That is a shame.  But it is certainly understandable.

Ironic that I am wearing that AC/DC shirt you got me for my birthday!

Not so fast...................

From Billboard:

AC/DC Not on Cusp of Retirement: Sources

By Gary Graff

Rumors of AC/DC's imminent demise appear to be exaggerated.

Reports surfaced Monday in the group's native Australia that the quintet was on the verge of announcing its retirement due to one band member's (presumably guitarist Malcolm Young's) serious illness. But insiders tell Billboard that there's no truth to the rumor, though the group's management and Columbia Records, its current label, have chosen not to comment on the matter.

Australia's Noise11.com adds that the source of the retirement rumor was an email sent to Perth radio station 6PR from an anonymous tipster using the handle Thunderstruck. The station subsequently spread the word, setting off a flurry of reports first throughout Australia and then worldwide.

This is hardly the first time AC/DC has been rumored to be on the verge of calling it quits. Frontman Brian Johnson set off a furor in 2011 when he spoke of retirement, though he subsequently claimed to have been quoted out of context.

In fact, he told Billboard at the time that, "A journalist asked me once, 'What do you think about retirement, Brian, seeing as you're getting older?' I said something honest and quite naive; I said, 'Well, I'll retire when I can't do it anymore and as soon as I feel I can't do it anymore, then I'll retire.' Next thing I now there's a headline, 'Brian Johnson's gonna retire' and I'm like, 'Y'know, what a piece of shit that guy is.' And it came out all wrong so you got to be careful what you say. Retirement is like anything... There's a time when you have to call it quits. I don't want to do it, and if we can get out and (do) the album and do another short little tour or something, have a bit of fun, I'm your man. I'll be right there."

In fact, the retirement speculation ran counter to yet another report that will likely please fans more. According to The Australian, AC/DC has booked six weeks of studio time in Vancouver, to work on a follow-up to 2008's chart-topping, double-platinum "Black Ice, which was recorded there with producer Brendan O'Brien. Nobody in the band's camp is commenting on that, either, but earlier this year Johnson predicted that AC/DC would indeed be working on a new album as well as playing a 40-date tour to commemorate the group's 40th anniversary.

Rumours flying.

Jesse Fink, who has written a book on AC/DC, has started a twitter war with the original reporter in Australia who went with the story, however even his rebuttals aren't all that encouraging.

AC/DC The Youngs ‏@JesseFink·9 hrs
@mrpford @ACurrentAffair9 AC/DC deserves respect. They are entitled to make an announcement on their own terms. You've shown no respect.

Well If Malcolm Young cant perform maybe they could try using his younger brother to take his place but it wont be the same. I remember when Bon Scott died nobody thought they could go on but they did it and they did it well.
What a drag it is getting old.

Christians here are happy about the retirement of ACDC, who have been a nail in their cross since the Dirty Deeds days, culminating in the anti-Christian rock opera "Highway to Hell."  I mean for Chrissake, ACDC even put little devil horns and and a little devil tail on the cover photo of Angus Young (while Bon Scott beamed on), in a deliberate attempt to praise The Fallen Angel/Satan, and challenge listeners.  See Sons of Perdition at John 17:12 ("While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.").

The die was cast.  Alea jacta est.  ACDC drew lines in the smelch.  See Revelation 20:7-8.

Argentinians love their rock-n-roll.

I once read that The Ramones used to consistently play stadiums there, only to return home and play clubs.

From the AC/DC Facebook page:

After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support.

In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music.

From The Telegraph:

AC/DC: We are not retiring

Exclusive: Brian Johnson, the frontman of the rock band AC/DC, tells Jake Wallis Simons that rumours that the band are about to split up following concerns for the health of Malcolm Young are not true

Brian Johnson, the flamboyant frontman of the rock band AC/DC, has debunked rumours that the band are about to split up following concerns for the health of one of the members. Instead, he revealed that the band are still planning to get together and write material for a prospective new album.

"We are definitely getting together in May in Vancouver," he told the Telegraph. "We're going to pick up some guitars, have a plonk, and see if anybody has got any tunes or ideas. If anything happens, we'll record it."

