What does music mean to you?

I've got a project in which I'm supposed to interview people across various demographics and ask them what music means to them.  Other questions of the interview include:

What is your favorite genre of music?

How do certain types of music affect your mood?

Has your taste in music changed as you grew older??

Anyways even answering one question would help, figured people on this board could answer with ease.  Thanks everyone.

What is your favorite genre of music?
Anything rooted in the blues

How do certain types of music affect your mood?
Some songs make me happy just cuz they're fun to listen and dance too. Some songs trigger certain memories of my life and through the songs I can revisit them or deal with past regrets, etc. Some songs pump me up while others help me relax

Has your taste in music changed as you grew older??
I started to appreciate more artists and became more open-minded. I started looking more for originality and meaningful lyrics.

What does music mean to me? Everything.

Can't imagine living without Music .  It was always played on the radio and phonograph by my parents and by me at a very tender age on one of those little 45 record players with flowers on the case.  I remember hearing my parents music:  polka music , Roger Miller, Lawrence Welk, Bing Crosby, Hank, Elvis, Frank. Buddy, etc until I got my first 45 record player..Then it was Roy Orbison, Bobby Vinton, Four Seasons, Lettermen, and soon followed by Mowtown, Beatles, Stones, Kinks ( no Monkees Wink).  The Beatles were my first "crush" band.  I pretty much followed the music playing at the time on the radio, which was rock n roll and Mowtown.  My tastes became more discerning as I entered my teens..I got sick of the same old Aretha/Supremes sound and started listening only to rock and the blues.   Rap never interested me.  My rock and roll is not limited to "oldie but goodies."  I enjoy many different styles,  but the music must have solid lyrics and melody. Singer songwriters have always been my favorite.

Music has always been in the background to what I am doing..reading, talking, cooking, raising children, entertaining, working, driving, making love, or on the computer.  (Only exception is TV and sleep).  Types of music I listened to have changed by what events and mood cycles were occurring in my life.  I did have a short lived "highbrow stage" where I listened only to Classical Music.  And in the 80's, god forbid , it was a short lived "sappy stage"  with Lionel and company.   Alternative rock, Guitar rock, Heavy Metal,  and country music  took most of my 90's.  And now I listen to just about all genres, except Rap and new RnB.  My iPod and iTunes are usually on shuffle so I can hear a mixture of music throughout the day

For the most part..I pick the music to go with the mood..

But hearing Bob, Bruce, and the Stones on the radio or in passing somewhere, always brings a smile to my face, despite my mood

Got a little carried away there Throwaway..you want more info let me know with a PM

P.S. Jackie next Friday!!!! Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

I'm 19. I'm from Switzerland, but my folks dragged me to the US when I was 9 so I pretty much grew up here.

What is your favorite genre of music?
Anything That's Rock 'N' Roll.

How do certain types of music affect your mood?
They bring back memories, emotion, certain events, things you can relate to.

Has your taste in music changed as you grew older?
Yeah, I guess so, I dig some of the new stuff, you just have to search thru all the bullshit to get to the good stuff. I still hate country music.

But all in all, music is my life and means everything to me.

Favorite? Rock with a Roll
Well I like C & W better than I used to.
Different songs affect my mood, not necessarily different genres.

What is your favorite genre of music?

R&B (as in rhythm and blues...before the term 'R&B' got hijacked
by the likes of Justin Timberlake)

How do certain types of music affect your mood?

It has the power to elevate the mundane to joy and happiness.

Has your taste in music changed as you grew older??

my tastes haven't changed but expanded, to include wonderful treasures, that
only age and wisdom can bring.
