Brian Jones in 1969 wearing his green suede fringed jacket

It was the much-loved jacket of Brian Jones, the original leader of the Rolling Stones, which he wore in the months before his death in 1969.

On June 28, it is being put up for sale by his Swedish former girlfriend Anna Wohlin at the auctioneer Bonhams.

She said she had treasured the green suede fringed jacket, designed by Ossie Clark, for nearly 50 years since Jones’s death at 27.

Wohlin and Jones shared a home in East Sussex and it was at this property that he was found dead in the pool in July 1969. Her attempts to resuscitate him failed.

The jacket is priced at £15,000 to £20,000.

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef
