburgh’s hitting a bit of a purple patch for shows this summer. Noel gallagher at the castle and the likes of Kasabian and Tom Jones in Princess Street gardens!

Still never seen the Stones so will be trying all J can to get tickets. Missed them a couple of years ago in Vegas!

Thats a great username...lol

Edinburgh is my favourite part of Scotland. Enjoyed seeing the Stones at Murrayfield in '99.  It was June and whilst it was dry I was foundered!!

I think Celtic Park has been used for several shows. Ibrox rarely - mind you, I think Rod Stewart (of all people) has played Ibrox. I'm sure that was awkward .....  Grin

The British tabloid press are the only people I know of who find the combined age of any group of individuals to be of any significance whatsover.

Do they do this with orchestras?

'The London Philharmonic, with a combined age of 4,500 ....'

So if THAT is correct, then a) the projected Twickenham shows would not be the last dates of the tour and b) we can all have a party at Egon's house.

So say we all!!

Did somebody mention flogging? I can help with that.

Yeah, I'm bored.
