Can't beat Leon Russell OR Johnny Winter.....supreme talents, both of them, in their own rights. I always wanted to sing backup to either Leon or Joe Cocker. I was reading some of the comments on this one. Never heard that M&K wanted to ask Johnny to join the Stones after Brian's death. Doesn't make sense, as they had already gotten a committment from Mick Taylor before then...

Leon makes (well... made) some great covers of Dylan too, I love his triple album live, his best album and one of the best live albums from that era

Oh yeah I love Leon's Bob covers. In fact I think that his take of Girl From the North Country is one of the absolute best tracks on Mad Dogs and Englishmen. There's not much from Leon that I don't love. The guy is just such a great damned songwriter in his own right too.
