THANKS FOR POSTING!  Tower Theatre in PA, but no mention of the NY venue on TM yet! It wont be a club show in NY so Philly looks promising depending on ticket prices. Neil puts on a really powerful show every time.

Hard to believe it's now coming up on eight years since they last toured together (I think the Greendale tour was the last, wasnt it)

To be honest, the best gigs I've ever seen him do were the two 'Chrome Dreams' shows at Manchester Apollo three years ago this week. An acoustic set, followed by a set with the band after the interval.

He was onstage for two and three quarter hours each night. Love Crazy Horse, but I thought the band he toured with in recent years was more diverse. Unfortunately, Ben Keith has since died and I think he's alluded to not playing many of those songs again.

Neil Young Unearths 1984 Live Album, A Treasure, Recorded with Legendary Band, The International Harvesters

"I love this record," Young says. "I hadn't heard these takes in 25 years, but when we unearthed them co-producer Ben Keith said, 'This is a treasure.'" Part of what makes A Treasure so compelling is the musical contributions of The International Harvesters, with whom Young was playing at the time.

This 12-track live album includes songs recorded during Young's 1984 U.S. tour in support of his album Old Ways and contains six previously unreleased tracks. A Treasure features Young's onstage work with some of the greatest artists in the history of country music, including the late, great Ben Keith on steel and slide guitar and Rufus Thibodeaux on fiddle, along with living legends Spooner Oldham and Hargus "Pig" Robbins on piano, Tim Drummond and Joe Allen on bass, and Karl Himmel on drums, among many others.

Exclusive pre-order bundles are available today.

His work with the Harvesters was pretty damned good (much better than the Old Ways *2* that came out at that time, which is just unlistenable). I'm looking forward to this!

Saying the tour was 'in support of 'Old Ways' is a bit misleading, as that album didnt come out until August 1985.

It's a bit hit and miss, but always was worth getting for 'Misfits' alone. Jimmy McDonough who wrote 'Shakey' was right when he said it was Neil's best song of the 80's.

In typical Neil fashion, he was on tour playing loads of (then) unreleased songs.

Here are the setlists from 1984 -
http://www.sugarmtn.org/year.php?year=1984 - the International Harvesters tour ran from late August to October.

He was even playing 'Razor Love' - 15 years before he released it on a studio album! (Silver & Gold)

No wonder Geffen were going mad at the stuff he was putting out back then. Each album bore no musical resemblance to the one that preceded it. Didnt they try and sue him for making uncommercial records that weren't 'characteristic of his previous recordings' ? A move that cost Geffen dearly in reputation and income as it ended up dissuading other acts from signing for them (namely REM) fearing label interference.

Strange that this seems to be a 'standalone' release and there's been no mention of it being part of the 'Archives' series.

Buffalo Springfield Launch First Tour in 43 Years

"Thank you, we're Buffalo Springfield," Neil Young announced early in the band's June 1st show at the Fox Theater in Oakland, the opening date of the Springfield's first tour since the spring of 1968. "We're from the past," Young added drily.

They were not – he could have added without fear of contradiction – stuck in it. For nearly two hours, in a performance comprised almost entirely of songs from nearly half a century ago, Buffalo Springfield's surviving members and original vocal-songwriting front line – Young and singer-guitarists Stephen Stills and Richie Furay – played like a band genuinely reborn: thrilled to be on stage again, determined not to let their songs or legacy down. There was jubilant fraternity in the close-harmony singing, especially by Young and Furay in the soft vocal rain at the end of "On the Way Home" and their gleaming Morse-code flourishes behind Stills' grainy tenor in "Rock and Roll Woman."

