I know the stones have had 9 number 1 albums in the states.sticky fingers,exile on main street,goat,s head soup,it,s only rock and roll,black and blue,some girls,emotional rescue,and tattoo you all made it.does anyone know what the 9th one is?i would like to find out.thanks.

So Gaz', you're saying Let It Bleed didn't make No.1 in the States? Not that I'd disagree with you, perish the thought. I'm just confused, I've got all these different reference books,(for want of a better term) that always seem to disagree with one another. I'm surprised it didn't make No.1, especially then.

No. It topped the charts in the UK but reached #3 in the US.

Some up and coming band from Liverpool released an album named after the studio where they recorded it and it topped the US charts for three months. The same album had been #1 in the UK for eleven weeks before the newly released Let It Bleed replaced it for a week before it went back to the top for another six weeks.

The other album released around that era which consistently outsold it (and which also topped the US charts a couple of times) was Led Zeppelin II.

Does anyone think the sales figures are underrated on the page linked to below?  It's odd to see Sticky Fingers RIAA-certified at 3,000,000 copies, when it was ubiquitous in the 1970s:
