Ringo Starr set to record with Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan
added: 2 Jun 2009  //  by: newsdesk

Ringo Starr is set to join Sir Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan to record new tracks over the summer.

The ex-Beatles drummer - real name Richard Starkey - is keen to join his former Fab Four bandmate and the music legend after hearing of their plans to collaborate.

Ringo, 68, has been described as the 'perfect middleman' for the two stars due to his long-time friendship and musical relationship with 66-year-old Paul, while he has also previously performed live with Bob, 68.

A source told Britain’s Daily Express newspaper: 'The word is Ringo is likely to play drums on a couple of tracks once Paul and Bob have put some songs together.

'Ringo will be the perfect middleman between Bob and Sir Paul as he knows them both well.' The expected collaboration came about after 'Get Back’ singer Paul expressed an interest in working with the 'Blowin’ in the Wind’ star, who admitted it would be something he would be very 'excited' to do.

A source said at the time: "Getting these two together for any length of time is difficult schedule wise but they both want this to work out. The music that comes out of this will be fascinating to hear."

Bob has already collaborated with another Beatle, the late George Harrison. The pair were both members of supergroup the Traveling Wilburys alongside Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Electric Light Orchestra star Jeff Lynne in the 1980s.

Sounds great! The Beatles, partically Lennon was very influenced by Dylan, I still get a laugh out of what Bob said to Lennon in '64 when he heard "I want to hold your hand" in the lyric that goes "I can't hide, I can't hide" Dylan thought they were singing I get High, I get high.

Remaining Beatles come together to promote 'Rock Band' video game
6/01/09 11:16PM GMT

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr came together to promote "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game.

The two surviving Beatles, along with Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, appeared Monday at Microsoft's Electronic Entertainment Expo presentation at the University of Southern California's Galen Center. Ono and Harrison were briefly introduced - but didn't say anything - before McCartney and Starr appeared on stage to banter about the upcoming game.

"Whoever thought we'd end up as androids?" joked McCartney.

In the music game developed by Harmonix and published by MTV Games, players will be able to follow - and perform as - members of the legendary music group, beginning with their early days in 1963 Liverpool through their final rooftop performance. Unlike its "Rock Band" predecessor, "The Beatles" edition will feature three-part vocal harmonies.

Forty-five Beatles songs will be available on the game's disc when "The Beatles: Rock Band" is released on Sept. 9, including "I Am The Walrus," "Back In The U.S.S.R.," "Here Comes The Sun," "Get Back," and "I Feel Fine." Microsoft said "All You Need Is Love" will be released for download on the Xbox 360, with proceeds going to Doctors Without Borders.

seems like in the recent issue of Rolling Stone that Bob wasnt exactly in favor of it. I dont have the quote, but from what I remember he said basically along the lines that he'd like to record with Paul one day but that it had to be for the right reasons and had to come across natural that they would artisticly cross paths.

my .02 (and its not really even worth that)  - - is that Dylan is and has been at such a creative peak lately that I doubt he'd stray from the path he's on now with all the excellent musicians he's surrounded with to record with Macca if he thinks Macca is just doing it for the notoriety or coin

Nah. There's been an awful lot of journalistic licence on this story in the last few weeks. Bob says he wouldnt mind working with McCartney if the occasion was right and this has morphed into them planning to work together - and now Ringo's in there too. A lot of hot air, to be honest IMO. Not sure if I even like the idea..but hey, if it keeps Bob active, bring it on.

Mick Taylor was quoted a week or two ago as saying he wouldnt mind working in the studio with the Stones again. I expect contact music to run a story any day now that he's rejoining them for an album and a tour.

Thats funny when you think about it. Paul McCartney wanting to work with Bob Dylan because it might make him a lot of money.

Anyway, here's the quote you're referring to - I copied and pasted the RS interview in the Dylan thread on here last week :

It's rare, but not unprecedented, for Dylan to collaborate on songs. Over the years, he's shared songwriting credits with the likes of Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, the late Rick Danko of the Band - even Michael Bolton. (When he was in the Traveling Wilburys, Dylan wrote numerous songs with George Harrison. He hopes one day to sit down and work with Paul McCartney: "That'd be exciting, to do something with Paul! But, y'know, your paths have to cross for something like that to make sense.")

It was a hit single too - "Steel Bars".

Came out in early 1991 after which Dylan  pretty much dried up in terms of songwriting for about 5-6 years. Have to say, I'd never guess from listening to it, that Bob Dylan would have had any involvement in it.

An odd combination, to put it mildly.

RINGO TO PLAY ON MCCARTNEY AND DYLAN RECORDING

...

MIDDLE MAN: Ringo Starr

Tuesday June 2,2009

With Bob Dylan and Sir Paul McCartney set to team up over the coming months we hear they’re likely to be joined by a third superstar.

Sources say former Beatle Ringo Starr will be collaborating with McCartney and Dylan when they finally get together in California later this summer.

“Ringo is mainly based in Los Angeles, close to where both Paul and Bob also have homes,” we’re told.

“The word is Ringo is likely to play drums on a couple of tracks once Paul and Bob have put some songs together.”

Dylan recently declared the prospect of working with Macca was “exciting” and Sir Paul’s spokesman confirmed he was “very interested” in a collaboration.

As we subsequently revealed the pair are now expected to meet up and work on songs in California in the coming months.

Ringo, 68, recently performed with Sir Paul on stage in New York.

The Liverpool-born drummer has also played with Dylan in the past, who recently topped the charts with his latest album Together Through Life.

“Paul and Ringo have talked about recording together at some stage and this is seen as the perfect opportunity,” adds our mole.

“Ringo will be the perfect middle man between Bob and Sir Paul as he knows them both well.”

I wonder why Ringo Starr never got a nose job.  I don't mean anything drastic, just maybe a little bit smaller and more refined.

And, why does he always wear those glasses?  He has big, beautiful blue eyes, he should show them off!  They are probably his best feature.
