http://bigstory.ap.org/article/qa-richards-new-book-stones-tour-solo-music#08091...

AP: Are you working on music?

Richards: I have a solo record finished, but I don't want to put it out while the Stones are working, so I'm thinking next June.

AP: What was the process like?

Richards: We had no rush. I think we spent a couple of years. (Producer) Steve (Jordan) and I are always working somewhere else, but every month or two we'd come down here and do a couple a day and knock off a couple of tracks. ... Nearly every record I've made is ... 'You've got another five days,' but this one we're taking our time.

Would love to here these new songs played as Keith's 2 song set...I would think it would be a PERFECT time to release it AND promote it...all without the extra overhead...

Uh ... Why on earth would I be "weeping"..??  Still no official release date ...well how could there be ...Keith is um ...."thinking"....  some time next "June". Soooo .. now it's ....>>>> next flippin June of 2015 eh?  ...  hahahahahaha ......(call me crazy.. call me a fool...  but ..I am still not convinced it is done... btw .. remember boys and girls ...if all goes well and exactly as planned we are roughly only another year away now ... at least Keith and Co. are thinking maybe somewhere along those lines .. .. .. Cheesy)

Look .. I am normally the boards optimist... but let's examine this and the facts...(and let's call a duck a duck)  He "supposedly" has a solo finished and that has taken a couple of years already (and that time frame is being very kind).

As well ... IF (*which I highly doubt) it is finished just like I said.. they don't want to put it out while The Stones are on tour ... In addition... your looking at a next summer release at the earliest ... at the earliest ...so NOW it is tentatively JUNE 2015 ?? ... >> middle of next year now LOL cut Mr. Billen a break here guys ..... for this four year solo effort he supposedly has basically had finished and ready to go for what ..a year and a half already?  lol.. .. .. ...

Is the working title for this solo album  .. "Keith's Democracy".. because it sure as shinola should be ...

Hate to sound like such a smart arse here and I don't wanna come off like a kid but how on earth can anyone not see my point? ... or actually have nerve to call me out on this? Now we are looking at another year hahahahahahhha... or so he's "thinking" ?? wtf?

(and your blaming me for not being so convinced?... So we are looking at the next release date for this so called solo album that's supposedly "finished" btw ... you know...just as it has been for a year and a half... lol ... next date ... uh middle of 2015 now (at the earliest .. .. ..).

Keep me posted folks .. ..

Exactly. Why the hold up, Keith? You don't want to release it while the Stones are touring? Bollocks. The Stones likely won't be releasing any new material any time soon, and the forthcoming archival DVDs/CDs are a wonderful thing, but what is his concern here? "Over-saturation"? If ever there was a time for a band indulging in over-saturation of the market it would be the Stones right now. They're not like Springsteen - with or without the E Street Band - who obviously has many years of touring left in him (never mind recording and archival releases). Their time as a touring band may be winding down (duh), but also their time as a recording outfit. It seems to make great sense from a business point of view (God how I loathe the busy-ness world) to release as much stuff as possible at a time when their life as a real working, touring band may be their last.

Its release date wont impact on a Stones tour or other activity one iota.

FFS theyre releasing two archive shows a week apart in November. What difference would it make?

Put the fucker out if its finished. Even as a download. 'Maybe' June 2015 is crap.

Meanwhile, in another galaxy, U2 have just released their new album with immediate effect on i-tunes today.

FOR FREE.

Keith was asked in another interview if they will be on the road for all of 2015. He says that's the way these things normally work.

I'll believe it when I'm at a show after June of 2015!

I think they'll maybe return to Europe and do a small number of shows next summer - there have already been whispers of outdoor London dates around that time, but there's nothing rumoured beyond it.

I get the impression he knows that, hence his choice of 'next June' as a release timeframe. The 'on tour for most of next year' quote is really the interviewer trying to put words in his mouth.

Keith has been talking about doing some solo dates to promote his album, so that might be what we're looking at later in 2015.

Gazz... it will not effect The Stones tour/sales or anything at all .. BUT it doesn't make any sense mate. As well it is not is good taste. He is suppossed to be touring with The Stones... not releasing and focusing on his solo thing.

As well ... it is a "slight" slap in the face at The Stones level to the other band mates. Sort of like bringing the same dish to a party in which you know the owners are making that very dish. Nobody would get angry ... but it's stupid and doesn't really jive... it doesn't have a place.

Keith knows this and so does his management. This is why he said he doesn't feel it's right to release it when The Stones are on duty. Put it out when we have nothing and things are done with The Stones makes sense and is more mannerly.

Like I said... I am doubting this thing is fully recorded or mixed. Not saying the better half isn't done but no way is it finished in the first place IMO. As well ... like I said I see no solid conclusion this thing is going to happen soon ... if at all.

