vh-1 classic has just reported a new van halen album due out in january with roth at the helm...to be titled "BOLD".

Reports filter through that a new Van Halen album, with David Lee Roth on vocals, is almost finished.

We remain forever hopeful that Eddie and Dave kill each other before they finish.

VAN HALEN - 2011 STILL SHAPING UP FOR A BIG YEAR:
Let's great straight to it - it's been quiet in the Van Halen camp since a wave of expectation and excitement broke following news leaks a few months back regarding a possible new album and tour for 2011.
The Tour: The band will tour extensively in 2011, taking in North America, likely European dates and even some Australian dates, which local newspaper the Herald Sun stated Sunday - [VH] "...are very close to confirming an Oz visit next year..."
The line-up will remain as it was for the 2007 tour - Eddie, Alex, Wolfgang and David Lee Roth.

The New Album: Numerous reports about new music coming from the band are true. There is new music recorded with the expectation of an all-new studio album featuring David Lee Roth to be released in 2011. What is not known right now is the time frame for this.
Here is what I was told. It seems DLR's vocals are being recorded away from the 5150 studio, with Eddie receiving various vocal tracks from the singer, but not always to the guitarist's satisfaction. I'm told that it's work in progress between Eddie and Dave.
I also heard, but cannot confirm, that Eddie has recorded most of the bass parts for the album.

There is a deal in place between Warner Bros. and the band for a new album (as announced a few months back). However, I'm told there is a genuine fear from the label that the album may now not be ready before tour commitments begin. The album was definitely expected to be released in early 2011, but there has been so much going back and forth and re-arranging, so if the recordings are not turned in by early 2011, the label have developed a contingency plan.
That is preparing re-masters of the Sammy Hagar era catalogue (curious decision perhaps, but the only albums left to do), as well as preparing Blue-Ray releases of Live Without a Net and Live Right Here Right Now so at least there is something on the market when the band tours.
Additionally they are preparing limited edition Vinyl releases, which have just appeared on the Rhino/Warner schedule. 1984, Women And Children First and Van Halen II will be released on LP December 13.

And to close - the band apparently tested a few different producers, but the man at the helm for this album is one Ross Hogarth. Go look him up. His website makes no mention of any work with Van Halen, but in July he did make one reference to a new record he was starting. He stated: "The record I just started ROCKS!!! [it] will be amazing...that is all I will say..."

Stay tuned as always...more soon.

The following breaking news is sure to come as a welcome Holiday gift for Van Halen fans around the world who’ve been dying to know if the band is planning on releasing new music or touring in the near future.

Sources tell the Van Halen News Desk that the band is very eager to tour, and that they want to tour behind new material. Eddie Van Halen has been very busy during most of 2010 writing music. Alex and Wolfgang Van Halen often join Eddie in the 5150 studio and the three of them have been hard at work jamming and recording demos. The three Van Halens have been sending the music to David Lee Roth, who’s adding the lyrics. Two of our sources have heard some of the early versions of the tracks (without vocals) and were very pleased. The music is said to sound like straight ahead rock ‘n’ roll and “very Van Halen.”

After talking to several producers, the band has chosen GRAMMY award winner producer/songwriter/musician John Shanks (whom Clive Davis calls “the father of that guitar-driven kind of pop sound”). In January, 2011, David, Eddie, Alex & Wolfgang will head into the studio to begin recording with the much sought-after producer. The band is hopeful that the recording sessions will lead to a full studio album that would be completed and available sometime next year.

Interestingly, the band is planning on recording in John Shank’s Henson Studio as well as Van Halen’s 5150 Studios, making next month the first time Van Halen will record anywhere outside of their own studio since it was built, in 1983.

We are excited to learn that the band is re-exploring Eddie’s extensive library of unreleased songs and riffs, even reaching back to their early unreleased demos for added inspiration. The band is retooling and tweaking some of this mostly-unheard, incredible music, which have completely new lyrics from Roth. Eddie is even considering developing a song or two from the material that he wrote for The Wild Life movie score in the mid 1980′s.

