Rod Stewart's glam 1940s-themed 70th birthday party
14 JANUARY 2015
Rod Stewart has entered a new decade, and the music legend certainly 'Wears it Well'. The Forever Young singer looks sprightly and suave in photos released of his 70th birthday party, which took place on Saturday at his Beverly Hills home. Rod's wife Penny Lancaster arranged the 1940s theme party, which gave a nod to the decade in which the birthday boy was born.
A rep for the couple confirmed: "Penny had arranged an evening to remember, with their 120 guests dressed in classic 1940s style.
"Rod surprised his guests by starting out the entertainment with a few of his great American song book classics. Followed by the wonderful 19 piece Glen Miller band.
Topping the bill, and to everyone's delight, The Faces reunited on stage in honour of Ian McLagan."In the snap shared from the celebrations, Rod is joined by his friends and family including wife Penny, Faces drummer Kenney Jones, Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood – former guitarist for The Faces – and his wife Sally.
The singer looks snappy in a sharp white suit and shirt, while Penny fitted the 1940s theme in a red gown and statement jewellery.
Rod has recently opened up about turning 70, and told The Mirror that he is "wiser now" and described his wife Penny as "an angel".
"Penny is an angel, I love her to death," he said. "She really has been an inspiration and protection, my Berlin Wall. We have a lot of fun. I met Penny in my 50s and if I had not learned by that point in my life, I was never going to."
Commenting on reaching the milestone birthday, he revealed: "I don't think birthdays mean as much to guys. Birthdays come and go and they don't worry me at all."
