To me, it's a toss up between the 60's & 70's, I'll pick the 60's, although they did great albums in the 70's, especially "Exile on Main Street" but the 60's was a fantastic era.

Well, I think it's obvious they reached a musical peak from the late sixties to mid-seventies... And one so high, any comparisons would be unfair, in my opinion.

I say the seventies.  Music peaked in this decade and the Stones were no exception to that claim.  Every studio album the band released in the seventies were instant classics IMO.

Definitely the 70s.   Its got the studio albums, as well as the great 71, 72, 73, 78 tours, while the 60s really only had 69 that could compete.

Studio wise definitely the 70's but they performed really well during the Voodoo Lounge and Bridges tours as well. From what I saw in 4 Flicks they were damn good during that tour too.

I agree with that. But I picked the 60's because Brian's influence was so GREAT. And everything was fresh and new and exciting. Lots of variety too! Can't beat those 60's.... Wink Cool

You cant really do stones by decades more by 'periods' or eras or something, maybe im spiliting it up too much, but as far as i can see

1962 - 1966  (called ''the great years'' apparently)
1967            (kinda an anomaly)
1968 - 1973
1974 - 1978
1979 - 1986
(my favourite)
1989
1994 - present

my favourites 1979 - 1986

Ok, this makes sense. Then I would have to vote for '62-'66 and then '68-'73. I've ALWAYS had trouble making up my mind about things... Roll Eyes

70s had the attitude, the music and the lasting relevance....
i've always argued that exile and some girls would be more timeless than beggars or bleed.
