Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger has joined Claes Bang and Elizabeth Debicki in director Giuseppe Capotondi’s thriller “The Burnt Orange Heresy.”

Jagger will portray an English art dealer-collector and patron of Jerome Debney, the reclusive J.D. Salinger of the art world.

Set in present-day Italy, “The Burnt Orange Heresy” centers on an art world scam that goes terribly wrong. Bang plays a beguiling art critic who begins a romance with an alluring American tourist, portrayed by Debicki. The new lovers travel to the lavish and opulent Lake Como estate that’s the home of Jagger’s character, who offers a seductive deal: in exchange for a career-transformative introduction to Debney, he must steal a new masterpiece from the artist’s studio.

“The Burnt Orange Heresy” is adapted by Scott B. Smith from the novel by Charles Willeford. Executive producers are Aeysha Walsh of MJZ and Stephanie Wilcox of Rumble Films. Producers are David Zander of MJZ, William Horberg of Wonderful Films and David Lancaster of Rumble Films. Production is set to start in Italy on Sept. 24.

The deal was announced Thursday, the opening day of the Toronto Intl. Film Festival. HanWay Intl. is handling sales. UTA Independent Film Group is managing the U.S. sale.

Jagger previously starred in 2001’s “The Man From Elysian Fields” alongside Andy Garcia, and also appeared in the 2008 film “The Bank Job.” He is represented by CAA.

Claes Bang and Elizabeth Debickiwill star in the movie from Giuseppe Capotondi.
Mick Jagger is set to appear in the art world thriller The Burnt Orange Heresy.

The Rolling Stones frontman will join Claes Bang and Elizabeth Debicki in the movie from director Giuseppe Capotondi.

Jagger has been cast in a supporting role Joseph Cassidy, an English art dealer and collector and patron of Jerome Debney, the reclusive J.D. Salinger of the art world.

Set in present-day Italy, The Burnt Orange Heresy follows art critic James Figueras (Bang) and American tourist Hollis (Debicki) as they travel to Cassidy’s lavish and opulent Lake Como estate. While there, Cassidy offers James a seductive deal: In exchange for a career-transformative introduction to Debney, he must steal a new masterpiece from the artist’s studio for Cassidy’s personal collection. As the couple spends time with the legendary Debney, they start to realize that nothing about the artist and their mission is what it seems.

Scott M. Smith has written the screenplay, adapting Charles Willeford's novel. David Zander of MJZ, William Horberg of Wonderful Films and David Lancaster of Rumble Films will produce the movie, which is set to begin production later this month in Italy. Executive producers are Aeysha Walsh of MJZ and Stephanie Wilcox of Rumble Films.

Jagger is repped by CAA.

HanWay Films are handling international sales, while the UTA Independent Film Group manages the U.S. sale.

I wish he wouldn't. Everyone raved about his performance on the Elysian Fields movie, but I thought he was crap in that as well. It was only lauded because it was marginally better than his embarrassing performance in Freejack and Ned Kelly. To be fair, I have enjoyed the movies he's produced, but I wish he wouldn't act. Useless actor.

When I saw the title I figured it was a movie about the current occupant of the Whitehouse.

I agree with Wick, MICK can't act. As much as I live MICK, I would rather see him use his energy on a Stones project. Now he is going to be tied up with that schedule which means less touring availability.  :'(

Doubtful. He does these kind of things in his downtime

There are no Stones touring plans until 2019.  They're pretty much semi retired as a touring act.

The only Stones activity it would conceivably affect would be studio time.

And they dont even have to be on the same continent as each other to do much of that.

Hopefully he has a small role that doesnt require too much time.

I think hes a pretty decent actor, actually.  When you read the comments by the people who worked on 'Performance' for example, they spoke very highly of how well he adapted for someone who had never acted before.

The main problem is that most people (ourselves included) find it hard to envisage him as being anything other than 'Mick Jagger - rock superstar'.