Although this news is not coming straight from the band or their publicist, we can tell you with certainty that it isn’t just another rumor that will turn out to be false, as most rumors do. These are indeed Van Halen’s current goals. We at the Van Halen News Desk have several reliable sources close to, or within the Van Halen camp, who give us solid Van Halen updates whenever they make any major plans. Our relationships with these contacts were established during the years of our publishing the official Van Halen fan magazine, “The Inside”, and through our associations while running VHND.com and VanHalenStore.com.

We want to clarify that, while this news sounds very promising for fans, NOTHING is set in stone as far as a definite album or tour. The band is hoping to have a new album and tour, but only time will tell if it all comes to fruition. There is no timetable for anything yet.

Despite their grand plans, it is very unlikely that there will be any confirmation from Van Halen themselves about any of this. The band has a definite policy of not talking until their plans are 100% solid and everything is in place. They don’t want to announce any plans that might not pan out, so as to not disappoint fans.

A source close to David Lee Roth tells us that he’s been getting in top physical shape for the potential tour and has been writings tons of lyrics.

We also have another source who’s spent some time with Eddie Van Halen recently. Ed seems to be doing better than ever these days. He’s been completely sober for over 2 1/2 years. He has surrounding himself with positive, encouraging people, among them his wife Janie, bandmates Alex and Wolfgang, and friend and business partner, Matt Bruck. His schedule is early to bed, early to rise, and he’s keeping very focused on staying sober, writing new music and running his EVH brand. We are really happy to hear he’s in a wonderful place these days.

More about Van Halen producer John Shanks:
John Shanks is one of the hottest and most influential producers working today. On top of that, he is a hit songwriter and accomplished guitar player. John has produced and/or written 43 #1 singles, 119 Top 5 singles, 67 #1 albums, 172 Top 10 albums, and over 60 million records sold in the genres of Rock, Pop and Country music. He is also a six time GRAMMY nominee including a win for Producer of the Year in 2005. “John’s records have become the sound of Top Forty Radio,” Clive Davis told Rolling Stone. “He’s the father of that guitar-driven kind of pop sound.”

John Shanks has worked with Miley Cyrus, Bon Jovi, Keith Urban, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Sheryl Crow, Santana, Rod Stewart, Melissa Etheridge, Alanis Morissette, Hilary Duff, Train’s Pat Monahan, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Pink, Liz Phair, Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, Joe Cocker, Bonnie Raitt, and many more.

The TRUTH about the Van Halen rumors:
And now for the die-hard fans, the Van Halen News Desk will tackle all the currently widespread rumors and either shoot them down or confirm them as true.
Rumor: Van Halen are working towards finishing recording of a new studio album with David Lee Roth and a single is slated for release before the end of this year.
FALSE. The band starts recording in January.

Rumor: The band will tour extensively in 2011, taking in North America, and likely European and Australian dates.
FALSE. Although a 2011 tour may occur, no such tour is currently planned.

Rumor: Numerous reports about new music coming from the band are true. There is new music recorded with the expectation of an all-new studio album featuring David Lee Roth to be released in 2011. What is not known right now is the time frame for this.
Mostly TRUE. The band has written lots of new music and hopes to complete an album, but a nothing is definite right now.

Rumor: DLR’s vocals are being recorded away from the 5150 studio.
Partially True. This is true, but only in regards to the early demos, not the final recording. This is what many bands do before entering the studio. The entire band will reconvene in the studio in January.

Rumor: Eddie has recorded most of the bass parts for the album.
FALSE. Eddie could have recorded some of the bass parts for the early demos when Wolfie wasn’t around, as he often did when Michael Anthony was in the band. Wolfgang has been recording demos all year, and he’ll be playing all the bass parts on the finished tracks.

Rumor: There is a deal in place between Warner Bros. and the band for a new album.
FALSE. If a new album is released, it will most likely be a direct deal with Walmart or Best Buy.

Rumor: Van Halen has chosen Ross Hogarth to produce new music.
FALSE. The producer they chose is John Shanks. Hogarth is an engineer rather than a producer, and is not involved with Van Halen whatsoever.

