I had a god friend who hated the way it was mixed, by I like it... I listened to Disc one of Petty's live anthology today... it was better than I expected... I was expecting it to sound alot rougher... but it is really nice, and great live performances.

Listened to these today:

'The Blue Mask'- Lou Reed

Electric guitar heaven; Lou and the late great Robert Quine combining to create a sound that, as one reviewer commented, sounds like human speach; bassist Fernando Saunders rocks like a craddle and almost acts as a third guitar with his sinewy and elastic playing.
Funny, harrowing, sweet, and all live early takes with no overdubs (except the vocals).

'Meditations'- John Coltrane

Very loud, very harsh, very intense. The classic Quartet plus Pharoah Sanders on tenor and Rashid Ali on drums.
Massive sound, this.

It is. I love his earlyish stuff, as well as those recent releases "Solo Acoustic" Vol. 1 & 2. Would be great to see him live. Great writer.
