Although, it's not as bad as the singer who ordered his assistant to remove all the seeds from his watermelon!

VAN HALEN - NEW ALBUM RUMOUR ROUND-UP:
Dear rabid Van Halen fans - if you are looking for a factually infallible, dead on, "here are the facts" news update....this ain't it!
But seriously, a news report that does fit that description isn't far away as David Lee Roth tells us to "Get Ready..." (www.davidleeroth.com) and Van Halen actually open up a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/VanHalen). And Alter Bridge/Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti (friend of Wolfgang) starts yakking after sitting in on the trio of Van Halen's playing new songs live in the studio - reporting back that the band used ''old demos for inspiration for new material" (www.vhlinks.com/vbforums/mark-tremonti-new-t52379.html).
Plus the band are also hitting to road for the first time since 2007 with dates in Australia in 10 weeks' time. So we know something's happening right?
Right! But when are we going to really hear something official and when will we hear the first new Van Halen material since 2004 and the first new album with David Lee Roth since 1983? Soon folks....

What we know is that the album is done and mixed...John Shanks finishing production work on it earlier this year (with other producer names likely to appear inside the album credits.) The rumoured album title is VH '11, 2011 (or Two Zero One One to be precise) and all rumours point to a mid/late September release.
A single was again rumoured to hit airwaves this weekend, but failed to happen.
What I have previously stated is that I personally believe the new album will be released in October, after Van Halen return home from Australia and a single could likely appear late this month or in August.

I am hoping to have some more precise information from a source close to official goings on later this week. Stay tuned...

But in the meantime, I was contacted last week by an anonymous source with a summary of rumours and "inside" information they happened to be privy to. Ok....due to the demand from fans wanting to hear about anything Van Halen related to keep them busy while counting down the seconds to hell freezing over (the new album appearing in store), here is a summary of the information I was sent.
This is certainly not being printed as gospel or fact, but merely as yet another in the series of much loved Van Halen Rumor Reports that have been printed over the last decade of this band's colourful history. So with that disclaimer in place....here goes folks....

RUMOUR ROUND UP!

- Eddie Van Halen was apparently prepared to tour again with no new album, reluctant to produce new songs. David Lee Roth and especially Wolfgang Van Halen wanted to record new tracks. Wolfgang Van Halen finally convinced his father that he didn't want to go out on tour to replace Michael Anthony, with no new material and without David Lee Roth's input.

- It is suggested that the music was the main thing in EVH's mind and David Lee Roth was asked only to contribute lyrics.

- Seventeen songs were prepared in demo form. One was an instrumental. Fourteen songs were properly recorded. This includes the instrumental. A couple of tracks are likely to be held over as bonus tracks for various uses. Management are currently negotiating with specialist retailers for a deal to release the album, with these bonus tracks possible to make an appearance if an agreement is reached.
- Because of distributing/promotion matters, the release date of first single is still up in the air, although it will (apparently) 'definitely' happen no later than 2nd week of August. The album is expected to be ready to ship in September. [I still say October...].
- Only two tracks feature keyboards of any type. One is the instrumental which briefly features piano. The other features keyboards in the intro, and 'lightly' in the chorus.

- Although Wolfang Van Halen did not write any of the lyrics to the new album, he had a bass solo he was preparing that he titled "Hurricanes", for which David Lee Roth wrote lyrics with the same working title. It is unclear if this song will be included on the album, but it was recorded in demo-form.