Photos: Buffalo Springfield Kick Off Their Reunion Tour

There was also nerve. After a 14-song set that veered from "Hot Dusty Roads" and "Everybody's Wrong," a pair of gritty Stills numbers from deep inside the 1966 debut LP, Buffalo Springfield, to Furay's great lost ballad "Sad Memory" from 1967's Buffalo Springfield Again, Young opened the encore by leading the group through "Broken Arrow," his epic frontier daydream at the end of Again. A complex studio creation, it was recorded by Young as a solo piece, with session men, and never performed live in the Springfield's first lifetime. Tonight, the song featured Stills at the piano, Furay flying next to Young in the chorus harmonies and its original honky-tonk country coda. This was more than exciting resurrection – it was a kind of justice, the way the Springfield would have played and recorded Young's suite if they hadn't been so busy falling apart at the time.

Choose Rolling Stone's Cover: The Sheepdogs vs. Lelia Broussard. Vote Now

Formed in the spring of 1966, Buffalo Springfield played their last show in May, 1968 in Long Beach, California. In between, they were one of the most gifted and fractious bands of their day, ultimately better known for their precedents – like the strong early whiff of country in their rock – and aftermaths: Crosby Stills and Nash; Furay's great twang-rock band Poco; Young's solo triumphs and eccentricities. The original Springfield, with bassist Bruce Palmer (who died in 2004) and drummer Dewey Martin (who passed away in 2009), made only one album, 1966's Buffalo Springfield, before tensions set in and Young started his comings and goings. Again and 1968's Last Time Around were more like anthologies, comprised of songs made by versions of the group, depending on who wrote the song and led the session.

I'll admit, as a Springfieldophile (that is totally a thing), that it's always rather nnoying that people assume Neil did "Broken Arrow" without the band. In fact, every original member of the grouo plays on that one, as it was recorded in September of '67, well after Neil had left/returned to the group (and, during that time, recorded Expecting to Fly, which DID involve only session musicians).

From the Buffalo Springfield boxed set liner notes, the recording info for "Broken Arrow":

Neil Young: Guitar, vocal
Richie Furay: Guitar, background vocal
Stehpehn Stills: Guitar
Chris Sarns: Guitar
Don Randi: Piano, organ
Bruce Palmer: Bass
Dewey Martin: Drums, vocal
Also: Strings
(Jazz theme [at the end of the song]:
Don Randi: Piano
Jim Horn: Clarint
Hal Blaine: Drums
Harvey Newmark: Bass)

So, a couple of session guys helping out, yes, but full-on without the Springfield? Hardly. I mean, was Richie's distinct harmony vocal in that song not enough to convince anyone?

Anyway, end Springfield rant. Don't suck my cock

Yeah I know. Was never a big BS fan. But seeing the setlist and youtube clips and reading the reviews. It sounds like a hot show. Not too much Neil does that isn't.

Neil Young heads to the country on 'A Treasure'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Neil Young entered the mid-'80s under fire from his record label for making music it said it couldn't sell and under attack from the IRS for having "too much artistic control."

http://d.yimg.com/a/p/ap/20110617/capt.9f8c9c762b5946479e2b45d108d8e25b-9f8c9c76...
AP – FILE - In this Oct. 24, 2010 file photo, Neil Young performs during the Bridge School Benefit concert …

He was making a rockin' kind of country music that didn't resemble his greatest records and his label said didn't appeal to radio programmers. Those things didn't matter to Young, though. He was having the time of his life, playing 85 shows across North America in 1984 and `85 with The International Harvesters, and you can hear it on his new live album, "A Treasure."

"I don't like boundaries," Young said in an interview at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum this week. "They don't really work. They do for some people. It all started when they started formatting radio and separating things into different little areas that they could talk about and then restricting who would play what. That was very counterproductive, when they took the decision-making from the individuals and gave it to the corporate heads. That was destructive to music. But we're coming back."

"A Treasure" doesn't just hold up 26 years later; it fits right in and again shows Young for the pioneer he is. It arrives at a time when roots music is on the rise and artists like Taylor Swift, whose music and spirit Young says he enjoys, are erasing boundaries that were created decades ago.

Young helped define the folk-rock movement as a solo artist with Crosby, Stills & Nash and with the newly reunited Buffalo Springfield. With bands like Crazy Horse, he helped push rock `n' roll into the 21st century through his influence on artists like Kurt Cobain, Jeff Tweedy and Jim James. And his ideas about country- and folk-rock still resonate, in part inspiring a thriving indie scene that feeds such cultural touchstones as Bonnaroo.

