I was hoping for a small review because other people are saying this show wasn't the greatest due to content and lameness of the audience...and since you have been to so many on this tour (I'm guessing 7?)
This was my fourth (SD, Columbus, Minneapolis and Milwaukee) with three left to go (KC, Detroit, and, of course, Buffalo).
I was right next to the stage, and I did not find the crowd to be lame at all. Nobody sat down where I was through the whole show. I looked back and up the amphitheater and it seemed to me that most of the people were on their feet. That said, I would have to say that Columbus was the best crowd so far. 55K people totally rocking out. This was not a lame crowd in Milwaukee, though.
The guitars on this tour are turned way up, and with good reason. Both Keith and Ronnie are playing so well. Last night the whole band seemed to be having a great time and joking with each other. Buddy Guy raises the bar for the Stones....they clearly love and respect him. (And he was fantastic both in his set and on "Champagne and Reefer".) I was hoping we might get "You Gotta Move" with Buddy as a nod to Sticky Fingers, but they were really spot on with C&R.
I love Sympathy now that the guitars are at ear-blowing decibel levels. Moonlight Mile is gorgeous. CYHMK was a real treat last night, especially given the way Ronnie is playing.
I am sick of Doom and Gloom and would love to see some other gem dropped into its place. Also, IORR just is not great live.
The upcoming show in KC will be important for me. I saw the Stones for the first time in June 1975 at Arrowhead....and now I am coming back almost exactly 40 years later to the same stadium (KC is one place that hasn't torn down their stadium in the ensuing years). Who would have thought?
I love this band, and the friends that it has given me. We had a great group in Milwaukee, which made a special show all the more special. The amphitheater was gorgeous and felt even more intimate than the 25K capacity.
Long live the Rolling Stones.