- The album title has not been chosen at this point. Many rumours have surfaced... Two likely working titles may be in the running which are "VH '11" and "Two Zero One One". Rumored titles that have not been officially dismissed by band members however are "Mammoth" and "Play".
This information has surfaced because of proposed artwork for the new album which at this point features a brown circle on a glass table with a silver and red Van Halen logo emblazoned upon it (the circle which looks like an M&M). There is a rumour that the brown circle is supposed to represent both the "Brown Sound" of Van Halen and also the infamous M&M chocolate candy contract rider of years past. The proposed artwork does not show all edges of the circle due to a possible 'infringement' with the candy-maker. Rather the outer edges of the circle are 'cut-off' by the square-edged artwork. The reverse side of the album jacket features all four members standing by a garden like area shot in a sepia tone. This photo and others were taken in May on the grounds of Edward Van Halen's studio, 5150. Inner booklet/lyric sheets photos were also shot in and around 5150. [Not sure about this folks...but I guess we'll know soon enough...]

- Two songs recorded have been selected as singles. One song sounding like an early era Van Halen combination of "Beautiful Girls/Jamie's Crying", and the other song sounding more in the vein of "Unchained"/"Drop Dead Legs" (this one features a very lengthy guitar solo by comparison).

- Although no song titles are 'confirmed' at this point, some of the 'working' song titles were/are: "Hurricanes", "Stop Talking" (which is one of the possible first two singles), "Down This Road", and "Who's Looking Back At You?". Other titles have been mentioned, only these four keep resurfacing.

Get Ready ...

VAN HALEN - ALBUM & SINGLE STILL COMING; WORLD TOUR BEING BOOKED:
Welcome to Monday folks... My last Van Halen update was rumours and gossip, but this time around I have some Van Halen FACTS for you. Well...as factual as anything ever gets in VanHalenLand, delivered by a known and trusted source close to ground zero - who, up until this point hasn't had any info at all, as they are not in the habit of delivering rumours to me. Let's go...

- The new Van Halen studio album has NO release date at this point as it is not yet 100% finished. Yep...they are still working on completing it. John Shanks did his bit and now Ross Hogarth, after working with the band in 2010 is back at 5150 to finish the job. There is a single imminent however, but again a date for that arriving at radio or retail is also not yet firm. I'm told "they" are still working on a final mix for the single.
As for a date for the album - I have said all along my money is on October. I'm sticking to that, but with this info, I'd say late October now. No way will the album drop while the band are in Australia and it is desired to have the album out by November because...
- Van Halen's US tour will commence in NOVEMBER!
- Van Halen's 2011/2012 tour will commence in November and I'm told it is likely that the band will stay on the road thru the next Northern summer (mid-2012) with the tour taking in Asia, South America and Europe (watch for the band to possibly headline some festivals in Europe 2012).

That's it for now folks.....short, but concise. Work continues on this album and a single might appear next month. Tour plans are being locked in for a sizeable world tour starting in Australia in September then re-launching in the US in November.

Speaking of the Australian dates coming up, the guy in charge of the Soundwave Festival here in Oz (A.J.) that Van Halen will headline has voiced some frustration at dealing with the band over these dates. On his Twitter account (twitter.com/#!/iamnotshouting) the following two messages:
- "I must say, for one of the world's biggest bands, Van Halen are surrounded by idiots." and "2 months after announcement still can't get the dates on their site despite daily promises...".

The following is Nuno Bettencourt’s contribution in the book:

I’m writing this on January 19, 2011, some thirty-three years after the Shock Heard Around the World. I’m referring of course to Van Halen.

Earlier today I was at Henson Studios—the old Charlie Chaplin movie lot—to do a writing session in the mixing room. As I was about to enter the room, my ears demanded that my feet stop in their tracks. What caused me to stop was a familiar sound from the room across the hall. This sound was desperately trying to break through the double-thick walls of the studio.

It was faint, but even so, there was no mistaking the power of the sound that was seeping through those walls, because there can only be one Edward.