He confirmed that one member of the band – thought to be rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, the older brother of school-uniform-wearing lead guitarist Angus Young – has been suffering from ill health, but denied that this meant the end of the road for the band.

"I wouldn't like to say anything either way about the future," he said. "I'm not ruling anything out. One of the boys has a debilitating illness, but I don't want to say too much about it. He is very proud and private, a wonderful chap. We've been pals for 35 years and I look up to him very much."

It has been reported that AC/DC are planning a tour to mark their 40th anniversary, which would involve 40 concerts in 40 different venues. "That would be a wonderful way to say bye bye," said Johnson. "We would love to do it. But it's all up in the air at the moment.

"AC/DC is such a tight family. We've stuck to our guns through the Eighties and Nineties when people were saying we should change our clothes and our style. But we didn't and people got it that we are the real deal."

Earlier, Young's difficulties were discussed by his friend Mark Gable, the frontman of fellow Australian band Choirboys who said it appeared the 61-year-old "is unable to perform any more". There were suggestions that Young had suffered a stroke.

Speculation about his health led to suggestions the band were on the brink of retirement, a rumour Johnson has now scotched.

The band has previously survived the death of its singer when Scottish-born frontman Bon Scott died in 1980 after a night of heavy drinking in London, to be replaced by Johnson, who has remained as vocalist ever since.

SYDNEY, April 16 (UPI) -- AC/DC founding member Malcom Young announced his retirement on Wednesday amid rumors that the band is breaking up.

The band writes in an announcement on their Facebook that "after forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC," Young will be "taking a break from the band due to ill health."

"Malcom would like to thank the group's diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support," the statement continues. "In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcom and his family's privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music."

Rumors of a breakup began to swirl Monday night after Australian radio station 6PR tweeted that Young had moved back to Australia due to illness. AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson denied a breakup on Wednesday just hours before the band's announcement on Facebook, and said that the group still plans to reunite and write a new album.

"We are definitely getting together in May in Vancouver," Johnson told The Daily Telegraph. "We're going to pick up some guitars, have a plonk, and see if anybody has got any tunes or ideas. If anything happens, we'll record it."

Johnson acknowledged that "one member" of the band is sick, but said he "wouldn't like to say anything either way about the future."

"I'm not ruling anything out," the musician conceded. "One of the boys has a debilitating illness, but I don't want to say too much about it. He is very proud and private, a wonderful chap. We've been pals for 35 years and I look up to him very much."

Johnson said the band "would love" to do a 40th anniversary tour, but "it's all up in the air at the moment."

Sad to hear that his health is poor.

I wish Malcom the best, and hope for a recovery over whatever is ailing him.

Hope AC/DC can still get the groove without him -- must be a horrible let down for everyone involved.

Here's a little something for Malcom fans everywhere:

These people may be rejoicing about the ACDC retirement news.
...

Whatever their faults, ACDC had fortitude.  They came to the U.S., a country where 80% of citizens self-identify as believers in the divine origins of the Bible and the virgin birth of god's son (Nazareenian Jesus Christ) for the ostensible purpose of salvaging all human beings from a fate worse than death (i.e. eternal damnation).  And a lot of other stuff too.  Yet, ACDC entered this market mocking, deriding, disparaging, besmirchalizing and completely degrading the core beliefs of that 80%, with songs such as Highway to Hell, Hell's Bells, Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be, Back in Black, and Big Mondo Balls.  That is not a top notch marketing plan, and Atlantic Records had to know that.  Yet, they stuck to it, believing they could reach the 20% minority, and you can't challenge their $$$,$$$,$$$ success in the niche anti-Christian fan market.

Will Malcolm Young Return to AC/DC?

by Jeff Giles August 6, 2014 10:20 AM

...
Martyn Goodacre, Getty Images

It’s still a little hard to believe that AC/DC finished work on its next album without ailing co-founder Malcolm Young. But if a band biographer’s inside information is to be believed, fans may need to prepare themselves for Young’s permanent absence from the lineup.

