Stones?  'Dirty Work'--a masterpiece

anyone else? 'From Elvis In Memphis'--another masterpiece

also, Pink Floyd's 'Animals' comes to mind as criminally underrated

Was gonna say "From Elvis in Memphis" but decided not to, but in reflection youre right. Too many of the masses dismiss his post-army material all too easily, but the greatest albums he ever made were this one and "Elvis Is Back". I'd take those two ahead of pretty much anything else he ever done.

true in terms of the recording and feel of the album, but I think that there are a lot of great Mick performances on Exile too - Shine A Light, Let It Loose, ADTL,

Oh, I agree. It's my favorite Stone album that is not a Brian participation album. I don't know why Mick doesn't like it so much....except for the fact that I do think of it as more of a Keith album. But Mick can claim Sticky Fingers....can't he?

yeah, you're probably right - the fact its more a Keith album means Mick acts as if its average work, and has a bad habit of forgetting (on purpose??) that certain songs are on Exile. As for Sticky Fingers - again its got its Keith moments (I Got The Blues, Wild Horses) but the lead singer comes through on that album

I think the second Traffic album is quite underrated.  The one that starts with You Can All Join In.

I totally dig OU812. I just love it. So many memories. No bass though, so for the follow up, VH got a different producer.

And i must be the only sucka on the planet who liked TIN MACHINE!

"We Are Paintermen" by the Creation.

Not at my house, it's not!  Good one!

Dirty Work is easily the most underrated Stones album.  If Jagger slags Exile on occasion (although that might be a 90s thing - I can't recall him ripping Exile in the last few years) the ENTIRE BAND slags Dirty Work.  And the best parts of Dirty Work stomp all over anything they've done since.

The best term to define underrated is "an album I liked that no one else did." And by that standard Corgi's list is the most fearless here.  Even if both those records suck.  Wink

I don't know if it's underrated, but it sure is great:

Love And Danger - Joe Ely

Doesn't even come close to Lord of the Highway.  In fact, since Lord of the Highway, Ely's non-live material has been a big let down in my opinion.  He's still got it in concert, but the studio albums haven't been any good for a long time.

In the same genre, I would say that Marty Stuart's "This One's Going to Hurt You," is extremely underrated, especially due to the way the last cut on the album comes full circle to the beginning of the record.