I looked around to make sure no one was around, and then walked over and put my ear to the wall. I closed my eyes and listened intensely, and between the vibration and what I actually heard—poof!—I was transformed from forty-four to fourteen years old. Then, for the next three minutes, like a burst of electricity running through me, I saw and heard the soundtrack of my life flash before me. Back to the minute I walked into my brother’s room and heard “Running with the Devil” for the first time and I froze, staring at the record player with my mouth open like I was seeing porn for the first time, trying to comprehend what I was hearing. If that wasn’t scary enough, my brother then played another track, which opened with the thunder of the greatest, most individual and under-celebrated drummer in the world, King Alex Van Halen: PaDaLaBum PaDaLaBum . . . “Eruption!” At that point I looked at my brother and asked if we were being invaded by aliens, and what planet Edward Van Halen was from.

We’ve only had a handful of legendary guitarists whose styles were influential from the moment they hit the scene. Eddie not only had a groundbreaking style and sound, but as Van Halen’s discography shows, he and the band went on to make great and important music throughout their career.

Edward is a not only a great guitarist, he is a true genius and innovator. Like the legendary guitarists before him, he brought guitar to a new level, but unlike them, he reinvented the guitar one album after the other. It was fucking mind-boggling to listen to each new record. How could this be? We figured, Okay, Ed, you did it! “Atomic Punk,” “I’m the One,” et cetera, on Van Halen were improbable enough. Then what? He fucking did it again with Van Halen II! “Spanish Fly,” “Somebody Get Me a Doctor,” and “Outta Love Again.” Then on Women and Children First there’s “Everybody Wants Some,” “Take Your Whiskey Home,” “Loss of Control,” . . . and then came my favorite VH album, Fair Warning! I thought, It’s four albums in, he’s definitely gonna start repeating himself. Drop the needle . . . and . . . wait for it . . . it’s fading in . . . no fucking way . . . “Mean Streets”! This guy is not human. Then “Unchained”?! I was convinced now that he really was an alien from another planet. And the list goes on: “Cathedral,” “Little Guitars,” “Hot for Teacher,” “Top Jimmy.” The reinvention and innovation was relentless, and goes on till today.

What’s even more incredible is that he did this without ever doing a long-winded, “look at me” instrumental solo record; he did it while being one of the tastiest rhythm players around, and while still serving the most important part, the Song.

I ran into Edward an hour later in the hallway, and after receiving a hello and a warm hug from the man who changed the world, I asked, “How’s it coming along in there?” And Ed said, “It’s cool. . . . I’m a little nervous, though.” I said, “Nervous? You!? Eddie Van? The Master? Do you have any idea what you have done? The gifts you have given us for over thirty years? You single-handedly changed the history of how we play guitar!” And with that grin that we have been seeing on Eddie’s face for as long as we can remember, he looked me in the eye and said, “I know . . . why do you think I’m nervous?” Then he walked off like John Wayne, straight back into the studio.

—Nuno Bettencourt

Local radio DJ says quotes "Wow" and "Whoa, wait until you hear it".

First time local DJ's have said anything about the new album on the air. The DJ said he is friends with one of Dave's old producers and the "engineer" working on it right now. He said the producer said one word "Wow", and that the "Engineer" said "Whoa, wait until you hear it."

No names dropped, no other details really, but had just come off playing "Little Guitars" and laid this bomb. Said these people he both knows personal like and that was their comments.

Take it for what it is worth. Not researching or saying name of the station and I have nothing to do with any of it. Lol, just what I heard less than 20 munites ago on the radio.

Roth Army- gearing up for deployment.

Step Aside

1 Close Encounter - Loud, rude, offensive to untrained ears, this should have been on 'Back to the Future'. Remember to make sure your speakers are insured for this one. On the guitar solo it sounds like an amp blew up in the studio.
2 January - Instrumental - sounds like keyboards in places, but could all be guitar.
3 Stop Talking/Just Drive - This is the track that Sammy Hagar wishes he could have recorded with Van Halen. This will answer which Van Halen was best. And this is the one the radio stations are gonna play forever.
4 Two Zero One One - Think Cabo Wabo meets Yankee Rose.
5 Get Me Roy Scheider - Song about a girl and a shark and the longest one one the record at 6.19. All the rest are around 4 mins or under. Clever play on the Jaws theme. Epic finish.
6 Angel Eyes - Outstanding arrangement on acoustic guitars.
7 Hurricanes - Bass, Bass and more Bass. Vocals are killer on this track. Lead guitar and drums join in on chorus.
8 Next - Short, fat and sweet.
9 Who’s Looking Back Now? - Retrospective on past times. A song with two halves.
10 Woman Kind - The Van Halen party band is back and in full swing.
11 Sex and Travel - Starts off with what sounds like a truck going up through its gears and joined with a screeching sound probably from a guitar. About life in a rock group on the road. Loads of references to the 70's.
12 Down This Road - This is the surprise track. A slow jazz number. Van Halen grows up and it suits Dave perfectly.