Young gathered reporters and some of The Harvesters at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Monday to talk about the release of "A Treasure." He said he was exposed to all kinds of music growing up. He got his country from popular Canadian acts like Hank Snow and Ian Tyson and lesser-known acts like Bluegrass Bob & The Bobcats.

"Nobody ever heard of them, but I grew up with them," Young said. "So that's always been around. And I love Jimmy Reed. He's not country. He's blues. But I don't see the difference. I just see real music. So I'll take a little wherever I can get it."

And that sometimes includes present-day country music.

"Yeah, I like Taylor Swift," Young said. "I like listening to her. I kind of like watching her respond to all the attacks. I like the ways she's defining herself. So I keep my eye on it."

Young focused on Nashville early in his career, coming to town in 1971 to record his iconic album "Harvest." That's where he met bassist Tim Drummond, who would serve as his tour guide and "architect" for assembling The Harvesters.

Players joining them on tour included the late pedal steel player Ben Keith, keyboardists Spooner Oldham and Hargus "Pig" Robbins, the late Cajun fiddler Rufus Thibodeaux, drummer Karl Himmel, multi-instrumentalist Anthony Crawford and bassist Joe Allen.

Each had made waves in the music world before joining Young. Drummond had played with artists as diverse as Conway Twitty and James Brown. Himmel laid down a defining shuffle for J.J. Cale that's still imitated, and he played with Bob Dylan and George Jones. Keith had been an influential figure in Nashville for two decades before Young came along. And Oldham was busy writing and playing on some of the most iconic recordings of our time, Young noted, including Farfisa organ on Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman."

"That's a defining moment there when someone plays an instrument that everyone relates to around the planet," Young said. "That's the kind of musician he is and the kind of musician all of these guys are."

Young set them free on the songs that make up "A Treasure." "Are You Ready for the Country?" and "Flying on the Ground Is Wrong" are well-known Young staples. But five unreleased songs will be new for fans who don't obsessively trade bootlegs of live performances.

The album-closing "Grey Riders" might be the song that best showcases Young's ability to meld sounds. It opens with Thibodeaux sawing a haunting melody over a simple 4/4 beat as Young sings of ghostly riders who pass in front of his window. There's a haunting synth sound building the tension, and Oldham helps pick up the pace with a tinkling piano section before Young launches into a powerful guitar solo.

It's not unlike a song you might hear at one of today's arena rock-influenced country shows. At the time, it was too far out for country radio and even Geffen Records. But Young's band recognized it for what it was.

Oldham, like Young, is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He's a key architect of the Muscle Shoals and Memphis sounds and has worked on some of the songs that define modern music. Yet his time with The Harvesters ranks among his favorite.

"This sits right at the top, in the top five, because of all these people in the band," Oldham said. "Rufus, Neil, Anthony, Karl, it was like a family on the road. And we got to know their wives and girlfriends. The music on stage every night was a thrill. It kept elevating our minds. Even though we sort of knew the songs, you could sense the freedom to step further if you wanted to. It was challenging. It was fun. It wasn't boring in any sense of the word for a player."

Young called The Harvesters the greatest single collection of players he's ever joined on stage and said he thought he was the weak link in the group.

"They should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame and I really hope they are someday," Young said. "And I think this record really displays why."

Word to your Mother Baby...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHBikURKkUM

Just hope it's good low down, dirty, loose, raw Country, instead of top 40 shit.

Yeah I heard about that Mojo. they really rolled out the classics this year for Outside Lands. Neil and the Horse,The Foo Fighters and Metallica. I still probably won't go though. I do not care for festival shows. I'm just happy the Bruce rumours didn't turn out true. Although,if they were then at least I'd know he's coming back to the west coast. But I have to finish my Spring Fling before I plan a summer/Fall assault on high priced shows. Have you no fucking shame?

