Probably yes. We are on our 22nd year... I loved in the past discussing about rock history, when Wikipedia was not even planned. As far as I know the Stones didn’t play Woodstock because Mick was busy as an “actor” in the Ned Kelly film

luckily they made up for it with the wonderfully organised Altamont

From various interviews over the years, it appears that the organizers thought the Stones were not hip enough - yes, even I 1969. When the second Woodstock was tanking in 1994, I remember rumors of the Stones showing up and Mick stating in an interview: We weren't invited to the first one and we won't be going to the second one. Or words to that effect. For all the stuff about Mick being blasé about Stones history, he never forgets how people have treated the band over the years.

Yeah, I've never read anywhere that they were even invited.

Would have been a non-starter as Mick spent two months in Australia filming immediately after the Hyde Park show on 5th July. Also, Anita gave birth to Marlon a few days before the Woodstock Festival.

I'm not sure when this event started coming together but had they wanted the Stones prior to Brian leaving the band, visas would have been a problem due to his drug conviction.
Being able to tour the US later in the year was one of the contributing factors in replacing him.

Plus I cant imagine the Stones hitting the stage on a Monday morning!

I don't think the Stones would have fitted into the (mostly) lovey-dovey, "peace man" crowd.

There's an interview out there, I forget if it was Mick or Keith, where they distanced themselves from the hippie types.

The new documentary on Netflix has a segment where the organizers had their wishlist of performers. The Stones are on there...I cant recall if they mentioned why they didnt get them but you saw the name (along with others) graphically crossed out.

Its quite a good doc...its about the making of the event (years, and up to the final days) and not so much the performances...My Yasgur was quite a cool cat for a country square.

The Who played it and absolutely hated it. Townshend often calls it their worst performance. I think I read that they were spiked with acid !

CSN&Y were there...but you wont see Y on screen...he threatened the crew and told them if he was on camera he would beat the crap out of them...you only see the other 3 on stage...it wanst the fact that they were being filmed (selling out)...it was the fact that the cameras were ON STAGE and he was annoyed by that...we have not progressed from that as it seems to be the necessary evil in order to play to large audiences now

I find everytime I go to Europe I find the variety of Netflix TV shows much more vast than the US has...maybe the films are the opposite. Who knows how these licenses work, right?
