I know Voodoo has a separate thread for all celebrity deaths. But this musical legend deserves his own. The 69 club strikes again. I know he's been sick off and on, pretty bad the last few years. But I was still hoping Gregg could make it back out on the road again. RIP, take the last ride.

Awful fucking news. I had hoped that he was well. Fucking awful news. The Allman Brothers had a sweet southern rock sound.
RIP Mr. Allman, Thank you for the music. http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/27/entertainment/gregg-allman-obituary/ |

And I'm bound to keep on ridin'. And I've got one more silver dollar, But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no, Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider. See ya later, man. |

At least he fought to stay alive and didn't commit suicide, like some others have.

Not a huge fan but I certainly know he was a talent and force to be reckoned with.

He was a huge talent. The Allmans and Southern Rock - originators of good stuff. Not much else has come out of the South of any value.
Gregg Marsalis Allman was chilling in Rush. Absolutely dead chilling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z56kLyoQO5w |

It's hard to imagine American rock without the Allman Brothers, all members included. They were like some rock outcrop - fabulous in native flora and fauna - that held the earth in place at its end of the landscape, and through its presence encouraged other things to grow. Good times. Good, good times. Decades.
What it must be like for the still-living gods under these sunset years. Gore Vidal once wrote of the sadness that fell on the world when the Christ ascended over Roman Europe, driving the panoply of old gods to earth and shadow. What would you do, Gregg, if you could do it all over again? "I'd make more goddamn music, I'll tell ya!" |
