That guy was good. I'm sorry he disappeared so fast, I'd put him in the same category as Van Morrison or Warren Zevon.

Agree with you on that, TTM -- it's Yusuf Islam, however, I could do without.

Not my cup of tea, that's for sure, I liked Morning has Broken, but then again that's a hymn from the Christian faith that's been around for Centuries, I never cared for him, or James Taylor, Don McClain (bye bye Miss American Pie) I saw him open for The James Gang once & he got booed of the stage, if one is a rocker, like I am, just don't care for this laid back mellow music from folkies, John Denver is another, like being around a campfire listening to a guy play guitar while the fire crackles.

Cat is not allowed into the USA, because of the Patriot act.  Fuck, we allow the Bin Ladens to leave no questions asked, but we ban the guy who wrote Peace Train.  Mission Accomplished. Nolte - The Rocks Off patron saint

that's silly stone....
i'm a rocker and can rip it up on my tele -
but i learned how to pick guitar like an angel from guys like john denver, jim croce, taylor and cat stevens etc...
they are a part of my early musical education...
why is there this division between rockers and everything else?
music begins as a kid so i can't erase my influences as a musician.

peace train is still a great song.

I was thinking of the inflammatory comments he made early on in his conversion when I said I could do without him, shouldn't generalize because I think he's mellowed out, he was probably just a bit of a zealot then as a lot of people are when they first get into things  --

But he's been allowed in the USA since the no-flight list incident; believe he played in NYC in 2006?

I like all his stuff up to and including "Catch Bull At Four."  After that I kinda lost track of him. Some really lovely songs though.

that is a funny co-incidence i just got out of my car  from hearing "wild world" on the radio - a great song that one and  for me a toss up as to whose take I prefer his or Jimmy Cliff's

i thought that Matthew & Son was a good song back in its day and still do - but i embarass myself when i think how good I thought "father and son" was  back when i was a pimply 13 year old - now i think it sentimental tripe of the worse kind dressed up as profundity

and BTW hi texile glad to see you made it!!

I, too, enjoy his first few albums. And I'm a rocker as well. Love garage rock. But you just can't limit yourself. There is just too much great music out there---everything from the Stones to Petty to Van Morrison to Bach to Mozart to Gershwin to Ella Fitzgerald to Art Tatum to Thelonious Monk.....hey, even your {a generalized "your"} hero, Keith Richards, likes a variety of music! It doesn't diminish your stature or status if you like something other that thrashing rock.... Roll Eyes Wink Smiley
