It was interesting to see Mick getting obviously emotional about Stu's last gig with the band. It's a shame he and Keith couldn't be tossed to show up for the tribute (obviously health and other emergencies notwithstanding). These things have become so dominated by Keith, which is fine but I'd love hear more about Mick's recollection of the older shows.

What a picture, Bill, Elton John & Iggy!!?? Iggy is probably so out of it he's doesn't remember where he is, I know Elton John was after him to help his career in the 70's but David Bowie stepped in & took him on the Station To Station tour, Iggy was the kind of person who was in & out of hospitals all the time, he was sort of given up by everybody but it was Bowie who visited him in UCLA hospital, in fact it was his only visitor.

Didn't Bowie and Iggy move to Berlin around that time because heroin was so plentiful there?

Actually they were trying to kick Coke, Bowie was in it really bad in L.A. he knew nobody but bad people,  Bowie was never really interested in Heroin, he never liked drugs that slowed you down (I read about 8 Bio's of him, maybe more there were so many) but Iggy was into it, I don't think they knew Berlin was the smack capitol of Europe until they got there, Bowie was interested because of his early influence with Expressionist Art & painters that were around before pre-Nazi Germany & that period of time like the movie "Cabaret" was about, his Station To Station tour was black & white lighting on stage with flood lights, very stark, & the early silent films of Fritz Lang like "Metropolis" that the idea of Diamond Dog was influence by along with Orwell's 1984, from what I read Iggy came along with him because they were both going through & getting of drugs.

The book came out AFTER the expose...but before the film, I thought...it truley shocked Germany and I am sure it thrilled the Soviets

More information on header for 1/26/13?  Pic of Ronald, looks like Taylor, looks like Townshend, and looks like Clapton in 1973, Rainbiff Theater.  Thanks for any info.  I never been heard of this show/gig/dealie/thing.

Sirmoonie, the show is historic for many reasons and also it was released the same year as an official live album by Eric Clapton... "Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert"

The concert was organized by Pete Townshend and marked Eric Clapton's comeback after the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh. In the year after the Rainbow Concert, Clapton recovered from his heroin addiction and recorded 461 Ocean Boulevard. This concert is the first live performance where Clapton used his famous Stratocaster guitar "Blackie".

A remastered expanded edition of the album was released on January 13, 1995, the 22nd anniversary of the original concert.

It's an all star live show, check who played:

Ronnie Wood - guitar & vocals
Eric Clapton - lead guitar & vocals
Pete Townshend - guitar & vocals
Ric Grech - bass guitar

Hi Voodoo,

I respectfully disagree.
Left it's a black Gibson Les Paul Custom, right it's a Gibson Les Paul Standard Burst.
Regarding Mick's clothes, that was a shell pink suit that Mick wore on that 1970 European tour.
In the left pic he just had taken off the jacket as he always did after a few songs, but he wears the same clothes, including the blouse, as in the other pic.
BTW in 2011 I posted similiar pics which I shot in October 1970 during that tour in Essen.

Today's Header Dec.21/69, this was after the American Tour? Mick is dressed like he was at Hyde park, never heard of this gig.

They did three shows in December in London, one on December 14 at the Saville Theatre and two on December 21 at the Lyceum Ballroom; I have posted pictures and headers of both shows here at RO

BTW... no tape extant from the show at the Saville Theatre but as for the show at the Lyceum Ballroom there is a soundboard featuring JJF and parts of Carol and Satisfaction, apparently from the first show

Thanks for the MICK T header video! That is fvcking awesome! MICK looks more confident these days and it may be due to the recent Stones gigs, performaing for large venues compared to his club show gigs. Puts a different perspective on things. MICK T is in fine form!

I wish that I knew what I know now when I was younger.......Stones were not to play anywhere in NE that tour....so a buddy & I struck out on my '67 Fairlane Convertible with 8 Jensen Speakers & every Stones lp on 8 track for Buffalo.  I purchased tickets at Ticketron in the Natick Mall, at Sears & we were golden.  Hoofing Jack Daniels & Miller smalls, those 8 oz bottles & who knows what else the whole way.  Base camp was a Holiday Inn Amherst NY, we put drapes over the lights & played our acoustic gitars and harmonicas all night long.  Stopped in some diners in Buffalo.. Took a road trip to the El Mocambo to visit the hallowed ground day before the show....Was on the floor at the show, wound are way up to the stage, Jagger wore that Destroy shirt...So I could have seen GK in Toronto & LJ at the show......Queue up Ooh La La......

Had JUST checked into the hotel, and then the announcement comes that the show was cancelled!  

In fact...ha ha... this is funny, we had just purchased the laptop upon which I am typing this post!!  That's how old this thing is!

As I recall it was kinda overcast, and drizzly, like everyone's mood.

Drank half my cash and lost the other half in the casino and then, at 2am, found a place DEEP in Bally's that sold me what they claimed to be a "hot dog" -- one of those 7-11 type roller grillers that had sweated that frank down to a wrinkly, deep brown salted cased meat substance.  I ate it -- every drunken bite.

But I swear I still take antacid for that thing.

We made the best of that weekend despite the cancellation.
Saturday was our anti-Stones day. No mention of the Band allowed.
We walked the Boardwalk, bought cheap sunglasses (for hangovers), found an Irish pub, drank in the Casinos, went to see that funky
70's Soul Train Band on Saturday night. That was the night you left the pizza box outside my door.

And yes, Nankyson you and Mrs Nanky drove me to Philly on Sunday to catch my flight.
Forgot about the rock hitting the window though.

But everyone else bolted early on Sat. Pdog, Mary, SV, scope, glencar. Gone.

Sorry about the headers this week, I made a biz trip to Brazil but instead of São Paulo, this time we made the sessions in Guarujá and in addition to be really busy on working hours and celebrating all nights the hotel had no internet at rooms, only in the lobby and the place in which we had the meetings

Looking at today's header. I never knew what a resemblance Stu was to Elvis. Nobody seemed to mind the way he looked. :smilestu
