My favorite quote in the article:

"I was never that interested in business, to be honest. I do the minimal amount of business as possible because I’m not actually interested in it as a thing." Mick Jagger

Thanks for that.

He'll also be working more on that drama with Scorsese on the music industry for HBO in the coming weeks that they've been talking about for years now, "The Long Play".

Looks like he'll be keeping himself busy for most of the downtime until the Stones go back on the road in October.

He seems to be re-energized in his early 70's than he has been in, in years.

Saw Get On Up over the weekend and thought it was good or OK at best.

The film is all over the place, bouncing back & forth from Brown's adulthood to childhood many, many times.
The story never establishes any continuity and may be hard for some to follow if you don't already know something about James Brown.

Interesting read. Will probably pass on this movie.

Love the candor here:

How closely did the film’s T.A.M.I. Show sequence align with reality?

Jagger:

A lot of poetic license was taken.
It happened kind of like that, but not exactly.
I would have liked to have done it as it actually happened, but we couldn't that do for various reasons, mostly due to money. The true part of it is James was very miffed about not being the top of the bill. In real life, they asked me to go and chill him out because I’d already met him and already talked to him. They thought I’d be a good person because they didn't want to do the dirty work. So, they asked me to try and go chill him out, which I did to a certain extent. But, of course, he wanted to show the real thing that we show in the film -- he wanted to go out there and kill, you know. And that probably made for a better performance than normal. He talked about that a lot afterwards and it meant a lot to him. And I think it was probably the first time that his entire show had been put down on film like that. That’s important for you as an artist.

The church scene with the members all dressed in white and worshipping, dancing in the spirit and speaking in tongues was beautiful.  But, the pastor was kind of creepy, with the long nails and the way he danced.

The fact that there were no pews or pulpit was weird, too!

I saw the movie and I thought it was very good, not great. James Brown had a very hard life which I never knew about, and he was portrayed well. His childhood was heartbreaking. The movie jumped back and forth through time so it was sort of confusing as to what the sequences were, but I got it ok. The only person who doesn't belong in the movie is Dan Ackroyd. He is a comedian and they cast him in a serious role, which didn't work. The scene with the Stones at the back of the stage at the TAMI show was short, and unless you were expecting it you could miss it. I had to point it out to my friends. It was cool seeing MICK's name in the credits, and I am so happy MICK has found something that uses his creativity, although another RS album would be better!

I love this movie.  It's the right combination of funny and sad.  You're laughing one minute, and crying the next.

The musical numbers were excellent!

The flashback scenes helped explain how his childhood experiences influenced him, and formed him into the man, the artist, Mr. James Brown!
