Fav. artists of 1st British Invasion.

wondering what bands/artists people on this site liked besides The Stones/Beatles in '64/'65, I left them out because all the votes would go to them, this is the years '64 & '65, I left out The Troggs (they came on the scene in '66) there's more then 1 option to choose, my favorites are the Kinks/Yardbirds/Who.

The Who didn't visit the States untill 1967 and certainly had absoloutly no impact prior to then.

Of course. I just enjoy making a point!

I think they were perhaps a little too British for the States in '65

The Who were a major band in u.K. (after all this is British) in '65, they were well 'known in England before "Monterey Pop".

I've done a lot of research into this, so don't complain, if some band has been left out, like The Birds (with Ronnie wood) never had a hit between them, I'm talking about major artists, who had hits in the charts, not, unknown people, most of the people would have to be brought up in the 60's, to know these people, but i remember 2 films, T.A.M.I. show & Pop Gear, which was also 'known as Go Go Mania.

Yeah, Joey, The who were just fantastic, The mods were happening in '64, so when somebody mentioned The Who weren't happening in America, they sure were in good old England.

The reason I made the comemts was because I thought this poll was about the first wave of bands that "invaded" the States in '64 and '65. If thats the case, thn imo, The Who shouldn't be on the list.

The Small Faces didn't make it in the USA neither in the first, nor second or whatever (didn't know about those "editions")  however is nice to see them in second place.

However, Humble Pie were big in the USA but the Small Faces only made a "hit" and it was "Itchycoo Park"

The small Faces I put on the list because a lot of people on this board loved them, & yes, their hit happened in '66, but I'm sure they happened in '65, but it's like the old Ricky Nelson song "You can't please everyone, but you can please yourself"

And then we need a poll for the lesser but cool bands in Britain in the mid-late 60's....including bands like The Creation, The Action, The Birds, John's Children, the Fleur de Lys...and on to Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd. I know there are more......but, with a few exceptions, I love the Brit bands more than the American bands.

People wonder why I love the 60's so much---why I think about them, remember them, FEEL them.....this is why!!! Like no other time in history. You just HAD to be there...no way to describe it.

Sioux, I agree with you 100% about the 60's, it was like a magical period, it was when music was fresh & new, & different, some of the bands you mentioned never were 'known in U.S. & Canada except Pink Floyd, there was also the Move, The Nice, The Soft Machine (who opened for Hendrix in '67 at CNE Stadium here in Toronto) & a lot of others.

I think it was '66, but your right TTM, there was no mention of The Bee Gees in the internet research I did, & I remember them, To Love Somebody & N.Y. Mining Disaster were their early hits, but I remember them in the 60's very well, glad you brought it up.

Yes, the Move! I knew I'd forget some.....I discovered Keith Emerson and the Nice in '70 while in college in Chicago. They had a GREAT underground {say "FM" Wink} radio station there. I'd never heard anything like it before.....a rockin' Brandenburg Concerto! Bach never sounded so "hip" lol Cool

Ok, don' t laugh at me, but the BeeGee's 1st is a great album! I still love it.....and the first 3 are really good. They came out recently in a box set. The disco stuff was horrid, but the early stuff----well, think about it. Barry Gibb was only 19 and the twins were 17. And he/they were writing all the material AND Barry was orchestrating it. No easy feat there.

Oh no don't get me wrong. I wouldn't laugh at anyone for liking the BeeGees. They're really good at the kind of music they do. And if I'm in the mood for it it's fine. I'm just not usually in the mood for it.

Understood.  Smiley I don't listen a lot, but I do get some of those early songs caught in my head occasionally. I love Cucumber Castle.