Outsanding show in Lake Tahoe thursday night. Ole Shakey is still a guitar God. Him and the Horse put on a clinic in old fashion jamming. None of the synth pop crap you hear nowadays. Jus tstrap it on and play. Not everubpdy cared for it I guess. Friday night I was sitting at a blackjack table and the lady next to me was complaining about the show. "He wasn't as good as he was with CSNY".....No grandma, that's a whole 'nother story. You rock!

Neil Young and Crazy Horse Double-Disc 'Psychedelic Pill' Due in October
Album is group's first collection of original songs since 2003

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic

Neil Young and Crazy Horse's new LP Psychedelic Pill will hit store shelves sometime in October. According to an update on Young's official website, "a double-CD and triple-vinyl will be released because of the lengths of many of the songs, some of which were previewed in Crazy Horse's live performances earlier this month . . . A recommended high resolution 24/192 full fidelity version of the album Psychedelic Pill will be released on Blu-ray." The group will also release videos for each of the songs.

Crazy Horse guitarist Frank "Poncho" Sampedro told Rolling Stone about the new disc in June. "It's us jamming and having lots of fun," he said. "I think that [former Crazy Horse producer] David Briggs would be proud of it . . . Once he was gone, I felt like we lost our compass a bit. We had the sound and we had the big machine, and we could play anything and play pretty good, but we weren't putting any great records together. I mean, Broken Arrow was OK. It wasn't like Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere or Rust Never Sleeps or Ragged Glory."

Earlier this month the group launched their first tour in more than eight years. The setlist features six brand new songs, including the 20-minute feedback-drenched epic "Walk Like A Giant." "Neil came into the studio and he had that song," Sampedro said earlier this month. "We played it one time and the next thing we know we're doing overdubs. Then he played it for us. The playback just blew our minds. We had no idea we'd done something that big. I imagine it's about Earth being destroyed by this giant, and we're screening the planet for survivors and shit. I have all these images going through my head. It's really crazy."

The guitarist also spoke about the title track "Psychedelic Pill." "That song began in the studio when Neil sat down at the piano and began playing chords," Sampedro said. "Ralph [Molina] was on drums and he started this beat on the snare and wouldn't stop for nearly an hour. We stood up and played it and realized it was a great song. We just haven't performed it that great yet, but we're getting more comfortable every night."

Just three months ago Neil Young and Crazy Horse released the folk covers disc Americana. Surprisingly, they are only playing a single one of those songs, "Jesus' Chariot," during their live show this summer. "They just didn't fit in," Poncho said. "Somehow they really sound good when we play them together, but when we play them in a set they just didn't fit in. I told Neil that I thought it was a lot of fun playing them and they're great songs, but our soul and our hearts aren't in them."

The band is on a break right now, but the tour resumes in late September and runs through early December. They have yet to announce exactly when in October the new LP will be released.

Neil Young Opens Up About Sobriety
Rocker also discusses his new memoir, digital music format
...

Neil Young
Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic
By Rolling Stone
September 19, 2012 1:10 PM ET

Neil Young has been sober for a year after drinking and smoking pot for decades, he reveals in a new profile in the New York Times. During a recent interview at his sprawling home in the redwood forest south of San Francisco, Young speaks about writing his upcoming autobiography, Waging Heavy Peace, the many obsessions that have fueled his career and his decision to get clean.

"I did it for 40 years," he says. "Now I want to see what it's like to not do it. It's just a different perspective."

In the book, he elaborates: "The straighter I am, the more alert I am, the less I know myself and the harder it is to recognize myself. I need a little grounding in something and I am looking for it everywhere."

Yet the book – written despite Young's onetime declaration that he would never write a memoir – features some requisite tales of rock & roll excess. The 66-year-old recalls being arrested for drugs with Eric Clapton and Stephen Stills, and he jokes about David Crosby's legendary stash: "I still remember 'the mighty Cros' visiting the ranch in his van. That van was a rolling laboratory that made Jack Casady's briefcase look like chicken feed. Forget I said that! Was my mike on?"