Rumor: Chris Cornell from Soundgarden has recorded some background vocals on some of the new music.
FALSE.

Rumor: A spokeperson for Van Halen recently clarified that the band isn’t doing anything and that there will definitely be no new album or tour next year.
FALSE. A spokeperson for Van Halen did indeed shoot down the recent rumors of planned tour and an album near completion. He was being honest in doing so, since there is currently neither a tour planned, nor an album near completion. However, he did say that the band is currently “working on stuff”, but gave no further details.

Rumor: The main reason that the band never released a DVD of the 2007-2008 tour was because the band members could not reach a financial agreement over the deal.
FALSE. The reason that it wasn’t released had nothing at all to do with finances. The band simply wasn’t happy enough with the footage and felt that many camera angels weren’t right.

Rumor: Warner Bros is preparing to release Blu-Ray editions of “Live Without a Net” and “Live Right Here Right Now.”
Unknown. We don’t know if this is true or not.

Rumor: Warner Bros is releasing limited edition remastered vinyl releases of Van Halen II, Women And Children First, and 1984 on Dec. 13th, 2010.
True, except for release date. The 3 vinyls will be released, but they’ve been pushed back until sometime in early 2011.

Rumor: Warner Bros is preparing to release re-masters of the Sammy Hagar era catalogue
Partially True. They are talking about releasing remasters of the Sammy Hagar era albums, but nothing has been decided yet.

Stay tuned to VHND.com for the truth about Van Halen 2011!

bats@#t crazy is firing your lead singer.

than firing two lead singers than hiring the first one back and firing him again.
firing three lead singers, hiring the first one back, then firing him and then hiring him back on again!
Of course, nobody would be *that* nuts.

This just in P-

Rekindling his old rock 'n roll romance with former partner, Edward Van Halen, after a tell-all bio, which painted the guitar hero as a reclusive wrecking ball, singer Sammy Hagar says, "The REAL reunion is on!"

Hagar confirms that he will, indeed, be singing for his former bandmates, erasing the departed Roth's vocal tracks, for his own signature roar.

"The music is done, the vocals were done.
Now, they're being RE-DONE," affirms Hagar, on location in Cabo.

"I got a call from Claudio, four hours ago.
He's like, 'Zammy, you need to call Eddie...he crying...Roth leave again!'
I said to my wife, GUARNTEED, that phone will be ringing and you know who, will be on the other end of the horn.

Thirty seconds later, my cell starts vibrating, but it's Alex on the other end!"

Word from the Van Halen camp is that the two forces have reunited, despite the rivers of bad blood, not to mention the tsunami started by Hagar's tell-all book.

"Sammy said some stuff in that book, but it's all behind us," wheezes Eddie Van Halen.
"The guy is a total cock-sucking clown...a real piece of shit...but, in the end, we're brothers."

They are complete and utter fucking assholes for doing Mike like that. Perhaps not so much Alex, but spEd's hatred of Mike is irrational. I can completely understand hating Spamulus Flatulus, as that fat fool ruined a once great band, but Mike was one of the ingredients that made the incredible CVH cake such a fantastic sonic meal.

If I were in his shoes, and had the same sense of fair play, maturity and integrity that I do, I would have told Mike he can do whatever he wants, play bass with whoever he wants, but the door is always open to play bass in Van Halen for forever.

But that is too much to ask from spEd I suppose. To act like a mature, understanding and tolerant professional.

I understand he loves his son. How can he not?

But again, if I were in his shoes, I would say "Mike is THE BASSPLAYER in Van Halen". I would help the kid in his musical endeavors, etc. but Mike would always be in VH.

Seriously....look at any video of CVH back in the day, compared to any video of the 2007 tour. NO FUCKING COMPARISON. Mike is a great fucking PERFORMER, and kicks total ass when it comes to the high-energy, atomic blast hard rock that CVH produces.

Wolfy just sorta stands around, and (no need to discuss this further - dead horsie been beat into a greasy smudge in the dirt) it is debatable as to how much bass he even played.