Jesse Fink, author of the new book ‘The Youngs: The Brothers Who Built AC/DC‘ (an exclusive excerpt from which can be read right here), was asked about Malcolm’s health woes during a recent appearance on the Boston radio station WZLX, and responded, “I’m not expecting to see Malcolm return.” According to Fink, the Youngs’ nephew Stevie, who filled in for Malcolm during the sessions for their upcoming LP, could well be in for the long haul. “I think the important thing is we all let Mal be and hope he can recover. But I think we should all expect that Stevie Young is in the band now.”

Fink declined to go into further detail regarding Malcolm’s health during the interview, and he reiterated his respect for the family’s privacy when reached for comment by UCR. “As far as I’m concerned, his illness is a private matter,” he explained. “However, fans seem to think his illness is just going to quickly go away and he’s going to be there on stage when they announce their tour. If what I have heard from numerous sources is true, then I expect Stevie Young will be touring with the band and not Malcolm. That’s not a seditious viewpoint. It’s realistic.”

It’s sad news for fans and well-wishers who’ve been holding out hope that Malcolm would be able to recover enough to rejoin the group, but Fink was able to offer a silver lining in the form of some advance buzz on AC/DC’s new music. “I’m hearing on very reliable authority the new album is up there with (2009′s) ‘Black Ice‘ or even better,” he added. “So Stevie must be a good replacement for Mal.”

It's Stevie Young, Mal and Ang's nephew, who replaced Mal at the American leg of their 1988 tour cuz Mal went to rehab for booze, that's in the place of Malcolm for the album. It has been finished already two months ago. BTW, Stevie's usually associated with a still living Young brother, but no, he's the son of the oldest Young brother, who's passed on already (it's a bigass and old family). Stevie in fact, looks older than both Mal and Ang. (And probably IS older than them). Everything's alright. Brian talked about the title of the album being "Man Down" but nothing has been confirmed yet - only that the album's finished and they're going on tour, DEFINITELY.

Erm, I happen to be a member of a certain AC/DC fan forum, and they know their shit. Heck *I* know my shit, what with being a member of their virtual band and a singer on AC/DC cover bands for more than 20 years.

I can't even think about Malcolm. The fact that the best rhythm guitarist in the entire galaxy and the MAN of AC/DC can't play just saddens the shit outta me. Hope he's fine back in Melbourne.

Alas, reminding myself of AC/DC just pisses m e off cos I lost my voice from all those years of screaming for a bunch of people who weren't even my friends - just a bunch of asshole opportunists. Also I just made my ashtray fall on the  ground while looking for fuckin' artificial saliva and lip cream (I have photophobia) and I'm typing this from my onscreen keyboard, cos Lenovo and Microsoft suck RAW DONKEY DILDO and I can't use my physical keyboard. So fuck this shit.

Be well, Mal.

Best AC/DC post evah! really?

Sad to tell you guys - hello there btw, it's been a while - Mal has permanently retired. The bloot clot from the stroke in his brain caused permanent damage and he's in a nursing home in Melbourne suffering from dementia. I cried the whole last week.

This is a man who's always been called a ruthless asshole who dismissed everyone that got in his way, but what people can't see through is the very fact that he, by HIMSELF, has managed to overcome Bon's death, alcoholism, his feud with Phil Rudd that came to a head in '82 (Phil too had a hard time coping with Bon's death and indulged in too much coke and booze back then) and then the subsequent ''decay in quality'' and 'cartoonish image'' that AC/DC seemed to have attained from '84 until nowadays (decay my ass, Fly On The Wall and ESPECIALLY Blow Up Your Video, which by the way was their first topten record since For Those About To Rock in  1981, and ''cartoonish'', well, there are many ways to sell a band's image in the music business, and that' what they went for since the BEGINNING OF THEIR CAREER) and YET still keep the band as tight knit and low profile as he did shows simply that he actually CARED about what he was doing. And the very fact that so many AWESOME riffs and the best, most precise, tough-as-nails rhythm guitar playing in the world also came from this man gives NO ONE the right to call him an asshole. There's the music business, and he did his best, not for ego's sake, not for money, but because he CARED about what he did, otherwise AC/DC would've been irrelevant and would probably cater to whatever trends that were happening then, and now - THEY DON'T. AC/DC is AC/DC and there's no other band like it, and it takes a hell of a lot of effort to expand upon a unique brand of rock'n'roll - REAL rock'n'roll without repeating yourself, which they did NOT.

