The rock related Obituary Thread

Alert Board Moderator about this Post!
Yes… 2016 was not a good year for rock because of the many great artists passing away but it was a great year for Stones fans: tour in Latin America including playing is some countries for the first time, live dates in the USA, many releases of material from the vaults (Totally Stripped, Stones in Mono), new live album and movie (Havana Moon), a great documentary Olι Olι Olι, a great  new studio album, a video with Kristen Stewart, singles, exhibitionism etc

I don’t want to be pessimistic but realistic, wait for a worse year in 2017 in terms of musicians passing, the life expectative in Europe and the USA is 78 years, and if the distribution is normal, many people in between 74 and 82 years will pass next year. So be prepared!

Fortunately, the list for 2017 does not have any of the Stones current members and we will have them rocking live and in the studio, releasing more new stuff and cool stuff from the vaults

This is a normal distribution curve, just imagine that 78 years old is the point in the middle

...

Wish you the best, be successful but specially be happy and make others happy you lovely B&B!

PS. Live your life to the extreme!

I agree, VooDoo.  2017 is going to suck, on many fronts.  It's time to batten down the hatches and hunker in for one FUCKED up year.  And I guarantee there will be no Rapture or return of J. Christ to save this stuff.  It's not in the cards. Fucking 2018 can't get here soon enough.

Mick Jagger's father, Basil, lived to be 93 years old.  Also, Mick Jagger eats healthy and exercises regularly.  He does not smoke or drink alcohol.  He is a happy person with a positive outlook on life!  In other words, he is going to live forever!  Yay!

I'm just trying to stay optimistic and hope with all my might that 2017 will be easier, more fun and with less appearances by the Grim Reaper. Jesus, it has to be. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Well, this is the sad thing about the arts and culture.  You grow up watching and listening to talented people older than you, maybe even just a couple years older by the time you're a teenager, and you say, "That's what I want to do," or at least you decide that you want to make their work a part of your experience forever.  Sometimes the last part happens whether you intend it to or not.  Then, when you yourself are on the downslope, those people start "returning to nature," as they say - though not always in natural or pleasant ways.  And you feel somewhat betrayed by life.  This happened a bit to my mother when she was in her last years.  Yet 2016 seemed rather heavy-handed as far as star mortality goes, so the sense of betrayal seems a bit less irrational.  When Bowie went, people of all ages seemed to rebel against the very idea of mortality, so great seemed his vitality.

My mother, who died at 70 in 2003, loved Prince in the 1980s, and insisted on my taking her to one of the Purple Rain tour shows.  (At which we saw plenty of older people of all races, accompanied by younger family.)  She'd have been unhappy if he had passed before her, being younger.   She loved Debbie Reynolds, too, and turned me on to Singin' in the Rain.

Myself, I've tried to look at reality, and have steeled my heart a bit toward waking up one day and reading the news - oh, boy - that one of the Stones has passed, or Dylan.  But Bowie in the New Year was a sucker punch, being that the seriousness of his condition was not widely known.  Couple that with Prince by misadventure, and....  In some ways, all of us waking up to read about Bob Dylan's Nobel win was a way of seeing death cheated in this awful year.  But remember...in places like Aleppo, they don't have time for the luxury of such funereal pleasures.

I'm pretty sure Mick enjoys a glass of wine in moderation.

I agree, VooDoo.  2017 is going to suck, on many fronts.  It's time to batten down the hatches and hunker in for one FUCKED up year.  And I guarantee there will be no Rapture or return of J. Christ to save this stuff.  It's not in the cards. Fucking 2018 can't get here soon enough.

moondrop, believe that shit if you must. I refuse to accept that. 2017 best ever!!