Seriously, they coulda just put a cardboard cutout of Wolfy up there and play along with pre-recorded bass tracks, and it would have made no difference to the crowd.

EDWARD VAN HALEN - LIFE IS PRECIOUS AND LIFE IS SHORT - KISS AND MAKE UP WITH MIKE AND BRING HIM BACK TO WHERE HE SHOULD BE......PLAYING BASS FOR VAN HALEN.

What gives? Are we getting new Van Halen soon or what? The rumor mill needs to know. “Alex and Wolfgang Van Halen often join Eddie in the 5150 studio and the three of them have been hard at work jamming and recording tunes. The three Van Halens have been sending the music to David Lee Roth, who’s adding the lyrics as he is doing push ups.”

According to these sources, “the band is re-exploring Eddie’s extensive library of unreleased songs and riffs, even reaching back to their early unreleased demos for added inspiration. The band is retooling and tweaking some of this mostly-unheard, unreal, incredible music, which have completely vibrant new lyrics from Roth.”

The reports further allege that Van Halen recorded part of the album at Shank’s studio and a couple of nights out on the beach grilling, drinking , toking a fatty, marking the first time Van Halen will track an LP outside its own studio since it was built in 1983.

They will hit the road with the same line up as last time, with Micheal Anthony (the fab four) expected to join them on the American leg slated to begin in Boca Raton, Fla on Oct 21st. With a new album and world tour, can Van Halen achieve world record concert gross or net gross? Dave, when questioned about this responded, bow zee bow zee bop zitty bop.

"COVERING" VAN HALEN
Well, Van Halen fans are starting to buzz louder and louder as reports are surfacing that Eddie, Alex, Dave and Wolfie are in the mixing stages of what will be the long-awaited new album. Slash is one of those buzzing, as he dished that one of the guys who works for him is also doing some work with VH and tipped him off to that.

There are some other interesting rumors circulating on just what music will be hitting the streets this time. Some Nasty spies on the east coast claim that Dave was heard recording there early in the year before the band was doing their thing in LA.

Now, the fun part...

If you remember, over the years Van Halen did some covers and totally Van Halenized them, from "You Really Got Me", to "Dancin In The Streets" and "Pretty Women", not to mention Roth's versions of "California Girls" and "Just A Gigolo". Was Dave overheard singing a number of other "covers"? ... and could Van Halen's new release contain several covers this time around???

We will keep our eyes and ears peeled to see if we hear more on this one and, in the meantime, if you want to see VH live and will be in Australia, in late September the band is headlining the Soundwave Revolution in Brisbane the 24th, Sydney the 25th, Melbourne the 30th and Adelaide on October 1st.

EXCLUSIVE: Van Halen Aussie Tour Rumours Including Sideshows And AFL Grand Final
Post by: Dave-O 9 June, 2011 - 9:28 AM

There have been a lot of Van Halen rumours going around about them doing extra shows alongside their appearance at the upcoming Soundwave Revolution festival.

One of the biggest rumours is that the hard rockers will play the AFL Grand Final. While that seems highly unlikely as Van Halen will be busy tearing up the Adelaide leg of the Soundwave Revolution tour on the same day of the Grand Final, which is, of course, played in Melbourne, Triple M music reporter contacted promoters yesterday to try and get a definitive answer.

"The band may be sounded out for the grand final. Let's not say it's happening yet, but& there might be a possibility that they'll be sounded out to play," said Nui.

If Van Halen were to play the AFL Grand Final, it would certainly be a different vibe to last year's act, 80s pop star Lionel Richie!

The other rumour is that Van Halen will play sideshows.

"[The promoter] said sideshows are a possibility but only if the Soundwave festivals sells out. They've got some dates up their sleeve. There's a whole week that Van Halen are here where they're not playing shows."

Van Halen joins Alice Cooper, Hole and Alter Bridge (featuring Slash's Myles Kennedy) as headliners for this year's Soundwave Revolution festival, while a new Van Halen album should be out by August.