I must say, I am intrigued.... Where did you get this from?

Same source as always. She's my only source in fact. I've known her for years and trust her implicitly. She's not a Van Halen fan herself, just knows I'm really into them. It's her partner that has the connection and that's why it's been so legit.

At first I was told that these were outtakes going back to 2001 or thereabouts, but its started to filter through that this is the new record. The title has been changed numerous times and the artwork too, cause of some sort of legal issue. And I think this is where the original confusion arose as to the records proper context.

I now understand that it was to be called 'two zero one one', but it's release date was put back again and by 2012, would have sounded dated. Also they wanted something that acknowledges that DLR was stepping back in to his original role.

They have been playing the record through all sorts of sound systems, cause apparently the first track keeps blowing speakers. This has lead to some concern over whether it should be re-mastered, but apparently it has been left in it's original form and will be shipped with a warning sticker on the front cover and a disclaimer for downloads.

CHICKENFOOT, the supergroup featuring former VAN HALEN members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, will release its sophomore effort, "Chickenfoot III", on September 27. VAN HALEN is also rumored to be releasing a new album this fall.

Speaking to VH1 Radio Networks' Dave Basner, Michael said, "I know people, from the fans and the critics, they'll all be doing the heavy comparison thing and you know what, I'd be lying if I didn't say, 'Yeah, sure I'm interested to hear what a new album, you know, what they got happening.' But I'm very proud of what we've done and I don't mind at all. They can put their album out before, after, or on the same day. They want to go out on tour, we'll open up for them, I don't care. [laughs]"

Anthony hasn't spoken to any of the members of VAN HALEN since the end of the band's 2004 tour. He said earlier this year, "The tour did not end as harmoniously as we would have liked it to and it probably should have gone on longer than it did." Still, Anthony wouldn't be against having his band CHICKENFOOT open for VAN HALEN should they go on tour — "I got no problem with that," he said.

Well hold on to your seats for this one...

Wolfgang, apart from being a great multi-musician, is also a committed conspiracist. He apparently believes that the split in the Classic Van Halen line up in 1985 and the subsequent enlisting of Sammy into the group was no accident.

I haven't got the full story, cause from what I've been told so far it seems very complicated and almost runs as a parallel history to what we all know, or what we’ve been lead to believe.

Now conspiracy theories are very complex and numerous. The gist of this one is intertwined in a very developed theory. I am not that familiar with it all, so please research it if your so inclined. The crux of it is that some sort of alien species, a form of lizard, hundreds of thousands of years ago visited earth and mated with early humans, thus creating Homo sapiens. The world has always been run by the lizard aliens, as tribal leaders, Pharaohs, Kings, Queens, Prime Ministers and Presidents. Whatever your opinion, and mine, these conspiracy theories exist.

How does this affect Van Halen?

Now this I personally cannot get my head around. But this is the theory....

Sammy is an alien lizard. He is a part of the ruling lizard family, same as Bush, Clintons, the Queen etc. and he's worth billions. The whole cantina and tequila thing is a front and only accounts for 100 million or so. Sammy's life as a singer is a front. The Van Halen brothers were somehow brainwashed in 1985. The whole process left Ed in what appeared to the rest of the world, to be in some sort of intoxicated, substance induced zombie like existence. The experience turned Alex to God. (There’s more on this due to religion being part of the conspiracy).

