There are many tales about the roots of that fine ditty. For example, that it began as 'Brow Sugar' when an unsealed bag of demerara fell out of a cupboard in the kitchenette of Marsha Hunt's flatlette and many grains took residence on MJ's forehead. Or even that the chorus - of 'Don's Sugar, how come you taste so good?' was  a very early sing-along inspired by Donald Thursby at 94 Edith Grove whenever he kindly lent the boys some sweetener for their cuppas of char.
But the full and real meaning may now be lost in the mists of time.
