RIP: Hardy Fox, Co-Founder and Composer for The Residents Dies at 73

October 30, 2018 News RIP, The Latest 0 Comments

By JOHN DALY

Hardy Fox, co-founder of the band The Residents, passed away from brain cancer. He was 73.

Fox was the primary composer for the group, known for its performance art and timely, often anti-establishment songs.

Fox grew up in Texas and attended college in San Francisco in the late 1960s.

Hardy had not played with The Residents since 2015, when he retired. He did continue to write music until his passing.

A lover of music aside from his work with The Residents, Fox also recorded under other pseudonyms, including Sonido de la Noche, TAR, Chuck, Charles Bobuck among others.

A statement on The Residents website said Fox was a “source of joy to those around him.”

It also reads: “As president of the corporation from 1982-2016, the company benefited from Hardy’s instinct for leadership and direction, but his true value came from his longtime association with The Residents. As the group’s producer, engineer, as well as collaborator on much of their material, Fox’s influence on The Residents was indelible; despite any formal training, his musicality was nevertheless unique, highly refined and prolific.

“Blessed with a vital sense of aesthetics, a keen ear, and an exquisite love of the absurd, Hardy’s smiling face was a constant source of joy to those around him. He will be missed. After a series of recent health problems, Hardy succumbed to a brief illness. He is survived by his husband, Steven Kloman.”

RIP, Mr Roeg (who co-directed "Performance".)

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-46329949

Director Nicolas Roeg dies aged 90

Director Nicolas Roeg, whose films include Don't Look Now and Performance, has died aged 90, his family says.

In a career spanning six decades, he was celebrated for his original and controversial film-making.

His 1973 psychological thriller Don't Look Now caused controversy for its graphic sex scenes.

Roeg also directed Mick Jagger in the crime drama Performance and David Bowie in the science fiction movie The Man Who Fell To Earth.

His son, Nicolas Roeg Jr, said his father died on Friday night. "He was a genuine dad. He just had his 90th birthday in August," he said.

Edgar Wright, the British director of Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver, was among those who paid tribute to "a master of the art".

Farewell to the extraordinary cinematic talent, director Nicolas Roeg. His films hypnotized me for years and still continue to intrigue. Along with classics like Performance & Walkabout, I could watch Don't Look Now on a loop & never tire of its intricacies. A master of the art.

Dylan's personal life after he divorced Sara in 1977 is shrouded in lots of mystery and rumour but its been long speculated that he may have been married to Clydie in the early 80's and/or had a child with her.

He later (in 1986) did marry and have a child with another backing singer, Carolyn Dennis, although the marriage ended in the early 90s.

She was a wonderful singer. Really enjoyed her contribution to his gospel era records and shows.

Until yesterday, I never knew that the backing singers on 'Sweet Home Alabama' were Clydie, Merry Clayton and Al Kooper.