Said it before. He put the Wingless Angels album out about three weeks after the release of Bridges to Babylon. In the middle of a Stones tour.

No one gave a bollocks, then, as I recall.

This time - there's not even a major Stones release to 'compete' with. An archives release is hardly the same.

the delay is probably because he cant promote it with shows when the Stones are active.

You're doubting its even been fully recorded?

You got the info weeks ago and now the artist himself has confirmed it.

For fucks sake, I give up.  Sitting on unreleased albums until you find an excuse to release them isnt exactly a new thing. Ask Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie. It happens.

He makes a point of mentioning it during two national television broadcasts, as well as in interviews with a national newspaper (USA Today) and an international newswire (AP). And you're skeptical.  Oh no! not you again

Put it out between Stones Australian dates and Xmas.  It's not 1985's record industry. No one gives a shit. About any record. I mean I can't wait for it but worrying about some marketing or scheduling position is pointless.  It's 2014. Oh and please put it out on vinyl. Can't wait! much happier to see this then a Stones record.

I have said it again that ..

The Wingless Angels thing wasn't a studio solo record from Keith Richards. It was a record produced by Keith Richards in which he played on here and there. The band are the Wingless Angels. "Main Offender" and "Talk is Cheap" are KR solo records ...as you know.

Two completely different projects, two different records, and each with completely different premises .. unalike ventures all the way around ...(still surprised he released that right on the beginning of a Stones tour though).

I KNOW KEITH says it is done.. but geez man .. he said the same thing a year and a half ago. Both Keith (and Ronnie) are not exactly truthful in their statements as Mick and Charlie basically are.

(Ronnie said they had a whole other record in the making which could easily be finished up in a couple weeks if need be... from their 4 song Paris sessions in 2002... Keith is the same way ... an EXAGGERATOR)

Ian

So with that said.. 1. I am a fool bc I don't have it but I hear the Wingless Angels project is .......very, very good -! How is it in your opinion?

As well ... so let's hear it... how is the new U2 album? (the band has been down hill since 2001 as far as albums go... every album I hear is worse than the one before. Last album I eard from them was No Line OTH ... basically simply "fair" to mediocre to my ears).

I think the Wingless Angels album is superb. The first one anyway. Not to everyone's taste, though.

The U2 album is solid but nothing special. I listened to it the whole way through when I got it on i-tunes - but havent felt the need to repeat the experience right away. I'm playing the new Ryan Adams album a lot more.

I think U2 have been coasting for years. No Line On the Horizon - their last one - was unlistenable.  This one's decent enough, but the spark they had up to the mid 90s or so definitely isnt there anymore.

Ronnie's full of shit about 'another album' from Paris 2002, btw. But he never suggested the songs were finished. If a band records 30 'songs' in two weeks, then it doesnt say much for how advanced they were. Nor does it say much for their quality when they probably spent at least half of that time working on the four songs they chose to release which ranged from unspectacular to turgid.

Daft making that comparison to Keith regarding his album. The record is finished. I've had enough independent confirmation of that before he even chose to say it himself. Can you show me where he confirmed it was done 'a year and a half ago' ?

This. It'll sell a few thousand copies. Even most Stones concert attendees wont buy it. Most wont even know about its existence.

Putting it out in the middle of a Stones tour in 1989 or even 1999 may have been an issue in the way Ian suggests. Nowadays it doesnt matter a shit. The record industry is as dead as a dodo.

And side projects in a band who no longer sell records in large quantities - even by 2014 standards - is even less of an issue. When it comes out, it'll be a story for about a week and thats it. Easy enough to put that out between tour legs and be done with it. There are no shows scheduled after late November until probably around late February.

Am I alone among iTunes' 500 million users in that I can't figure out how to play the damn thing? It says it's purchased, and yet it's not showing up on my list of purchases. It's not in my music library either. Wtf?

If Keith really wanted to plug his new record he'd pick the best track and use it for one of his 2 mid show tunes. Actually that would be pretty cool but of course just my pipe dream...like Keith having one song and Ronnie having one as well mid set.

You're not alone. A few people have mentioned this problem.

I just went into the i tunes store, searched for it and 'bought' it (although its listed as 'free'). That should do it.

Meggy put this advice on my facebook page when someone asked about how to find it.

"Go to the iTunes store and along the side is a list. Click "purchased" all your purchases show up there as well as the U2 album. There is a little "cloud" inside the photo of the album- click it and it will ask for your apple ID and then the album will download to your iTunes library".

It's a Stones show, not a Winos gig. Playing solo material wouldn't happen. Enough people walk out during his set, and his set is based upon Stones songs. Even more would go if there was solo material. Jagger would never go for it either. And probably not Keith.

I just downloaded it for free as well...............But I like GK's idea of Keith doing 1 new song in his set. What the hell.
