U2's dark secret is that the band broke up about 20 years ago, between the admirable flop of 'Zooropa' and the brave confusion of 'Pop'. They told no one, not even themselves. They continued showing up for work, but their founding spirit of internal community had evaporated under the heat of success, adulthood and fear of failure. Before, U2 had been massively greater than the sum of its parts; now it became one and one and one and one. Since the mid-'90s, the band's founding inspiration has drained away through the cracks in the studio floor. The four former innocents have stood in their four corners, trying to summon the essence of their fantasies into the middle of the floor. Somewhere along the way, the band lost sight of what it had been chasing out of the corner of that U2 eye, turning into a pale parody of its early promise. Having started out aiming for the heavens, it settled for being the band with a reputation for aiming for the heavens. 'Songs of Innocence' is the sound of U2 falling definitively to earth.

A 42-year-old registered sex offender is being sought by police after he attended a yoga class and shocked everyone when he began masturbating, a Jacksonville, Fla., TV station reported. Joseph Jordan was escorted out of the class Sunday (Sept. 14), but Jacksonville police were able to identify him because he used his real name when he signed up, according to the report by News4Jax.

"He filled out the form with a lot of his specific information," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda. "Maybe couldn't control himself once he was in there."

"U2 have only themselves to blame. They needed to come back with some humility and some outstanding songs. Instead they have come back with faux humility, no outstanding songs (apart from the downbeat closer, which could never make it as a single and therefore will not get much beyond the fan base) and a disastrous promotional campaign that has generated unprecedented blowback. They'll spend the next three years on the heritage rock tour gravy train and then split"
