Ronnie Wood Band Added To BluesFest 2013 Line-Up

Wednesday, 28 August 2013       Written by Huw Baines

...

The Ronnie Wood Band have been confirmed to close the latest edition of BluesFest with a tribute to Jimmy Reed.

The group, led by Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, will take the stage at 10pm on November 1, closing four nights of blues at the Royal Albert Hall.

“Jimmy Reed was one of the premier influences on the Rolling Stones and all the bands that love American blues from that era until the present day," Wood said. "It is my honour to have the opportunity to celebrate his life and legacy with this tribute.”

The Ronnie Wood Band join Van Morrison, who will play a solo set and a Bobby Bland tribute show alongside Mick Hucknall, Robert Plant, Natalie Cole, Gregory Porter, Bobby Womack, Tedeschi Trucks and Mavis Staples in headlining, with two slots per evening at 6.45 and 10pm.

Also confirmed to perform are Dr. Feelgood, Cerys Matthews and Huey Morgan, among others, while in the past the festival has hosted BB King, Robert Cray, Dr. John, Jamie Cullum, Booker T, Tom Jones, Erykah Badu and Southside Johnny.

Double red alert! Ronnie and Sally Wood wear coordinated crimson outfits as they attend Q Awards

When it comes to making an impact there is nothing like a red outfit.

And Ronnie Wood and his wife Sally went for double the effect when they both wore scarlet to the Q Awards held at Grosvenor House on Monday.

The Rolling Stones guitarist, 66, wore a flamboyant red two-piece suit, which was teamed with a white shirt and tan leather brogues.

...

His 34-year-old wife meanwhile wore a red bodycon dress which was matched with patent black pointed-toe heels.

She wore her wavy raven locks loose and added a matching shade of red lipstick to complete her look.

Stones star Ronnie Wood takes Mick Jagger’s harmonica duties at Albert Hall

Louise Jury, Chief Arts Correspondent
Published: 29 October 2013

...

When the Rolling Stones play the blues on stage it is Mick Jagger who has the harmonica.

But Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood will demonstrate his own skill on the instrument when he and Mick Taylor — who he replaced in the band in 1975 — perform together in a tribute concert to the American blues musician Jimmy Reed.

Wood, 66, is even learning how to play harmonica with the type of harness used by his hero Reed, who died aged 50 in 1976.

“He is overlooked, he’s not a household name. Doing this concert I’m hoping it will be a bit educational — for us and the audience. I’m going to try to get the songs as authentic as possible,” he said. Bobby Womack and Mick Hucknall will also play in the grand finale of the London BluesFest at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday.

Taylor, 64, said: “It’s great to hear Ronnie play the harmonica. We’re having a lot of fun.”

Robby Womack & Bonny Wood - the masters.
Gawd knows what they were doing in the early '80s. One shudders to wink.
Claims that the design of the Hall were based on Prince Albert's cock-ring are both erroneous and unfounded.
Ronald could take courage, if needed, from the Pythons' Albert Hall Harrison memorial thingie...

Ronnie invites...

On Tuesday 4th February, Castle Fine Art, Bruton Street, will be launching the ‘Ronnie Invites…’ series, which will see various artists, invited by rock legend Ronnie Wood, to display their work over the course of 2014.

Wood is the Artist-in-Residence at Castle Fine Art, Bruton Street, where his studio is also located. The gallery will be hosting an exclusive exhibition of the works by Michael Donald and John Pasche.

Photographer Michael Donald will be displaying his collection of portrait shots he took in 2010 during the filming of the Rolling Stones film ‘Stones in Exile’. The images are of Ronnie Wood, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts, whose image was included in the National Portrait Gallery in 2010 as part of the Taylor Wessing Prize.

Alongside Donald, John Pasche will be exhibiting a collection of his graphic work. Whilst still studying at the Royal College of Art, Pasche was put forward by his rector who had been asked by Mick Jagger to recommend someone to design the artwork for a forthcoming album. Pasche created the now iconic ‘Tongue and Lip’ logo in 1971 which was used on the ‘Sticky Fingers’ album notes. The logo has been used by the Rolling Stones ever since and the original sketch was sold in 2008 to the V&A museum.

Helen Roden, Castle Fine Art, Bruton Street gallery director said: “We’re really excited about this exhibition and the start of the ‘Ronnie invites…’ series. Both Donald and Pasche have created striking works that document the Rolling Stones from the pop culture movements in the 60’s and 70’s up to their recent work in film.

“It’s a real honour to have Ronnie as Artist-in-Residence at our gallery and we’re eager to see what other artists he brings in to display at the gallery”

For more information about Castle Fine Art, Bruton Street call 0203 588 0011 or visit www.castlegalleries.com
