If you had to choose, who wins?

I have both out for this afternoon and intend to get to the bottom of this.

Thoughts?

L&G packaging looks cooler to me. What is the deal with the lady on the cover of the 78 dvd? I wore that shirt the other day.

When I saw each of them in the theater...I thought  each was a fun,
experience. I had only seen LSTNT and SATM in theaters previously.

I thought, however, that Some Girls was extremely exciting...great sounding and the picture quality a tad under exceptional...(please read that as excellent!)

The songs...crowd...and performance were tops. Maybe it has to do with the fact that as a 14 year old, I got to see this tour at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ...thanks to my cousin who made money parking/stowing the tour buses for the shows...
(he was a super at a nearby apartment building)and got me in when I was visiting him that evening...my folks were furious at him...My first concert...i didn't know what the hell I was doing...and i only recall bits and pieces from that night oh so long ago...

The 'post-Maoist' 1978 tour poster was funkier/wittier than the spray-painted jetty-settery 1972 tour poster, shurly?

Texas '78 is the more exciting film, better sound, far more exciting performance.
Has the bonus of being one complete show, as opposed to the mixed nights in L&G.
The sound of L&G is fucked up - don't know if that was a mastering problem from the original quad mix or what, but I can see why they didn't release an audio CD with it.

And of course the fact that Mick Taylor always waaaay over-played live. As well as being boring to watch.

'78. No contest.

L&G is musically excellent, but could have been filmed better.

As a concert movie, Live in Texas '78 is superior.

Texas 78??? Are you people with just poor taste or tards? SG/Texas is an abysmal album, pretty much Love You Live part 2. The tour was great, yeah yeah, Mick sang in tune, there were inflatables  and shit (although still the guitar solos on 78 are just terrible; something might have happened when they returned with Flashpoint, which still sorta sound 'eh' to me, and the tour, where Ronnie and Keith improved - Keith's for sure; his AC 89 concert is fuckin' phenomenal

Live in Texas had a lit stage, as did Hampton '81 - L&G finishes a poor third when Hampton is released.  In addition, Mick has 75% screen time in L&G - it's great to see the entire band in '78 and '81.

That's Carlos Santana yer talkin' about.

I give L & G higher marks for capturing a highly bootlegged set of shows, plus having Mick Taylor and the '72 song lineup, played fresh.

On the other hand, the first time I watched Some Girls Live, I jumped around in my chair so much it made my hernia scar hurt.

Because of this thread, I watched Some Girls Live again last night, and I have to say that it is an unbroken string of great guitar songs and great guitar playing, plus an incredible front man.

But so is L & G, given the limits of its troubled production.

though musically my preferences lean towards L&G the 78 show kicks ass and sonically is so much better, plus i hate the way L&G was edited. one vote for texas 72 and one for texas 78

What do you think this is, Chicago? You get 1 vote! Oh no! not you again

I downloaded a Blu Ray of Some Girls Live.  When I play it from my hard drive in VLC Media Player (latest version), the picture is broken up with horizontal lines.  I can get rid of the lines by using VLC's deinterlace control - but then the picture freezes and lags behind the audio.

Can anyone advise on correcting this?  I have downloaded other Blu Ray films and none of them do this.

I have a DVD rip of Some Girls Live in .avi format, too, and I notice that the picture on that rip is divided into fine horizontal lines.  Do people see this when playing the store-bought DVD or Blu Ray discs on computers?  Is it copy protection?
