ER was the 1st "new" record of the Stones i bought, and i was bitterly disappointed. flat production. Nothing songs. Jagger trying to be too many people. I think NME summed it up best "The Stones are in a Malaise". To me, what was left off was what was treasure.
But...
Down in the hole - Great song. Cutting lyrics. Marred only by a "supposed" cutting, free form guitar that was rather wimpy (distortion please!!!) Let me go - Driving, cool, 2 chord song that is marred by a lacklustre, so out of its era solo, thats its scary She'e so cold - Again, cool song, cool riff, marred by a solo that is not a solo. DISTORTION PLEASE!!!! Rock it up! What is wrong with you guys?
I will say "Where the boys go" had promise. But it's kinda "Hang fire pt 1" - And Jagger on the dole is a fucking stupid thought. Just like his "accent" on this song. Instead of sounding like punk, he sound like Dennis Waterman!
"Hey Arfa! Wanna pint wiff Dave? You owe me a monkey. Then where we go, guv'na? Where the boys all go? Cor blimey, dont let the girls know! Know what i mean? Blimey, me guts have got a hole in it. Bleeding oath, it has. Oi! Some dead horse for me sausage, me Mucka".
Thoughts on this album
ER should NEVER have been 1st single. They really failed with this. She's so cold should have been 1st. The beginning, sadly not the end, of a Keith dirge song. Indian Girl is the worst/funniest song except for 90% of the Dirty Work album.
P.S. Dead horse is slang for sauce. Yanks call tomato sauce "Ketchup" - because they are retarded. And they also drive on the wrong side of the road just to prove they are soooooooooooooooo rebellious against the British.