Van Halen invent hair metal

Thirty-five years ago, a four-piece American guitar band set about changing rock music for ever. They took their name from a brotherly relationship; they had a goofy, Jewish singer with family connections to New York bohemia; they added pop hooks and smarts to fast, aggressive guitar music; their debut album included a song with the word "punk" in its title; and they weren't the Ramones.

Of course, you wouldn't believe Van Halen were the most important American band of the late 70s if you only read rock critics. They were too popular, too vulgar, too much, too soon. They celebrated idiocy. So did the Ramones, of course, but Van Halen's idiocy was of a different order to punk's: it wasn't built around comic-book humour, but on David Lee Roth's apparent range of interests, which ran the gamut of pursuits from casual sex to casual intoxication, with nothing in between. The tension between Roth's goofiness and stellar guitarist Eddie van Halen's desire to be taken seriously was at the heart of their music, and eventually tore the pair apart.

Van Halen, legend holds, were spotted by Gene Simmons of Kiss, playing at the Starwood club in Los Angeles in 1976. Simmons was so impressed he flew the band to New York to produce a session for them at his own expense. All the elements that instantly identify Van Halen were present on the Simmons demos: it's no wonder that when they came to record their official debut, it took just days, with minimal overdubbing. Roth was already a blowhard, Eddie's guitar technique was clearly light years ahead of the competition, Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony were a thunderous rhythm section.

Their signature sound was clean, precise and full of attack: there's absolutely no fat on the songs that made their name. Where heavy rock's use of the blues had previously been trudging and unwieldy, Van Halen added a sense of flight, taking away the swing, speeding even a simple 12-bar into something entirely unrelated to its source. They closed their debut album with a version of John Brim's old blues Ice Cream Man, and even then you can't imagine, say, Humble Pie coming up with such a confection.

That debut was nothing short of a paradigm shift in the sound of heavy music, as important as Jimi Hendrix's first record had been a decade before, and Nirvana's second would be in closing the era Van Halen began. It sounded like nothing before it, yet also like it could have been made at any time until Nevermind was released 13 years later: that's an awfully long time to sound undated. But the bands Van Halen spawned, sadly, were pallid imitators without Van Halen's invention and skill. Van Halen had transformed rock by unwittingly creating music's most profitable rubbish dump.

The difference between Van Halen and the hair metallers who followed was what always separates game-changers from imitators: their wide listening habits. In his first big interview, Eddie Van Halen explained: "Dave our singer doesn't even own a stereo. He listens to the radio, which is a good variety … Most of our songs you can sing along with, even though it does have the peculiar guitar and end-of-the-world drums."

Not that Roth cared about being refracted through hair metal. In fact, he boasted, that wasn't the real extent of Van Halen's influence. As he told the writer Lisa Robinson in 1984, at the peak of the band's powers: "I know for a fact that to a small degree, we've bred a small legion of imitators, copycats, mimics, people who are using Van Halen for their sole inspiration. But even more important than that are all the people who are just disgusted and revolted by our music and our presence and our appearance and the way I do interviews, and they've been forced to come up with some very substantial musical alternatives to Van Halen-type rock, and that's why we have new wave."

That interview shows a fascinating man toying with his interrogator. Roth references John Cassavetes and George Bernard Shaw, but still pins down what Van Halen really meant: "I would still prefer to think of us as witless and tasteless. Arch enemy of the common public. That's all I wanted to be in life, really. I always wanted to be an outrage to public decency and a threat to women. And this is one of the few occupations where you're not only allowed that, but you're encouraged."

Van Halen’s devotion to music reaches far and wide

By Regis Behe, TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Spandex. Brown M&Ms. A revolving door of lead singers. These are some of the things that come to mind when Van Halen is mentioned.

But Rick Granati of the Granati Brothers has a different, more atypical view. He and his siblings — Dave, Hermie and Joey — toured with Van Halen in 1979 and 1981, and stay in touch with brothers Alex and Eddie.

“They’re actually just wonderful people,” Rick Granati says. “Eddie is a sensitive, deep person who is totally devoted to music.”