Elsewhere, Young makes no apologies for the sometimes confounding career decisions he's made over the years. "I work for the muse," he tells the Times. "I'm not here to sell things. That's what other people do, I'm creating them. If it doesn't work out, I'm sorry; I'm just doing what I do. You hired me to do what I do, not what you do. As long as people don't tell me what to do, there will be no problem."

The guitarist talks about the projects that have consumed him lately, including designing an electric car he hopes to drive to the White House, making a movie on the way and writing another book, this one about all the cars he has owned.

Young also acknowledges that Pono, the proprietary music system he has developed as a high-quality alternative to MP3s, has been picked up by Warner Brothers for use with the company's back catalog of recordings, and that he and longtime manager Elliot Roberts are negotiating with other labels.

Young says he's thankful that Roberts has helped him make plenty of money over the years. "I spend it all," he said. "I like to employ people and make stuff. It will be my undoing.

NEIL YOUNG SAYS MUSIC IS TAKING ITS TOLL ON HIM
by: Sterling Whitaker Yesterday

...
Larry Busacca, Getty Images For The Recording Academy)

Neil Young once famously sang, “It’s better to burn out than to fade away” in ‘My My, Hey Hey,’ but the 66-year-old rocker isn’t doing either one just yet – despite his admission that continuing his touring career is getting harder as he grows older.

In a new interview with New York Times magazine to promote his upcoming autobiography, ‘Waging Heavy Peace,’ Young admits that after years of reluctance to write a book about himself, he undertook the task for two reasons: because he needed the money, and because he needed something to do after he broke his toe last year. “I don’t think I’m going to be able to continue to mainly be a musician forever, because physically I think it’s going to take its toll on me — it’s already starting to show up here and there,” he acknowledges.

Young has suffered a host of physical maladies, including epilepsy, serious back problems and an aneurysm. That hasn’t yet prevented the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer from working, most recently with his on-again, off-again spiritual partners, Crazy Horse. “We’ve got two new albums, so we’re not an oldies act, and we’re relevant because we’re playing these new songs, so that gives us something to stand on,” he says.

The guitarist has often taken a hit-and-miss approach to his career, walking away from profitable partnerships for the sake of artistic exploration and blowing vast sums of money carelessly to satisfy seemingly random whims, but his manager, Elliot Roberts, says he simply doesn’t care. “He has no problem with failure as long as he is doing work he is happy with,” Roberts observes. “Whether it ends up as a win or loss on a consumer level is not as much of an interest to him as one might think.”

Among Young’s varied non-musical pursuits are an electric car (which he not only wants to develop, but he also hopes to make a movie about the car and then drive it to the White House) and a new technology called Pono, which provides high-quality digital audio in a readily downloadable format. Young has already gotten Warner Brothers to sign their catalog for Pono, and is negotiating with other companies before unveiling the new system publicly. But he isn’t ready to give up on writing and performing music; he will release a new album with Crazy Horse titled ‘Psychedelic Pill’ on Oct. 30.

“At 65, it seems that I may not be at the peak of my rock ’n’ roll powers,” the grizzled musician admits. “But that is not for sure.”

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef

Book Review: Neil Young's Wandering Journey Through the Past
'Waging Heavy Peace' is a memoir only Young could write: Honest, moving and kind of all over the place
...

By Simon Vozick-Levinson

Neil Young
Neil Young’s memoir, 'Waging Heavy Peace.'
Platon

Neil Young
Waging Heavy Peace: A Hippie Dream
Blue Rider Press
Four stars

"Generally the best feelings are the early takes," Neil Young remarks toward the end of his first ever memoir. "First or second takes, mostly." He's explaining his approach to recording with Crazy Horse, but he could just as easily be describing the loose, informal way he writes. Penned without a coauthor, Waging Heavy Peace often reads less like a traditional autobiography than a lively blog – full of casual asides, unpredictable tangents and open-ended questions as he looks back on his life at age 66.

Young appears to be setting down his memories in real time as they occur to him, touching in no particular order on his childhood in Ontario and Manitoba; his zig-zag path to stardom with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; a few failed relationships and one enduring marriage; assorted medical crises; and practically every car he's ever owned, among other subjects.

