I tend to feel Mick gave more of his energy and passion toward the songwriting of Wandering Spirit and as such it led to a stronger album overall. I think the Wandering Spirits songs, performed by the Stones, would've made for their best record in years...Whereas I feel with while Voodoo Lounge he didn't put in nearly as much effort or passion.

I like wandering spirit. It's the only good solo album he ever did.

but I still prefer Voodoo lounge.
It's maybe the last great album they did.
(Bridges was too overproduced)

the only problem with VL is that
it has too many fillers.
(brand new car, blinded by rainbows, sweethearts...)

I tend to feel Mick gave more of his energy and passion toward the movie Performance  instead of the sessions of Beggar's Banquet !!! Grin Grin Grin

Apples and oranges. In 1968 Mick and Keith were still tight and on the same musical track.
In 1993 that was way different. Mick and Keith were just business partners and I feel Mick's musical vision differed from the Stones. After Steel Wheels I've generally considered his solo work higher than his Stones songs, with a few exceptions like Sweet Neo Con and Streets of Love.

Maybe he just had a few years worth of songs stored by the time he made WS (there hadnt been a Stones album in well over three years by that point), whereas he wouldnt have had the same length of time for Voodoo Lounge (The Stones started recording it five months after WS came out - and about 9 months to a year after the solo album had been recorded)

Definitely his best solo album, although I prefer the Stones album that followed it, mainly because...well, I just prefer the Stones' sound.

His VL songs are of a similar standard to the WS songs, Maybe the solo ones would have sounded more interesting with the band playing them

'Sweet Thing' and 'Hang on to me Tonight' were a few years old and supposedly the Stones worked on them for 'Steel Wheels'.  How developed the songs were at that stage though is another matter. Probably not very.

If the Wandering Spirit proposition is true, Mick paid it all back on Goddess In a Doorway.

You're suggesting those two songs are amongst his best work in the last 25 years or so?????  Grin Grin

I'm not surprised. Several days shooting nude scenes with Anita Pallenberg in her prime vs several weeks in a studio wondering if Brian Jones is going to remain in a drug-induced stupor all night long ?

No fucking contest.

Yeah, outside of a select few songs (Highwire, God Gave Me Everything).
