Hasn't written a good new song since he co-wrote "Veronica" with Costello. However...our lads haven't written a good new song since Bridges to Babylon.

I'm not knocking Macca too hard - I suspect he's confessing to the facts in his statement. Good on him.

I don't disagree. I saw Wings over America 1976 at Nassau Coliseum, and have enjoyed his live boots ever since. There's some great post-Wings concert clips on YouTube. But people have been born and married since Macca wrote a memorable song. As Caine from Kung Fu would say...Some men lose touch with their times, and some lose touch with their souls.
