Title: Gibson files for bankruptcy

If you like rock or blues then you like the sound of Gibson, even if you don't know it.

The guy who promised to teach me to play had a beat up old Les Paul. (It didn't work out, mainly because he seemed to fervently believe that the student's nudity was important to the learning process.) Sigh... I loved that guitar.

I wouldn't know. But I suppose if you're a billionaire you need to figure out something to do with your money. In his place I'd keep just about 4 million, give some away, then go ahead and split the rest among the kids (see which ones remain affectionate afterward). But I'm definitely not a high roller and I don't need someone to spend money on (or on me), as Gorda suggested. Saving a legendary guitar company from closing down is as good a way to spend your money as any, I guess, and certainly better than some.

I blame Guitar Hero...I hear about local guitar shops closing up all the time  because folks would rather buy guitar hero instead of a nice axe to wail on...AND...no lessons required...

Same thing happened with the accordion...you dont see those shops anymore, do you?!?

Are you sure it wasn't Weird Al Yankovic that killed the accordion market. After seeing his mastery on that instrument, there was no going back. The gamut had been crossed. No more.

Did someone say accordion?  Los Orignales de San Juan-"Nariz de 45" (Lyrics:  "I snorted to much blow, so I had to get a nose job . . .")  I swear to God that is a true translation of the beginning lyrics!  Ask VooDoo?

«After playing the accordion in "Baby Snakes", Frank [Zappa] comments that the most important thing about the instrument, is the way the "air smells, when it leaves the holes."»

This is a shame. There was a documentary about how the guitars are made, each one individually crafted and there is a lot of work that goes into every guitar. Maybe they didn't price them high enough? Or maybe they priced them too high? I have no idea but it costs a lot to make them so quality has its price.