Mal did his best and succeeded, and it saddens me profoundly that such a hard working man had to suffer from such a terrible ending to his life. I hope he's being taken good care of and that he suffers the least as possible.

Sorry to come back bearing such bad news, but I thought you guys should know. The world has lost its best rhythm guitarist ever.

Bless you Mal, and thank you.

Very sad news for everyone involved.

Looking forward to seeing them live -- you know this will be a barn burner tour just as a tribute.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — New Zealand authorities made an embarrassing about-face on Friday when prosecutors dropped a murder-for-hire charge against AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd, saying there was not enough evidence to proceed.

But the 60-year-old member of the popular Australian band still faces a serious charge of threatening to kill, which comes with a maximum prison term of seven years. He also faces charges of possessing methamphetamine and marijuana.

Police had initially accused Rudd of trying to arrange for a hit man to carry out two killings, and had charged him with attempting to procure murder, which comes with a maximum 10-year sentence. But when prosecutors took over the case, they quickly dropped the charge.

"The file was obtained today and reviewed," Tauranga Crown Solicitor Greg Hollister-Jones said in a statement Friday, adding he had "made the decision that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the charge of attempting to procure murder."

Rudd's lawyer, Paul Mabey, said the damage to his client had been incalculable and he was considering possible remedies.

"The charge alleging an attempt to procure murder should never have been laid," Mabey said in a statement, adding, "Mr. Rudd has suffered unnecessary and extremely damaging publicity as a result of widespread and sensational reporting of a very serious allegation, which on any basis was never justified."

So he was high, threatened to kill someone and whomever was in the room call the police. Ok.  I'll bet the only thing that sticks is the possession charge.

"An extensive North American Tour", it says

13 shows is extensive?

7 of the 13 shows are in Canada !

Think its pretty safe to say there'll be a lot more shows than that - especially as they're playing 25 dates in Europe. Most of which are in massive stadiums or even bigger parks.

http://gawker.com/ac-dc-drummer-pleads-guilty-to-threatening-to-kill-form-169912...

Arrested in November for allegedly plotting the murder of a former employee, AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd pled guilty in a New Zealand court today to one count of threatening to kill and two drug possession charges, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

According to a summary of facts read in court on Monday, the charges stem from Rudd’s anger over a failed solo album. After the album flopped, a furious Rudd reportedly fired a number of employees, including the personal assistant named as his victim. From The New Zealand Herald (emphasis added):

On September 25, at around 8.12pm, Rudd called an associate holidaying in Australia and said he wanted the victim “taken out”.

When asked what he meant by that, Rudd said he wanted them “taken out” because “they were a bunch of [fuckers] and [cunts]”.

In another call to the same associate, while he was still in Australia, he offered him $200,000, a motorbike, one of his cars or a house.

The associate took this to mean as payment for carrying out his earlier request.

On September 26, at around 8.27am, Rudd called the victim to ask if he “was on” today.

The victim replied yes, before Rudd later responded “I’m going to come over and kill you” and then repeated “I’m going to come over and kill you, you [fucking cunt].”

In November, police arrested Rudd after searching his home and discovering 0.71 grams of meth and 130 grams of marijuana. Since then, prosecutors have dropped their initial charge of attempting to procure murder and an additional count of threatening to kill.

Scheduled to be sentenced in June, Rudd’s attorney says the musician intends to contest the conviction at that time, a legal peculiarity available to defendants who have pled guilty in New Zealand.

“This matter essentially revolved around an angry phone call,” said lawyer Craig Tuck, “that was it.”