Using powerful contacts, Dave was removed from Van Halen, mainly by being enticed to a movie deal with a movie company that was then canned, but which also included a soundtrack.

Keeping up with this?

Sammy then moves in. All the other auditions were apparently set up to fail. 5150's re-recorded with Sammy's vocals, and they tour. Tents are positioned below the stage which allows some sort of sexual rights for alien lizards with Homo sapiens.

Apparently there’s loads of this and what I've shown you is just a quick summary.

How does Dave fit in?

Dave's no lizard or alien. He's an ancient form of Homo sapien warrior in the modern era.

Wolfgang believes to free Van Halen from the alien lizards, he has to reunite the Classic Van Halen line up. That requires the repatriation of Michael Anthony.

That's what I've heard so far. Make of it what you wish. But I implore you to not shoot the messenger.

This is all sounding great.

He really needs to get a life Nellie. Besides VH should open for Chickenfoot. Not the other way around.

I'm not bashful to say I'm looking forward to new VH.
Hey, they have done what most rock bands have done.
Many bands have received multiple chances.
Bring it.

Wednesday, 10 August 2011 Here’s a quick update on the latest news  about the upcoming Van Halen album and tour.

1) AUSTRALIAN SHOWS, ALBUM, TOUR: MelodicRock has this update today:

A Van Halen and Soundwave Revolution Festival update for you. I’m hearing from one of my sources connected to the band that Van Halen did NOT pull out of the Soundwave Festival and had things gone ahead as planned, the band was 100% ready to appear as publicised. I have no reason to doubt this info, but I will state that I find it puzzling and somewhat disappointing there is no “official” word or statement from the band.

I am also told that there are now no plans for Van Halen to tour Australia. That’s 2011/2012 folks….no plans at all. 13 years since their first tour and now nothing. I’m hearing that the US tour remains in planning to commence in November and the studio album is due by that time.

I also hear that the band are looking for European Festival appearances for summer 2012, not necessarily any standalone dates for that region.

2) ALL IS GOOD: We hear that all is good and that everyone in the band is doing great and that they are still working on mixing the album and planning the tour.

3) ROTH: The “Get Ready” message is back on DavidLeeRoth.com.

4) MORE from Tremonti: By now, everyone’s heard Mark Tremonti claim that new music sounds like “old school Van Halen.” This week, GuitarInternational asked him about hearing it:

Rob: Wow. From what I read it sounds like old school Van Halen.

Mark Tremonti: Yeah, it does. I haven’t heard a single vocal on it yet,
but it definitely had the juice, it was great.

Rob: Was it like Van Halen 1, Van Halen 2, Fair Warning era?

Mark Tremonti: I think it was a mixture of it all. It wasn’t all edgy and
dark like Fair Warning; it was a mixture, somewhere in the middle.

5) VALERIE’S COMMENT: Just to show how little info is getting leaked out of the Van Halen camp these days, the following little request came from none other than Eddie Van Halen ‘s ex and Wolfgang’s mom, Valerie Bertinelli. Last week Valerie tweeted, “Who do I have to give birth to to get a copy of the new Van Halen record!?”

Soundwave Revolution Cancelled Because Of Aerosmith Backing Out & Lagging Ticket Sales
Tuesday, 9 August 2011 When it was announced that the Soundwave Revolution festival in Australia was cancelled yesterday, some fans were quick to blame Van Halen, assuming that they must have pulled out of the festival. The truth is, Van Halen DID NOT pull out of Soundwave Revolution, and had nothing to do with the festival being cancelled.

The promoter had been planning on securing one or two additional headliners, which he was unable to do. Triple M in Australia revealed today that AEROSMITH was the unannounced second headliner that pulled out of the festival. Between Aerosmith backing out, and lagging ticket sales, the promoter decided to cancel the festival.