Young has never been one to linger on past glories, and career highs like the creation of On the Beach or "Ohio" tend to receive tantalizingly brief treatment before he wanders on to the next yarn. His free-associative riffing can feel a little repetitive when he launches into yet another chapter on digital sound quality – he sees cruddy MP3s as a crime against art – or restoring an old auto. Yet he can also be dryly hilarious, as when he feigns momentary confusion about who actually sang America's soundalike hit "A Horse With No Name": "Hey, wait a minute! Was that me? Okay. Fine. I am back now. That was close!"

By the book's final stretch, Young is in a somber mood, circling back with increasing frequency to the many friends and family members he's outlived. "Some folks think that is not a good thing to think about," he writes poignantly of death. "I envy the control they must have over their thinking processes. As you can tell, if you are still with me, I don't have much control over that." Young – who gave up booze and weed for the first time in decades before writing this book – is haunted by his late father's descent into dementia, and unsettled by the idea that he might end up the same way. "I am always getting scared that I will be in the middle of some long-winded story and forget what I'm talking about," he confesses, "and my secret that I am slowly losing my mind will be out."

Waging Heavy Peace shows that Young is still in full possession of that stubborn, brilliant, one-of-a-kind instrument. He doesn't always go exactly where you want him to, or stay long enough once he gets there, but did anyone really expect anything else? About the harshest criticism one could make is that he's already traced this story's outlines more eloquently, if less specifically, in timeless tunes from "Helpless" to "Harvest Moon." "I have been lucky and life has gifted me," Young writes. "I know who I am and what I've been part of . . . the music speaks when words can't."

Reading his book, it's a bit disjointed but at least it doesn't feel ghostwritten, I hear his voice speaking it in my head while I read it.

Sat the tour out, would have paid for a GA floor if he did the arena thing and not the Hollywood Bowl.

50 YEARS AGO – NEIL YOUNG PLAYS HIS FIRST PROFESSIONAL GIG
by Sterling Whitaker 10 hours ago

...
YouTube

Neil Young has enjoyed one of the most influential careers of any contemporary musician. His inimitable vocal and guitar styles and his sheer songwriting ability have earned him the respect of peers, critics and fans alike, but Young’s beginnings weren’t nearly as glorious. On Feb. 1, 1963, the 17-year-old aspiring musician reportedly went from the bedroom to the stage, playing his first professional gig at a country club in Winnipeg, as part of the group the Squires.

Born in 1945, by 1958 Young had already begun his musical journey, learning his chords on a ukelele his father had bought him. After his parents divorced, he settled with his mother in Winnipeg and formed his first band, the Jades, while a student there. That soon led to the Squires, who scored a local hit with a song titled ‘The Sultan.’

Young dropped out of high school and was soon working the folk club scene, where he first met Joni Mitchell. He also scored his first hit as a songwriter when the Guess Who took his song ‘Flying on the Ground is Wrong’ to the Top 40 in Canada. By 1966 Young was playing in a group called the Mynah Birds, which featured future ‘Super Freak’ star Rick James as its front man.

When that group disbanded, Young and its bass player, Bruce Palmer, decided to try their luck in Los Angeles — where Young later admitted he was living illegally until he got his green card in 1970. But that didn’t stop him and Palmer from joining with Stephen Stills, Ritchie Furay and Dewey Martin to form Buffalo Springfield, whose debut album in 1966 finally gave Young the commercial break he’d been looking for.

Once launched, Young never looked back, embarking on a celebrated solo career while also participating intermittently with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and working when the mood struck him with Crazy Horse. His musical restlessness has sometimes been nightmarish for record companies, but is also the main ingredient in a storied career driven by a singular, uncompromising musical vision.

New Steve Jobs Bio Claims He Hated Neil Young

by Jeff Giles March 25, 2015 11:46 AM

The public picture that’s been painted of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs is one of a brilliant entrepreneur with a distinctly ruthless streak, so it isn’t hard to imagine that he’d be annoyed by Neil Young‘s long crusade against the compressed audio that Apple’s iTunes store helped popularize.

