Sorry if this annoys people, but yah know...

Gomper most likely features Brian on electric dulcimer(fretting with a slide) and recorder, there's no mellotron on Gomper.

The basic backing track featured Keith on electric 12 string guitar, Brian on electric dulcimer, Bill on bass, Charlie on tablas and Nicky on organ.

There were then overdubs of electric 6 string guitar(Keith playing in unison with the bass), percussion, recorder and vocals.

In his book Setting The Record Straight Eddie Kramer says that Dave Mason, Hendrix and Mitch played on Little One, he makes no mention of Brian contributing or even being present during the session.

According to some sources Charlie was not present, the tabla is peformed by Mick, as I?m not sure I didn't mention that.

Then who plays the flute? it is clearly in the track I played I don't think it's a recorder.

I don't hear a dulcimer (neither acoustic nor electric) please tell us the minute/second on the track to pay attention

My mistake, Nicky is playing the organ you're right

Well anyway I think this was the last team-work with Brian in thge studio and this song sounds that way because of Brian

Have you had a close listen to the satanic sessions box sets? Tis great and revealing stuff!

After having another listen to the Gomper session on the box set, it's definitely Charlie playing tablas.

The electric dulcimer is the main lead instrument(there isn't a sitar on the track at any point). A lot of people assume there is a sitar or some other indian instrument playing the lead melody(see Lews crediting for example), but it's Brian playing his custom made Vox Bijou aka electric dulcimer played with a slide.

The recorder comes in during the freakout part, the wind instrument you hear is a recorder, not a flute.

I have the 6-CD set "The Satanic Sessions" in fact I listened some takes before the webcast, I'm going to check them and of course I trust you, you always contribute with stones-wisdom, sometimes listening is better than reading, so I'm going to check the Satanic Sessions once more.

Those sites are of course invaluable sources, but I think that even they use their own ears and make assumptions at times, we all do of course. Ian's credits have changed, I think with sssoul and Mathijs sometimes point him in the direction of new info if it seems sound.

I've found that experimentation with the actual instruments themselves helps to clarify things. Certain sounds which seem mysterious or hard to pin down become pretty obvious when you try and play the relevant parts on the possible instruments.

Gomper and Cool, Calm, Collected have had various instruments credited in relation to the part Brian plays, but it's definitely his electric dulcimer on both tracks.

Regarding the tabla, in the satanic sessions you can hear Charlie talking, Keith telling him to stop playing etc. Mick seems to be up in the control room for a lot of the albums basic backing tracks.

...

Eddie talks about Little One in his book, no mention of Brian being present or playing on the track.

I recorded a quick version of Gomper using one of the guitar, bass and percussion backing tracks from the box set. I cut out the left channel of organ and dulcimer.

I tuned a guitar up with 4 strings set up the same as an electric Dulcimer, sang and added a quick recorder part at the end too.
