Going thru alot of lyrics as the songs play these days...just to remember them again...I did a read thru of DANCING WITH MR D...an INCREDIBLE song...Taylor and Richards are at a moment of synergy there that it captivates you...Imagine if one of todays newer bands put these words out today...they would be laughed at with the NEW SHOCK ROCK label attached...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=7C8ICKbCFZY

Down in the graveyard where we have our tryst
The air smells sweet, the air smells sick
He never smiles, his mouth merely twists
The breath in my lungs feels clinging and thick
But I know his name, he's called Mr. D.
And one of these days he's gonna set you free
Human skulls is hangin' right 'round his neck
The palms of my hands is clammy and wet

Lord, I was dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', Lord, keep your hand off me
Dancin' with Mr. D., with Mr. D., with Mr. D.

Will it be poison put in my glass
Will it be slow or will it be fast?
The bite of a snake, the sting of a spider
A drink of Belladonna on a Toussaint night
Hiding in a corner in New York City
Lookin' down a fourty-four in West Virginia

I was dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', Lord, keep your hand off me
Dancin' with Mr. D., with Mr. D., with Mr. D.

One night I was dancin' with a lady in black
Wearin' black silk gloves and a black silk hat
She looked at me longin' with black velvet eyes
She gazed at me strange all cunning and wise
Then I saw the flesh just fall off her bones
The eyes in her skull was burning like coals
Lord, have mercy, fire and brimstone
I was dancin' with Mrs. D.

Lord, I was dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
I was dancin', dancin', dancin' so free
Dancin', dancin', dancin' so free

Dancin', dancin'

Was that lyric ever considered good/cool?   I'm askin'.  I don't know - I didn't get that album until '89 or so and it always seemed pretty hamboney to me.

I started getting along with that song a lot better when I decided it was the Stones' only true Halloween/Novelty/Monster Mash type song - In that particular company its lyrics are actually pretty elegant and the imagery is good.  Now I regularly feature it in my Halloween setlists and it totally rocks a dancefloor.   Seriously, a room of drunk people in masks going from AC/DC's HELL'S BELLS into DANCING WITH MR D?

That shit is ON.

i've never dug this song or its lyrics, not a bad song, but just not one of my favourites. There's much better songs and lyrics on GHS, e.g. Heartbreaker, Star Star, Winter

There's blood in the streets, it's up to my ankles
She came
There's blood on the streets, it's up to my knee
She came
Blood on the streets in the town of Chicago
She came
Blood on the rise, it's following me
Think about the break of day

She came and then she drove away
Sunlight in her hair

She came
Blood in the streets runs a river of sadness She came
Blood in the streets it's up to my thigh She came
Yeah the river runs red down the legs of the city
She came
The women are crying rivers of weepin'

She came into town and then she drove away
Sunlight in her hair

Indians scattered on dawn's highway bleeding
Ghosts crowd the young child's fragile eggshell mind

Blood in the streets in the town of New Haven
Blood stains the roofs and the palm trees of Venice
Blood in my love in the terrible summer
Bloody red sun of fantastic L.A.

Blood screams the pain as they chop off her fingers
Blood will be born in the birth of a nation
Blood is the rose of mysterious union

There's blood in the streets, it's up to my ankles
Blood in the streets, it's up to my knee
Blood in the streets in the town of Chicago
Blood on the rise, it's following me

Yep, great record, especially Peace Frog and Queen Of The Highway.

I was thinking more along the lines of Horse Latitudes, but then again, I guess you could describe that as err, poetry!

I feel the same way too.  Don't forget Coming Down Again.  That's really good too.  Dancing With Mr. D seems childish.
