Exactly my thought too, nankerphelge.
I think I can say that I do know a bit about vintage guitars.
Back in the 60ies nobody was interested in serial numbers.
The only thing I can think of regarding the # is that the German customs authority might have registered these because of the importation VAT.
But given that the streetprice of a 1963 Gibson FB VII - owned by a Non-VIP person - is mostly higher than the asked price here makes me wonder.
If the seller really has complete provanence that it belonged to Brian - yes, Brian played a FB VII in 1965 during the German "Bravo Blitz Tourne" - he could easily fetch 20 K and more.

Just my 2 cts.

One Paranoid theory...Anita was respected by Jagger and the RS machine (with production opinions allowed as well as credits on songs -SFTD-)...perhaps it was a simple bookkeeping/inventory assignment she had with the group in case of theft or on-line auctions 45 years later, etc...

OR...

since she was a self-proclaimed witch...maybe some sort of numerology thing was in play...
"Oh, no, Brian...buy this one...the numbers add up to the 3rd orbit of a retrograding Mercury...and it's a Tuesday anyway..."

That could explain how the fuck Anita Pallenberg would know the serial number of Brian Jones' guitar...(still cracks me up).

Even if Anita had some sort of inside track, I think she probably had much better things to do than collect and retain the serial numbers of any of their guitars.

Not saying it couldn't have happened. But as philgood noted, serial numbers for vintage Gibsons are very esoteric.

And I suppose for insurance reasons someone may have written that information down for their instruments. But Anita?
