I was never a Deadhead, I loved LSD, but they were not one of my favorites of the San Francisco Bands, although I liked Pigpen, great Blues Man who drank himself to death, no Acid for this man.

Pigpen was just 27 when he died....RIP

I like some Dead music, but am not a Deadhead...RIP Jerry Garcia.

Bit of a myth about Pigpen drinking himself to death.  The guy had congenial liver disease.  It didn't help, to be sure, but he didn't "drink himself to death" in a Leaving Las Vegas type of way.

If you have(do you mean), congenital liver disease? Then you wouldn't, or one shouldn't drink( alcoholic beverages) at all. So...would that not still be referred to as; drinking one's self to death?
Just a question, not a judgement.

I thought it was a pancreatic issue...not a liver thing...not that that makes it better or easier...just sayin...but I think I am recalling something else...I do know he wasn't into the psycedelics like the rest of the bus

Yes indeed PanAn, excellent diagnosis old bean. Could well have been. I would say if, it was indeed CONGENITAL, then it would more likely be a pancreatic issue. That is to say, that pancreatic congenital issues are just more common, liver(unless cancer related) issues tend to be in older life, or due to ingestion of well, many nefarious chemicals.

It was bilary cirrhosis, a rare autoimmune disease that had nothing to do with his drinking, which, again, didn't help matters much.  (Irony.)  Sometimes you don't find out you have a congential condition until it's too late. To wit: Pigpen.

I had a rare day alone yesterday and with both cars in the shop I got to stay home and listen to the fresh Cornell 77...twice with a few repeats of certain tracks

It sounds so different from my old crusty cassettes...I am hearing things I dont ever recall hearing before...For such the Holy Grail that it is considered...I am not sure folks even knew just how good this show really was...

Really wish I had my old cassette to do a nice comparison...but since I dont have a cassette player, I guess it doesn't really matter at this point

I,too, also, love Europe 72...

I fondly look back at the 100 or so shows I went to...the friends I made and shared those good times with and the adventures I came across...but I am glad that is all behind me now...

So funny that this thread pops up today...at work today I was able to listen to the entire
7/12/87 Dylan and the Dead show at Giant Stadium...it was my 2nd show that tour and second dead show ever....4th of July at Worcester was my first

I swear it gave me flashbacks because I know I was so happily tripping that day on the tiny "worlds" that were floating around that summer

My co-workers were all just wondering today WTF I was listening to because things were a bit long and strange today...
