Title: Edited Vinyl Copies of GHS
Post by Trey Krimsin on Mar 15th, 2017 at 9:40am
I don't know if I've mentioned anything on this before. Forgive me if I have.

I own two copies of Goats Head Soup on vinyl, both with different catalog numbers, both US issues. On Star Star, both records are edited. Where the line "I bet it keeps your pussy clean" is sung, the line "That's what I call obscene" is transposed over the actual line of verse. I'm curious if anyone else on the board has edited copies of that record. I'm also curious if this was on later issues of the record or the first issued copies were edited as well.

Having been raised near Buffalo, I have a vintage unedited Canadian copy - the lyrics are as rumored.

I got the Canadian edition in Toronto in the summer of 1974 to replace the US GHS that I trashed by playing it so much.  GHS was the first "current" Stones LP I got as a kid (I already had Hot Rocks and Ya-Yas), and thanks to Angie gotten the month it came out.  That early US copy was overdubbed - including the final line about the groupie snagging "John Wayne before he dies."

Off-topic, the next Stones record I got, More Hot Rocks, made me understand the Stones better, because I was able to connect the lush instrumentation on side two of GHS to the textures Brian Jones put into the "fazed cookies" that didn't make Hot Rocks.  That was Brian's legacy filtering into Mick's tastes.

I prefer the unedited edition, but I can see how this is a collector's item.

Nothing beats hearing MICK sing about a clean pussy, it's obscenely hot! Yeah! Love that!  :-* What a classic Stones line. I'm not offended and I don't like being censored, but back in the day, this was common practice. It still is actually.  :'(

Will check later, I have the original Mexican Issue (Vinyl), the first USA CD edition and the Japanese CD edition released in 2006 in the box “A Bigger Bang World Tour 2005-2006”

I love GHS
and I think that Star Star is the greatest album closer!!!

I play it in the car all the time...and when my Glimmer Twins are in the car I sing FIND-A-STAR and they sing along too...

haha I remember trying to explain to my young kids what the expression "you make a dead man cum"  is all about. That was a rough one. It can become a "teachable moment" if you want to delve into sex education a bit. Well kids, fucking a star represents......good luck with that! ;D

Everytime I replaced a worn out copy of above-mentioned vinylLP I copped another one of these censored copies. Very annoying, thankfully ending with the intro of CD