According to the Daily Beast, that’s exactly what happened after Young went public with his distaste for lossy file formats. Quoting from the new biography Becoming Steve Jobs, which is written by Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli, the Beast offers a peek into how Jobs reacted after Young referred to iTunes’ audio as “compromised.”

“F— Neil Young, and f— his records,” Jobs reportedly fumed, claiming he was angry because Young had the nerve to “pop off in public like that without coming to talk to us about his technical concerns first.”

To his credit, Young didn’t just grouse about 21st century audio. He labored over his long-discussed Archives series for years before settling on Blu-ray as his preferred hi-res media format for the first volume, released as a 10-disc set in the summer of 2009 — and then he went a step further, lending his backing and approval to a heavily hyped, Kickstarter-backed high definition player dubbed the Pono.

In fact, after Jobs’ death in October 2011, Young claimed that toward the end of Jobs’ life, the two had been working together on an Apple device that could have made the Pono unnecessary. “Steve Jobs was a pioneer of digital music, but when he went home he listened to vinyl,” said Young. “I have to believe if he’d lived long enough, he would have tried to do what I’m trying to do.”

I looked into this....the price points are almost identical to what the Stones are charging. Having season tickets to the Pantages I always wonder why they don't have more concerts, but the theater is rarely dark.

Here's a nice recording of Neil's "secret" gig in San Luis Obispo the other night!

http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=117383

Neil Young
SLO Brewing Company
San Luis Obispo, CA
April 16, 2015

Recorded by Whiskeyrecordings

Source: Zoom H1 w/internal mics (16/44.1) > CD Trade

Transfer Lineage:
CD-R > Soundforge 9.0 > WAV > TLH (Sector Boundary aligned) Flac level 6

Balanced, Edited and Tracked by kingrue upload 463

==================================================================

Neil Young performed a secret show with Willie Nelson’s sons last Thursday night, with just over 450 in attendance.

Neil performed many new songs, giving the crowd a taste of what's to come.

Basically testing out material for the new Album and Tour that will be coming later this year.

For the first set, the Zoom recorder malfunctioned and only recorded onto the left channel.

I copied the left channel into the right channel. Tracks 1 - 6 are now 2 channel mono.

The remainder of the recording is 2 channel stereo.

Neil starts set 2 with 'Walk On', but it wasn't recorded. This starts abruptly into 'Monsanto Years'.

A big thanks goes to the taper who had just enough time and was close enough to rush over and buy a ticket and record it.

Sending his recording over my way for editing and uploading.

This is the first and maybe only source for this secret gig.

Neil was backed by The Nelson Brothers and other members of Willie Nelson's band.

Today I listened to the latest Neil Young album, and I ended up with playing "Workin' man" 20 times in a row. What an absolute great protestrocker this is. Has been a long time that I've enjoyed a new Neil track this much. Wether you agree with the lyrics or not (I do), this is a must have!

Bought it today and listening to it, now.

Feared the worst as his other eco-obsessed themed albums in recent years were either at best patchy (Greendale) or utterly unlistenable (Fork in The Road - which I played once. Worst album he's ever made)

On first listen, this isnt a classic and a lot of the references are a bit over my head, but its certainly a bloody good album. The Promise Of The Real are a terrific backing band for him.

Would love to catch a live show. But as usual, very spotty tour schedule. Looks like Colorado,is the closest he'll be to be. Other than the Bridge School Shows. Which I have no interest in.

