The band celebrated today’s US rerelease of STICKY FINGERS by playing gems from the album including ‘Can’t You Hear Me Knocking’ and ‘You Gotta Move’.

Also played tonight, for the first time on this tour, was song vote winner ‘Some Girls’, which won the vote by a landslide of 34%.

Mick said:

“What can I say, the loudest audience so far! ATLANTA! Not forgetting the 266 people who came from Macon, and very welcome they are too.”

Keith said:

“Good evening Atlanta! I needed that! It’s great to be back here, it’s been a while. Great to be down south again, good to see you guys, good to see anybody!”

Mick introduced the band members:

“First I want to introduce you to Lisa Fischer, our Georgia peach!

And right behind her, Mr Bernard Fowler, our local peach fancier
On the keyboards and horns Matt Clifford
On the saxophone, Tim Ries
On the tenor, Karl Denson

We were driving round Georgia, and we found this amazing guy, a tree farmer, and we invited him to play on stage with us tonight. Local boy made good, Chuck Leavell!

A note about the Stones' "fan vote" thing: they seem to treat it (if indeed they treat it at all, themselves), as if it were geared to very young children: such obvious and usual songs, no mystery or challenge, nothing potentially challenging to their post-infantile audiences these days (don't mean to be unduly harsh, but isn't that the case these days, relatively speaking?).

The vote thing is an embarrassment to the band and their legacy - shit, would "She Was Hot" (just for example) be too hard to learn and be put up for vote?

Sound was crackling and Keith was on fire the whole night. Easily in my top 5 Stones shows (of 43). Great crowd and fun time. Guitars louder and better than I can remember...what a treat...don't miss this tour if you can at all make it!
