Been away a while
Best outtake or unreleased track I’d say ‘Through the lonely nights’ or ‘Living at the heart of love’ what do you guys say? https://youtu.be/FGo0lCQsRIQ https://youtu.be/jBRxNGkuvDE |

For me "Still a fool" (two trains) from th Beggars Banquet sessions, it's great and also show Brian and Nicky doing great things

Drift Away is also one of my top five, I think (not sure... it's an assumption) they didn't release it as Humble Pie and Rod Stewart did it in the same period, Humble Pie first and Rod after IORR but was recorded previously

I think another major reason for 'Drift away' being left off IORR was due to them also recording 'Aint too Proud To Beg' (which is a better and more imaginative version than what is a fine cover of 'drift away')
I dont think they would have wanted to drop a Jagger-Richards song in favour of another cover. Its probably that simple - waving goodbye to another 10% of the publishing rights for the album! 'through the lonely nights' isnt really an outtake as they released it on the b-side of IORR. It was recorded in Jamaica for GHS so it was only unreleased for less than two years. Most of the best ones are covers, presumably because they're generally finished and most of the original compositions that circulate have unfinished lyrics or vocals, which suggests that those parts of a Stones record are done very late in the process. It may also be a significant reason why 56 years into their recording act there's no sign of an 'anthology' style boxed set of outtakes Of the originals, I always liked 'Claudine' and obviously the only reason it remained unreleased for over three decades was due to potential litigation. It was nice to see it get released eventually - as Claudine Longet is still alive and well, I was pleasantly surprised that they were able to do so. Heres a few of my favourite originals, even though some of them arent really finished. The original 'No Spare Parts'. I do prefer the 'Some Girls' deluxe to be honest but this is still lovely : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt01CKmXWrg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2xjOgeSWn4 If only they'd finished the lyrics to this. It absolute smokes..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US3fczvs6pQ Likewise with this one from the 'Some Girls' sessions. I assume thats Sugar Blue on harmonica https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lazjQ6e_SA This one featuring Keith on vocals from the 'Dirty Work' sessions. Theres a more polished take out there with sax but I prefer this version. Love the backing vocals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnL0jo3vRN0 Maybe the best of the unreleased Jagger-Richards songs. This one somehow managed to be left off 'Voodoo Lounge' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0CvK49KglM Good thread. Thanks for starting it |

It was too early to cover Drift Away after the Dobie Gray hit: imagine what the rock press that already had an axe to grind for IORR would have written about them being has-beens.
However, they waited too long on that cover, and lost it to the rancid likes of Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker. It could have been a Jagger solo cover as well. |

It has been quite a long time, but a RO member/friend MARKO had a nice CD tree and torrent file with about 5 CDs worth of outtakes and stuff...it was quite a collection...I recall many songs I enjoyed...I still have the CDs but they are not labeled and 2 or 3 all gunked up as they stayed in the car forever

It would be a great idea to have the list of all studio outtakes
Anyone has one? |

You Got It Made - Get this done already - the title is so promissing .....but "Hang Fire" seems to over shadow it

Yes Gazza, I think Travelin' Man is an incredible track. I can remember the first time I heard it. Had it on repeat for quite a while.
I always liked "Do You Think.." from the Some Girls outtakes. Like the original bootleg version much better than the one they eventually released on the Some Girls set. |