Great show last night. He could cut down on all the Monsanto shit. but at least he didn't go full blown Walking To Greendale on us. Neil was very talkative. But his best line was when he fucked up the start of Only Love Can Break you Heart. Twice. Then he realized he was in the wrong key and had the wrong guitar. So he turns to his band and says "I love these kids. They remember my songs."  Blank Frigging Stare

2015-10-10, Santa Barbara Bowl, Santa Barbara, California, USA
w/ Promise Of The Real
1.      After The Gold Rush
2.      My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue)
3.      Helpless
4.      Mother Earth (Natural Anthem)
5.      Hold Back The Tears
6.      Out On The Weekend
7.      Human Highway
8.      Unknown Legend
9.      Only Love Can Break Your Heart
10.      Wolf Moon
11.      Words
12.      Winterlong
13.      Alabama
14.      September Song
15.      A Rock Star Bucks A Coffee Shop
16.      People Want To Hear About Love
17.      Big Box
18.      Monsanto Years

Just got the new archives album in the mail today and its a gem from a period of live shows that I really like and have been looking forward to getting an official release.

Its stunning that of the songs included on this CD, only 'Tonights the Night' had been ever released or performed before this tour. A few songs were released on later albums (Crime in the City, Ordinary People) but incredibly seven of them remained unreleased officially until now.

...

Here's a preview from last month :

The next album in Neil Young‘s performance series will focus on music from his raucous, R&B-focused 1988 tour. Due on Nov. 13 in both two-CD and four-vinyl LP formats, Bluenote Cafe finds Young working with a new band that included familiar collaborators like Frank Sampedro, Rick Rosas, Ralph Molina and Ben Keith.

They make impassioned runs through cuts from Young’s This Note’s for You album, which was released in 1988, seven previously unreleased songs (“Soul of a Woman,” “Bad News Comes to Town,” Ain’t it the Truth,” “I’m Goin’,” “Crime of the Heart,” “Doghouse” and “Fool for Your Love”) and a titanic, nearly 20-minute exploration of “Tonight’s the Night” to close things out.

All pre-orders will receive an instant download of “Crime in the City,” which later appeared on 1989’s Freedom. A complete track listing is below.

Most of the songs on Bluenote Cafe were plucked from live performances at the World in New York on April 18, 1988, Cleveland’s Agora Ballroom from Aug. 23 and Pier 84 in New York on Aug. 30. There are also a few songs originally performed at the Fillmore in San Francisco, CNE in Toronto and the Palace in Hollywood, among others.

Neil Young, ‘Bluenote Cafe’ Track Listing
Disc 1
“Welcome to the Big Room”
“Don’t Take Your Love Away From Me”
“This Note’s For You”
“Ten Men Workin'”
“Life in the City”
“Hello Lonely Woman”
“Soul of a Woman”
“Married Man”
“Bad News Comes to Town”
“Ain’t It the Truth”
“One Thing”
“Twilight”
Disc 2

“What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there,” he says. “All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy. There’s an enormous market for people who can’t tell one note from another.” - Keef

Wow, never heard that one before Mojo. Neil has come a long way since 73.

Belfast on Tuesday was not only the best Neil Young show I've ever seen, but one of the best gigs I've ever attended by anyone.

Three stunning hours. What a band.

Nearly went to the Dublin show 24 hours later at the last minute but as I have a few trips coming up including the Euro 2016 tournament in France next week, I decided not to.

The show is now available on dime, as are the other two European dates so far - Glasgow and Dublin.

The Daily Mail for some reason are absolutely obsessed with this relationship and post paparazzi shots of them every couple of weeks, it would appear.

No one else seems to be.

Its quite bizarre because until they hooked up two years ago I doubt this 'paper' ever ran a story on either of them.

didnt think i would make this one but my hunger to see another set by neil w the promise couldnt stop me and the wife from driving almost a three hundred mile round trip in a day. the forecast was for thunderstorms and we didnt even have tickets but we headed out. we got to the box office and there was no power which meant no tix. wtf. half an hour passed maybe more finally the generator cranks and computer comes back up and just before neil starts up we get in.  not expecting a huge set like last year but the half we got was priceless. the wifey loved it even without the actual harvest moon making an appearance. maybe no deep cuts but satisfying. was hoping for lengthy cowgirl to end the show with just thirty minutes to go but we got eleven minutes and a 15 plus cortez. been a few years since i have seen willie but he still is a force of nature. some sweet playing. thanks

sadly due to the late entry i missed saint sway CRB pre-show roast