His fame and persona makes it harder to take him seriously doing anything else.

Well, that and his horrific attempt at an 'Oirish' accent in 'Ned Kelly'

Performance is the one film I don't recall seeing. I need a copy of that!

You're very welcome, Voo

And just to keep the rumour mill churning, I have a suspicion that Noor is
working as a director's assistant on this film, the same position she
held on another film earlier this year...

Great pics Rev.
MICK looks amazing on that motorcycle!

He also looks great with Luciana, they had their teeth whitened and facials or sure!

Noor has been infatuated with MICK so I bet you are right about her involvement with the movie.

Mick Jagger is Returning to Movies To Star in Art World Thriller The Burnt Orange Heresy

Mick Jagger, movie star? The 75-year-old lead singer of the Rolling Stones famously turned down an oppurtunity to appear in one of Johnny Depp's Pirates of the Caribbean films and hasn't had a major movie role since 2001's The Man From Elysian Fields, has a part in the upcoming The Burnt Orange Heresy. The art-world thriller will screen out of competition at the close of the Venice International Film Festival, which runs from the end of August through the September 7.

Jagger plays Cassidy (no word on if that's the character's first, last or only name), a "powerful art collector" with a "lavish and opulent Lake Como estate," per a synopsis on Cineuropa. Cassidy hires Americans James Figueras (Claes Bang) and Berenice Hollis (Elizabeth Debicki) to steal a painting from Jerome Debney (Donald Sutherland), "a kind of reclusive JD Salinger of the art world," whom Cassidy has been bankrolling. It's an "erotic neo-noir thriller," per ArtNet, so expect lots of smoking in bed after sex, spying on people while they shower, and perhaps a double entendre about museum-quality paintings and the female body: the longer you look, the more you want to touch...but don't! Directed by Giuseppe Capotondi, the film is based on the 1971 novel of the same name by Charles Willeford.

Jagger reportedly completed work on the project before this heart surgery in April. The minimally invasive procedure doesn't seem to have slowed the rocker down, as he proved with a high-energy dance studio video posted in May. No word yet on if we'll get to see any of his famous Moves in the movie, but we can hope.

When the film was first announced, Christopher Walken was slated to play the role of Jerome Debney. According to an article in The Hollywood Reporter at the time, the action was also set in 1970 Italy, though it seems that the filmmakers have since gone, as they say in the industry, in a different direction, changing the time period to the modern day. We'll take whatever version of Jagger we can get.

Ending his career as John Hurt.

Some of his picture deals I never even heard about.  See link, scroll down below the trailer:

Page doesn't mention how Kubrick wanted him as Lord Bullingdon in Barry Lyndon.

Best Role: oily pimp in Man From Elysian Fields.

Worst role: surprisingly, in Freejack, where he doesn't seem to understand acting.  Should have watched Sting in Dune.

Mick interview on the new movie from Reuters.

And a bit on the new album - guess what, its nowhere near finished.....

Fans will have to wait longer for the band’s much talked-about first album of new music since 2005.

“Don’t hold your breath!” Jagger said. “I’ve been writing a lot, and I’ve done a load of demos and the Stones have recorded some really nice things. But we haven’t finished the album yet, so I’ve got no date for that.”

Reuters article confirms that he's only got two scenes.  shame, since the trailer makes it look like he's the best thong in the picture.

The article calls him a "jeans-clad frontman."  When was the last time he wore jeans onstage?  On the flatbed truck in 1975?  Amazing what sticks in millennials' minds when they're too lazy to do research.

I never chimed in on this movie...

i'd name it the most underrated film of the year

in my favorite genre: neo-noir

a brilliant exposition on the depth of corruption in the art world and,
by extension, the world in general. Fraud and fake news everywhere.

Mick as the orchestrator, as the dispassionate puppet master.

A perfect role for him, executed flawlessly

The only mistake I think was to not use his everyday rock-star look.
That's his power look and it would've been appropriate for this character.
