THANKS FOR POSTING!  Tower Theatre in PA, but no mention of the NY venue on TM yet! It wont be a club show in NY so Philly looks promising depending on ticket prices. Neil puts on a really powerful show every time.

Hard to believe it's now coming up on eight years since they last toured together (I think the Greendale tour was the last, wasnt it)

To be honest, the best gigs I've ever seen him do were the two 'Chrome Dreams' shows at Manchester Apollo three years ago this week. An acoustic set, followed by a set with the band after the interval.

He was onstage for two and three quarter hours each night. Love Crazy Horse, but I thought the band he toured with in recent years was more diverse. Unfortunately, Ben Keith has since died and I think he's alluded to not playing many of those songs again.

Neil Young Unearths 1984 Live Album, A Treasure, Recorded with Legendary Band, The International Harvesters

"I love this record," Young says. "I hadn't heard these takes in 25 years, but when we unearthed them co-producer Ben Keith said, 'This is a treasure.'" Part of what makes A Treasure so compelling is the musical contributions of The International Harvesters, with whom Young was playing at the time.

This 12-track live album includes songs recorded during Young's 1984 U.S. tour in support of his album Old Ways and contains six previously unreleased tracks. A Treasure features Young's onstage work with some of the greatest artists in the history of country music, including the late, great Ben Keith on steel and slide guitar and Rufus Thibodeaux on fiddle, along with living legends Spooner Oldham and Hargus "Pig" Robbins on piano, Tim Drummond and Joe Allen on bass, and Karl Himmel on drums, among many others.

Exclusive pre-order bundles are available today.

His work with the Harvesters was pretty damned good (much better than the Old Ways *2* that came out at that time, which is just unlistenable). I'm looking forward to this!

Saying the tour was 'in support of 'Old Ways' is a bit misleading, as that album didnt come out until August 1985.

It's a bit hit and miss, but always was worth getting for 'Misfits' alone. Jimmy McDonough who wrote 'Shakey' was right when he said it was Neil's best song of the 80's.

In typical Neil fashion, he was on tour playing loads of (then) unreleased songs.

Here are the setlists from 1984 -
http://www.sugarmtn.org/year.php?year=1984 - the International Harvesters tour ran from late August to October.

He was even playing 'Razor Love' - 15 years before he released it on a studio album! (Silver & Gold)

No wonder Geffen were going mad at the stuff he was putting out back then. Each album bore no musical resemblance to the one that preceded it. Didnt they try and sue him for making uncommercial records that weren't 'characteristic of his previous recordings' ? A move that cost Geffen dearly in reputation and income as it ended up dissuading other acts from signing for them (namely REM) fearing label interference.

Strange that this seems to be a 'standalone' release and there's been no mention of it being part of the 'Archives' series.

We saw the Buffalo Springfield reunion at last years Bridge School benefit, while it was great to see Richie Furray on the same stage with Neil and Shephen the music wasn't anything great as far as I'm concerned!

Buffalo Springfield Launch First Tour in 43 Years

"Thank you, we're Buffalo Springfield," Neil Young announced early in the band's June 1st show at the Fox Theater in Oakland, the opening date of the Springfield's first tour since the spring of 1968. "We're from the past," Young added drily.

They were not – he could have added without fear of contradiction – stuck in it. For nearly two hours, in a performance comprised almost entirely of songs from nearly half a century ago, Buffalo Springfield's surviving members and original vocal-songwriting front line – Young and singer-guitarists Stephen Stills and Richie Furay – played like a band genuinely reborn: thrilled to be on stage again, determined not to let their songs or legacy down. There was jubilant fraternity in the close-harmony singing, especially by Young and Furay in the soft vocal rain at the end of "On the Way Home" and their gleaming Morse-code flourishes behind Stills' grainy tenor in "Rock and Roll Woman."

Photos: Buffalo Springfield Kick Off Their Reunion Tour

There was also nerve. After a 14-song set that veered from "Hot Dusty Roads" and "Everybody's Wrong," a pair of gritty Stills numbers from deep inside the 1966 debut LP, Buffalo Springfield, to Furay's great lost ballad "Sad Memory" from 1967's Buffalo Springfield Again, Young opened the encore by leading the group through "Broken Arrow," his epic frontier daydream at the end of Again. A complex studio creation, it was recorded by Young as a solo piece, with session men, and never performed live in the Springfield's first lifetime. Tonight, the song featured Stills at the piano, Furay flying next to Young in the chorus harmonies and its original honky-tonk country coda. This was more than exciting resurrection – it was a kind of justice, the way the Springfield would have played and recorded Young's suite if they hadn't been so busy falling apart at the time.

Choose Rolling Stone's Cover: The Sheepdogs vs. Lelia Broussard. Vote Now

Formed in the spring of 1966, Buffalo Springfield played their last show in May, 1968 in Long Beach, California. In between, they were one of the most gifted and fractious bands of their day, ultimately better known for their precedents – like the strong early whiff of country in their rock – and aftermaths: Crosby Stills and Nash; Furay's great twang-rock band Poco; Young's solo triumphs and eccentricities. The original Springfield, with bassist Bruce Palmer (who died in 2004) and drummer Dewey Martin (who passed away in 2009), made only one album, 1966's Buffalo Springfield, before tensions set in and Young started his comings and goings. Again and 1968's Last Time Around were more like anthologies, comprised of songs made by versions of the group, depending on who wrote the song and led the session.

I'll admit, as a Springfieldophile (that is totally a thing), that it's always rather nnoying that people assume Neil did "Broken Arrow" without the band. In fact, every original member of the grouo plays on that one, as it was recorded in September of '67, well after Neil had left/returned to the group (and, during that time, recorded Expecting to Fly, which DID involve only session musicians).

From the Buffalo Springfield boxed set liner notes, the recording info for "Broken Arrow":

Neil Young: Guitar, vocal
Richie Furay: Guitar, background vocal
Stehpehn Stills: Guitar
Chris Sarns: Guitar
Don Randi: Piano, organ
Bruce Palmer: Bass
Dewey Martin: Drums, vocal
Also: Strings
(Jazz theme [at the end of the song]:
Don Randi: Piano
Jim Horn: Clarint
Hal Blaine: Drums
Harvey Newmark: Bass)

So, a couple of session guys helping out, yes, but full-on without the Springfield? Hardly. I mean, was Richie's distinct harmony vocal in that song not enough to convince anyone?

Anyway, end Springfield rant. Don't suck my cock