The Van Halens and the Granatis — by name alone sounding like a couple of Shakespearean street gangs — met in 1979. The Beaver County siblings were in Los Angeles, opening for the New Wave Brit band the Fabulous Poodles at the Whiskey A Go-Go when they were tabbed to open Van Halen shows in Pocatello, Idaho, and Logan, Utah.

The Granatis showed up in a van. The Van Halens had two large tour buses. The Granatis were experts at pitch-perfect pop and rock harmonies. Van Halen made music that seared the flesh of weaker human beings.

The Granatis collectively thought they were in over their heads. But the first night in Pocatello, the crowd demanded an encore. Being the opening act, they were reluctant to go back onstage. Noel Monk, then Van Halen’s production coordinator and later manager, told them to go back on, and made sure Eddie Van Halen was aware of what was happening. Intrigued, Eddie invited the Granatis on the rest of the tour.

“They treated us as equals, like we were their brothers,” Rick Granati says. “They made sure we had a sound check and never shorted us with the amount of stage available to us.”

The Granatis would meet up with Van Halen again in 1981 when the Fair Warning Tour came to Pittsburgh at the then-Civic Arena. They assumed the Van Halens would ignore them.

“But when Eddie saw us, he said, ‘Hey,’ grabbed us and gave us a big group hug,” Rick Granati says. “After the show, we ended up hanging out until five in the morning.”

Eddie Van Halen also promised he would do something for the band, which had just lost its recording contract. Thinking Van Halen would help them get another deal, the Granatis were stunned when, a few days later, they were asked to join the Fair Warning Tour in Philadelphia for the remaining 48 dates.

The Granatis ended up being confidantes (and yes, partners in mayhem) with the Van Halen crew. Rick Granati remembers visiting Eddie in the ’90s at his lavish home in Los Angeles during recording sessions.

“He puts so much pressure on himself,” Granati says. “He told me, ‘I’m a prisoner of my success. I can’t walk down the street, I can’t take my son to McDonald’s or Disneyland. I’m thrilled everyone likes my music, but everybody wants something from (me).’”

In 1985, the Granatis were among the first to learn that the Van Halens were replacing lead singer David Lee Roth with Sammy Hagar. They protested, telling Eddie, “you can’t do that; you’re the Led Zeppelin of our generation.” But the Van Halens were fed up with Roth’s antics and side projects and wanted to move ahead with the band.

Shortly after, Roth came to Pittsburgh with a new band that included guitarist Steve Vai. He hooked up with the Granatis and made a startling confession.

“He said he’d made the biggest mistake of his life,” Rick Granati recalls. “He said, ‘You guys get along with Eddie and Alex. You gotta tell them I want back in the band.’”

But when the Granatis relayed the message a few weeks later, the Van Halens were not amused, happy or inclined to say anything favorable about Roth.

“They erupted,” Rick Granati says, saying they went on for 20 minutes about their displeasure with Roth.

“And now, they’re finally back together,” Granati adds with a laugh. “It only took 22, 23 years.”

While those days are in the past, the Granatis still have the rock ‘n’ roll bug. They are currently working with Peter Bennett, a promoter who worked with the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, on a Beatles tribute show scheduled for October at the Lincoln Park Performance Arts Center in Midland.

It’s like the debate in the old Miller Lite commercials. But instead of “tastes great” or “less filling,” Van Halen fans often are divided among which lead singer was better, David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar. But no matter which Van Halen singer is at the mic, the group did exert an influence on musicians who bought into Roth’s theory that “there’s a little Van Halen in all of us.”

A short update from my buddy. Verbatim:

"Van Halen fans will be very happy... Heavy guitars! Really good vocals."

3) The infamous “Brown M&Ms” clause written into Van Halen’s early contract riders was included in contracts not because of ego, but rather to make sure that structural stage specifications in the contract were read thoroughly and were adequately provided . . ."

Ha!  Ha!  Ha!

Although, it's not as bad as the singer who ordered his assistant to remove all the seeds from his watermelon!
